All-Star Superman Blu-Ray Review (Article) - 2/25/2011 8:56:08 AM

My two brothers and I are animators and my roommate is a huge Superman fan. We rented this the other night and sat down all excited to see this film. And we sat through this film bored to tears. The acting was stiff, the dialogue was bland, the story was all over the place, and the ending felt meaningless because there was nothing to care about. It had no heart.

Halfway through the film, I just wanted to pull it out of the DVD player and pop in Richard Donner's Superman instead or revisit the Justice League cartoons. All-Star Superman left me empty and annoyed.

7 Things George Lucas Should Have Learned From the Prequels (Article) - 1/5/2011 12:16:34 PM

I agree with this list. There's almost NOTHING redeemable about the prequel trilogy.

The "pirate" needed in the prequels SHOULD have been Obi-Wan Kenobi. There was a lot of potential for it and some banter between Obi-Wan and Qui-Gon would have made for a smoother ride.

The trade federation had the wrong voices. I got used to it, but when I first saw them in a teaser, I expected dark sinister voices of a group capable of scheming. Instead, I felt like I was watching the parents to the aliens in "Spaced Invaders."

Anakin Skywalker should have been a bitter kid. He's a slave. George really should have spent time overseas and in some darker neighbourhoods to see what kids in a similar situation would be like. Instead, we got this docile character for the first film that was annoying. I have nothing against the actor that played him. I saw an image of him angrily pinning down Greedo and was like "THIS is what we needed. More of this."

Midi-Chlorians ruined the religious side of the force. It turned Star Wars into Star Trek and lost the entire religious audience that once would actually QUOTE Star Wars from the pulpit.

I hope they don't do an episode 7-9. 1-3 killed much of my love for Star Wars in general and left me frustrated.

DVD Shopping Bag: Star Wars on Blu-ray (Article) - 9/17/2010 12:30:25 PM

I still have my VCR because of "Star Wars to Jedi: The Making of a Saga." I'd love to see this included on the Blu-Ray set. (Tiny Toons: How I Spent My Vacation is another reason I still have the VCR...).

As I thought about the Blu-Rays I tried to think of some way to make the prequels even remotely worthwhile. Only thing I could think of was doing reshoots. In The Phantom Menace, for example, add some banter between Obi-Wan and Qui-Gon.

"Not a very talkative chap, is he?" in regards to Darth Maul.

"Don't you think it's a little unfair two versus one?"

Darth Maul lights the second half of his sabre.

"Nevermind."

I dunno, I saw the trailer for this in front of "Kung Fu Panda" and just wasn't sold on it. The trailer was really dull. Everyone in the theater seemed confused and uninterested. "There's a new Star Wars movie?" As we watched the trailer, I didn't see any shots at all that captivated me or impressed me enough to want to see it. It seemed to be the same slow pacing, same "noble but boring" dialogue, and same... just crap... from the prequel trilogy. Now, I do love the original trilogy and did enjoy the Clone Wars cartoon but the prequel films sort of killed the rest for me. I guess I grew out of Star Wars or these new Star Wars projects are just failing to captivate me. They come across as just mediocre fan films with a higher budget. Ah well....

With the military involvement from the first film, it'd be nice to see Hound come into play. I did like the human/autobot alliance in the original cartoon and it'd be nice to see that continue in these films. Based on the previous posts, I'm cool with holding off from having the dinobots for this next outing. The cartoon Grimlok is a classic and should perhaps remain such. And as to Arcee, if she shows up, fine, but these movies technically don't really need her. Just having a female robot for the sake of having a female robot is redundant.

TRANSFORMERS 2 Has a New Title & Set Details (Article) - 6/7/2008 12:50:54 PM

I'm a little surprised to see Megan Fox reprising her role. Wasn't expecting that, actually. Might be a cameo.

So, here's what I've pieced together so far:

1) There has been talk of the Constructicons and Devastator.
2) The writers, early on, wanted to bring in the Dinobots but were debating how to approach it (one option was monster trucks or those big dino trucks we see at rallys).
3) Consideration was made to bring in Arcee as Megan Fox's character's scooter.
4) They're upping the number of transformers on either side to around 10.
5. Optimus Prime is rumored to change his vehicle form (I'm thinking possible fire truck).

I did enjoy Michael Bay's first Transformers movie and we'll see how it goes for this next romp.

I know some of you are anxious for Galvatron but I'd prefer not to see him brought into play. I don't think it's neccessary to follow the same route as the cartoon. If they bring back Megatron, cool, but Starscream as the Decepticon leader for this next jaunt works for me.

Air Force Enlisted into TRANSFORMERS 2 (Article) - 4/26/2008 6:52:50 PM

As far as interviews I have read, the writers were looking at ways to bring in the Dinobots and there were rumblings about Devastator. Who knows what they'll have the airforce do in this next film, but even if all it is is military taking on Starscream (and any other Decepticon jets), I'm cool with that.

Space Channel started airing the remastered versions of Robotech in January 2008 and my brother and I basked in it each afternoon. (I think I was about 12 years old when it first aired on TV). Lisa Hayes, Rick Hunter, Roy Fokker, Claudia, Max, Miria, Kyron, Captain Glovell... great characters that we cherish. Fun times. Then we got to Robotech:Masters (aka: Southern Cross). Boring. We flaked out of watching two episodes and Space Channel seems to have now moved it to another time slot. (We're now in the process of ordering the Remastered version of Robotech on DvD).
