It looks like Halo 4 could be coming, just not from its original developer Bungie Studios. The Official Xbox Magazine has passed along a rumor that Gearbox Software could be taking over the development aspect of future titles with the popular gaming franchise. This would fit with hints from Gearbox's leader Randy Pitchford in which he suggested that something big was happening soon for them last February and mentioned that he would be directing it.
According to the rumor, Halo 4 would be the first major title for the next Xbox console sometime in the near future. Gearbox is no stranger to first-person-shooters, having led their own Brothers in Arms title (with a sequel coming) and overseeing the Half-Life expansions for the console. They're also working on a FPS Alien title with Sega.
When confirmations are made and the contract is signed, we'll pass it along.
I think the bigger news here is the "ALIENS" FPS being developed. AvP was a crazy great series, so I would hope this title would be even better, especially if it's for the home console.
The ALIENS game is ALIENS COLONIAL MARINES. And HALO 3 was good but coul have been alot better I hope bungie still handles the next installment though.
I just checked out the screenshots for that Aliens FPS. It looks fantastic! You just know they're going to include that "Game over, man! Game over!" line somehow...<br />
Maybe this is the closest we get to a true Aliens sequel...but hey, I'll take it.
Hanso, anybody that said Halo 3 wasn't that good is mistaken, or they're just hating on Halo because it's fashionable to hate on things that are successful.
It's exactly what it was supposed to be a great wrap up to a great trilogy. As a late comer to the Halo party I didn't used to be a big FPS fan in general, I was initially skeptical, I went in with no expectations, I jumped in with both feet and played all 3 games back to back, bought all of the books, I then got hooked on all of McFarlane's toys. As somebody who is more into single player/story driven experiences rather than online frag-fests, I'm still playing Halo 3 almost a year after buying it, and I'll probably be playing it off and on a year from now. It won widespread critical acclaim and remains one of the top ranked online games on XBOX Live. The hype was well deserved on this one. Aside from Bioshock or Half Life 2, I can't think of a better FPS. Obviously this is subjective, and while it may not be for everyone, it's still a great game.
Bungie is apparently at work at a couple of Halo related projects, one being Halo Chronicles with Peter Jackson but apparently if Gearbox is taking the reins of the next full fledged sequel, the unnamed title will likely be some sort of spin-off. Here's hoping it's about the remaining Spartans on Onyx from Eric Nylund's novel "Ghosts of Onyx". It was supposed to be announced at E3 but Microsoft pulled the announcement.
The next XBox is still 5 years away. Microsoft is planning a 10 year life cycle for this generation, but given the way the prices tend to inflate each generation you might as well start saving anyway.
You guys are right though the new Aliens game looks sick. There was an Aliens: Colonial Marines game planned and in development a few years ago, but it got canceled and Gearbox took over the license. The new game is apparently completely re imagined and has no connection to the canceled game of the same name other than the name itself. Hopefully it'll be better than the last few films.
HALO 4!? I dunno..I think that the Halo series was just about closed up. Yeah we know that Master Chief is alive and kicking but I really don't know what else they can do with the series. A movie perhaps..but a game is pushing it.
Aliens: Colonial Marines is going to be beyond amazing. I was so pissed when they first cancelled it for PS2, but now I'm thrilled. This game is going to blow the socks off of everything. The multiplayer looks intense as well as the single player. The Alien A.I sound on point with how the Aliens should act. Hopefully someone looks at this game when it comes out and thinks to themselves: "what a good idea, lets put it on the big screen". Screw Alien Ressurection, make another movie way before it. The marines make the film!
Honestly.. there are so many HALO fans, and that game is so fun, that they can make 10 more Halo games and they will just be as successful. I will Kill ANYBODY at HALO 3! haha. SN is "GLoriusVctorius" baby! (only way i could make it fit)
