A year ago, we passed along news that Johnny Depp was attached and ready to go for the adaptation of the 60's supernatural television series Dark Shadows. The actor, a big fan of the series which racked up 1,225 episodes, was eager to star in the project but no other news has filtered down the wires on who's leading and when production begins. Until now. IESB.net is reporting that Depp's friend and long-time teammate Tim Burton is set to lead the direction of the film with screenwriter John August (Charlie and the Chocolate Factory) also on board to pen it.
Johnny Depp's Infinitum-Nihil and GK Films are producing and Depp has had interest in playing Barnabas Collins, the vampire patriarch of the series, but that hasn't been confirmed.
Over 1,225 episodes, "Dark Shadows" was a highly atmospheric, spooky soap that featured gothic horror staples like vampires, monsters, witches, werewolves, ghosts and zombies.

Great f@#$ing choice to have Burton direct this. I think he'll turn out a great product.
