What They Say

The Review!
Siren Entertainment has started to produce some ADV licensed anime for Australians (Under its Madman Label), and has released the Burn Up W OVA series on DVD.
The DVD packaging is similar to the US packaging, except there is no region or signal encoding information, so I have to assume it is either Region 4 PAL or No Region PAL. The lack of detail may be irrelevant to most viewers, but its omission could cause problems for overseas purchases.

Unfortunately, the Australian version has some major flaws compared to the American release. The menus are hard to read and are not well laid out. Even more distressing is the lack of Japanese soundtrack and subtitling (something that was present on the American release). Subbed titles are almost impossible to get from Australian suppliers, so the omission was not unexpected, just disappointing. And some of the American Voice cast screech not speak, so the original voice track would be quite welcomed.

However, the release does have one thing going for it : price. It is almost half the cost of an Imported copy of the DVD would cost in local stores.

The actual episodes do look clean and sharp on the screen, there seems to be
no problems with the conversion to PAL.

For Australian Otaku, it is well worth it, both in cost and to help Siren produce more Anime DVD in OZ. This appears to be their first DVD conversion, and signs are they are learning quickly (Samurai X - Trust is far superior to this DVD in menus and voice tracks). For all others, don't bother. Get the ADV release (unless you too use PAL then it may be worthwhile).
