After years of denying the rightful Emmys for quality in television drama to BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER, it seems this time around the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences is making things hard for Joss Whedon and company even before the Emmy votes are cast.
How so?
On the ballots sent out to Academy members, BUFFY's stunning musical episode "Once More With Feeling" was not listed in the best writing category, even though it was in contention with Joss Whedon's script.
Said a spokesperson for the Academy to TV GUIDE, "We sent out a notification to the voters, which allowed them to cast their vote [for 'Once More with Feeling'] almost immediately. It was basically a supplement to the ballot. The situation was rectified ASAP, and there were no repercussions from it."
Yeah, we'll see. According to the magazine, observers of the Academy believe this oversight could mean Whedon won't get the nod many otherwise thing he's earned.
