Burton Takes on MALEFICENT

Disney and Tim Burton are friends.

Apparently, Walt Disney Studios likes what they see from Tim Burton's upcoming 3D feature of Alice in Wonderland. Because AICN is reporting that Burton may move onward to another film based on a Disney character after. Despite the team effort of Burton and his favorite star, Johnny Depp, for an adaptation of "Dark Shadows," the website reports that the director is set to take on the villainous point of view of Maleficent, based from Disney's 1959 adaptation of the fairy tale Sleeping Beauty.

Both Burton and Depp have numerous projects lined up for Disney but it's looking like Tim will next take on a feature role based around the Sleeping Beauty character while Depp will once again take on the role of "Captain" Jack Sparrow before either one thinks about "Dark Shadows."

Alice in Wonderland will hit theaters March 5, 2010.

Pirates of the Caribbean: On Strange Tides will hit theaters May 20, 2011.

StarlightGuard- I was actually thinking the same thing when I read this.

With Depp going for Jack SParrow again will he not take on the role of Ozzy in the bio pick abou the famous rock star? I keep hearing rumors that Depp was one of the few actors that the osbournes wanted to portray the rock star. He could do a great job of it to.and if he does take the Ozzy role that would mean more of a delay time for other burtton disney films.

As far as dark shadows go I have a bad feeling that this will be next thanks to the whole twilight madness. For those that don't know Dark Shadows is a old Tv show about vampires. Think of it as a watered down version of twilight.

Seriously!  Do we really need a bio-pic based on a still living rock star like Ozzy?  I mean, I like Ozzy as much as the next guy, but I don't need to see a bio-pic about his life.

And I guess Lone Ranger is out the window, too?  Hadn't heard about an Ozzy biopic w/ Depp, btu I tend to doubt he'd do it.  I think it would come across too close to Jack Sparrow. Besides, as redhairs pointed out, Ozzy's still around. Don't know that we need a biopic of a rock star that is still alive (more or less) & kicking (more or less).  In any case, Maleficent is pretty cool.  I love anything dragon, so I guess I'd be down.  I just hope it looks a little less Burton-ish.  I'm getting tired of every movie he does looking like Beetle Juice, Batman, Edward Scissorhands, Batman Returns, Sleepy Hollow, Big Fish, Charlie & the Chocolate Factory, Corpse Bride, Sweeny Todd and Alice. Say what you will about Planet of the Apes (actually, I liked it). At least it looked different than every other movie he's done.

There has been many, many stories about secondary characters getting their own aside stories before Wicked, so the comparisons are moot.  For instance:  The two guys from Hamlet who I cannot for the life of me spell Rosenthein and something I won't attempt.  This ought to be good - Maleficient is bad ass and when I was little that was the sole thing I liked about Sleeping Beauty.  Of course, mostly because I was a young boy.

I used to love Burton movies as they were different! Sadly he is coming off as a 1 trick pony these days, O.k I get it, it's quirky, it's a bit twisted,it's dark yet colorful, it's got johnny Depp in it, let's try something new shall we Tim? It's all a bit of All style No substance now.

MrJawbreakingEquilibrium 1/20/2010 12:38:47 PM

What else do you want him to do?  A lot of directors use the same style over and over again with the same actors.  It's just with Burton his style is stands out way more than others.

Wait for Ozzy to die. he is the f*cking prince of darkness!

Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead was awesome!  Thanks for reminding me Jaws.  I'm gonna have to pop that in the old DVD player.  Gary Oldman is the greatest actor of all time.
