BSG Season 4 Likely Split 2008-2009

While denying a rumor about President Laura Roslin's(actress Mary McDonnell) character leaving the show halfway through Season 4, executive producer Ronald Moore and his wife fueled more speculation that the rumored split between the first half and second half of the next season would be a year apart. This has been speculated for a few weeks now but it seems clear this is not the choice of BSG creators or the Sci-Fi network but due to the pending WGA strike.

Writers are expected to walk out on November 1st and according to Moore, he's only progressed through Episode 13 at this time leaving doubts on whether he will even get the next six episodes completed by the end of the month.

Here's the details from Syfy Portal:

"I just told Ron what this spoiler was, and he said the Laura spoiler is 'not true,'" said Terry Moore, wife of the executive producer, who is a regular poster on the SciFi Channel message boards. "He also said that he hasn't even told the studio what the end of the show is."

In the same conversation through his wife, Moore also revealed that he has only just recently completed Episode 13 of the last season, which means he still has six episodes to write before writers walk out on Nov. 1 as part of an imminent writers strike. It's unclear how Moore is covered under WGA rules in case of a strike, and if his position as an executive producer affects his ability to continue writing even during a walkout.

Note: The Mary McDonnell leaving rumor began after the actress told some college students that she only had 3 more shows to film leading people to wonder if she was taking an early exit. Not so, says Moore.

True or not, this long wait is just stupid. It's been so long since that great Season 3 Finale that my interest is fading bigtime. I knew when I saw 'Continued in 2008' that something was off. I understand people doing other projects but this is ridiculous. I tell ya, Razer and Season 4 better be f-in brilliant to justify this wait.

Well this sucks, but sounds like it's something they can't control. It'll be worth the wait though, I mean really, you're not going to watch it? You'll be watching, I guarantee it. And this isn't the only show with a long wait, The Shield is always like 9 months, but it's ratings are always pretty good. That's just what happens when these shorter season shows air, I'd rather wait and have a quality program then watch Bionic crap Woman every week, or StarGarbageGate reruns.

Something strange going on with this francise. Even the season 3 DVD is deleyed in the US but released in the UK.
rgtchtiger 10/20/2007 9:35:54 AM
Has Season 3 even been given a release date for the US yet? I spent most of it getting caught up on the previous seasons so I didn't watch Season 3 at all, save the finale. I really want to get caught up on the show in time for Season 4, but as a last resort I suppose I'll hit iTunes to get caught up.

The DVD is rumoured to come out in April, which I think is dumb. It should come out right after Christmas so people can by it. So my guess is that season 3 will not start until April or May anyways.

I guess if this is related to the writer's strike there isn't much that can be done, but Man! First Lost and now this? Why can't American Idol and Pick A Suitcase get stuck with a limited run and a year between seasons?

LONG LIVE BSG! Yeah the wait sucks (only because this show is so goddamn brilliant) but it will be worth it. If you wanna blame someone blame the writers, who need to buy another house, or beamer. I feel sorry for them and I'm glad that because making 6 figures isn't enough they're going on strike and making me have to wait longer for BSG.
jetpackjesus 10/20/2007 1:56:20 PM
Just call them season 4 and season 5. The wait has always been this long between seasons anyway. They could sell more DVD's this way too. If I were SciFi, that's what I would do. I sure hope this strike doesn't happen. It's going to result in a lot of crap movies being pushed out and create issues in television like this.

Splitting the season like that is just stupid. If they want two seasons then MAKE two seasons. Dont make us wait 2 and a half years to see a total of 18-22 episodes.
Kerrith 10/20/2007 7:06:42 PM
I think it sucks to have to wait too but I don't want to b lame the writers. I get the impression that the average WGA member does not make six figures or drive a beemer. Maybe its the socialist in me, but I will always be more sympathetic to organized labor than the corporations they work for.
