VARIETY reports that Universal will include both the most recently-released and original versions of E.T. THE EXTRA-TERRESTRIAL on the value-priced "limited collectors edition," due October 22.

Previously, the 1982 theatrical release was slated only in the "ultimate collector's gift set." The most recent theatrical release had extensive, if minor, digital rework incorporated, such as the removal of shotguns from the hands of law-enforcement characters in one crucial scene. The guns were replaced with walkie-talkies.

Universal Studios Home Video president Craig Kornblau is quoted as stating, "This is Steven's early holiday gift to the film's millions of fans."
