In an interview with GameSpot, various staff members at Bungie have gone on the record with some harsh criticism of
Halo 2.
"We had about four to five weeks to polish Halo at the end, ... [but] we had none of that for Halo 2," engineer Chris Butcher told the magazine. "We miscalculated. We screwed up. We came down to the wire, and we just lost all of that. So Halo 2 is far less than it could and should be in many ways because of that. It kills me to think of it."
He added that they were being much more careful with
Halo 3, "I know Halo 3 is going to be so much better."
Another staffer from Bungie attributed Halo 2 to driving off a cliff.
KJ's Take: Halo 2 was awful compared to Halo, and simply average when compared to other FPS games. I own both and enjoyed both, but there was a clear drop off in quality. Thus far Bungie seems to be doing everything right with regards to Halo 3, but lighting rarely strikes twice. Here's hoping.
