While attending the press junket for National Treasure: Book of Secrets, Frosty over at Collider had a chance to discuss the future of producer Jerry Bruckheimer. The next big film is PRINCE OF PERSIA: SANDS OF TIME and Bruckheimer had some things to say about the project such as; his thoughts on grabbing Mike Newell (Goblet of Fire) as director, when shooting will hopefully begin and whether the WGA strike will get in the way of production.

Here's a sample of the interview:

Jerry Bruckheimer: We hired a very interesting director – Mike Newell – who did one of the Harry Potter’s and also did Donnie Brasco and he’s a very inventive, ingenious director and I think he’s going to bring something really special to it. We’re just starting to… we have a screenplay, we’re just starting to develop the look of it. It’ll be unique and fresh.

Q: Is this one of these properties that you envision the possibility of a franchise out of and is this going to be a really big film the way a National Treasure is?

Jerry Bruckheimer: Yes. It’s a big production and if they work it’s another character that you can take on other adventures.

Q: Do you have any casting on it?

Jerry Bruckheimer: Not yet.

Q: Can you do for video games what you did for theme park rides?

Jerry Bruckheimer: I don’t know. We’ll see.

As an avid gamer, the Prince of Persia trilogy released on PS2, (and other consoles), were on of my faves. Wow! Jerry Bruckheimer really wants to bring the P.O.P. onto the big screen! Somehow, I kept thinking if P.O.P. was to be brought to the big screen, Sam Raimi would do it, utilizing those, cartoony CGI special effects, as seen in all three Spider-man movies, respectively. I say this because of lot of "wall-running", somersaults in the air, and slo-mo sequences. POP: Sands of Time will be interesting to see, though.

Prince of Persia will be a very entertaining big summer blockbuster under Bruckheimer production. The video game is great and the story can be beautifully adapted to film. I hope Bruckheimer does work his magic and finally is able to deliver an excellent video game movie.
Now if only someone, Bruckheimer I'm talking to you!, would adapt the God of War franchise. That game on film would work so damn well it's a shame no one has tried to yet. The game is practically a movie. Do it already, I want to see KRatos on film.

Not a gamer so it would've been nice to have a small recap of what the game is about. Like I said before I'm all for adaptations of video games. I've actually liked quite a few of them despite the thrashing theyn receive from most.

Can't friggin wait for this.

I have enjoyed the a lot of the video game movies that have come out. Minus all that shit Dr. Boll has to screw up. Silent Hill is still my favorite adaptation yet. But Silent Hill has a small loyal fanbase and its needs to be rated R.

If they do this at a Hard PG-13 and do it well this could be the video game movie that makes people realize how to do it right.

I don t know, Of course it will be something, big production, big expectation, but the game univers and the movie are very different. If you just want the story to adapt that s kind of middle east hero, it s thousand of good script in books, i think about Arabian night, with Aladin and so one, why take the story from a game ? I beleive it s a marketing point of view, they now all gambler will go to see the movies...
