Butler Out of ESCAPE FROM NEW YORK

Gerard Butler won't be wearing any Snake Plissken duds after all. Variety also confirms that Wiseman is no longer attached to direct this remake for New Line, something which has been rumored for sometime. The trade reports that Butler has left the project due to "creative differences". Jonathan Mostow (Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines) is now in charge of rewriting the treatment along with an option to direct.

the best news of the day.....! My point, we all know that creative differences, means money problems, so i beleive after the huge succes of 300 he,butler, won t sign a contract with the same terms ! same for Wiseman, after die hard 4 he s name cost more than during the underworld 2 time ! for Mostow, i don t know can be very good, U-571 was great, but all will depends of the cast....i, myself can t see anyone walk on kurt russel step, they should recast him ! look at him in grindhouse, he can easy do snake plisken one more time !

I like Butler but NOT AS SNAKE! There is only 1 true Snake and that is Kurt Russell!

Great News! But again don't get me wrong I like Butler but just not in this role!

Welcome to development hell. I thought Butler would have played a good Snake Plisken, but it wouldn't hurt my feelings if this classic didn't get remade.

Kurt looked great in Death Proof. He could easily pull out another Snake.
Or a story about him younger ( Getting a different actor to play a "young snake") Then after he's imprissoned go forward and You find ol Kurt older - but still Snaked out and doing just fine on his own doing his thing. To remake this movie would be a sham. Nothing beats the Team of Kurt and Carpenter.

I'm sorry to see both of these guys off the project. I really didn't want a remake of this classic either, but if you're going to do it you could do a whole lot worse than these two. Not to mention that I was curious to see Wiseman's vision of the film.

This kind of sucks, because the only reason I had any hope for this movie was that someone like Butler would be playing Plissken and I`d give Wiseman a chance. I`ve enjoyed every movie he has directed so far. U-571 was a good movie although T3 wasn`t great which might be due to the writing, so I`d give Mostow a chance too, but to me this movie still doesn`t need to be made unless they are going to use Kurt Russel. He has still got it.

I think Butler was smart to turn this down.

Remakes are usually PC or dumbed down versions of the originals, and getting associated with a PC or dumbed down Escape From New York would probably have screwed up his careers just when it was really taking off. I like Butler and I don't think he need ton try to be the next anybody. He has his own kind of cool and it aint the same as Russel's.

And does anyone really want a Plissken who isn't Kurt Russel when Kurt Russel's still got game. I agree with idea of screw the remake, make a sequel, with Kurt and Carpenter.
