Disney's developing PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN movie has just taken on a producer: Jerry Bruckheimer.
Bruckheimer's arrival would seem to suggest higher visibility and even more money in the budget for the film, which had been part of the Mouse House plans to make use of properties they own rather than purchasing or developing others. PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN is, of course, based on the Disney amusement park attractions, and the film to come is expected to take the same comic view.
Disney is hoping to launch production of the film in 2002 on location in the Caribbean.
Jay Wolpert wrote the film's script. No director has, as yet, been attached.
CARIBBEAN is the second Disney film project based on one of their attractions. The coming live-action/animatronic COUNTRY BEARS movie is based on the Country Bear Jamboree musical show. A sequel for BEARS is already in the works.
