Director Alex Proyas (Dark City, I,Robot) and Summit Entertainment have landed Nic Cage to lead their thriller KNOWING, reports Variety. The story concept was created by Escape Artists producers Todd Black, Jason Blumenthal & Steve Tisch partnering up with novelist Ryne Pearson, who penned the first draft. Proyas and Stuart Hazeldine wrote the final draft for the project. The Escape Artists crew are producing while Aaron Kaplan and Sean Perrone are co-producers, and Norm Golightly and David Bloomfield are exec producers. Production begins in Australia on March 17.

Plot Concept: Cage will play a teacher who examines the contents of a time capsule unearthed at his son's elementary school. Startling predictions in the time capsule that have already come true lead him to believe the world is going to end at the close of the week and that he and his son are somehow involved in the destruction.

so far, i am quiet happy with alex Proyas, he know how to produce good movie, and I robot show very well that is ok with big production. With cage in must be something......Guys, one question ! Well, I`m not an expert at all things Elton John or Nic Cage, I`d say Elton has more dough. I like Alex Proyas. He is a pretty good director. Dark City is such a good movie. I, Robot was pretty good too. It will be interesting to see how this turns out. It has to be better than NEXT. Jessica Biel was the only thing preventing me from leaving the theater.

Why does Cage keep getting work? If he's not playing a disfunctional character he's just not that good. And outside of NT he hasn't had a hit in ages. And that was a hit in spite of him not because of him as well as GR.

Wasn't Richard Kelly involved with this project in the past? I thought he had written the screenplay adaptation with the intention of directing it himself. That was a couple years ago, so I suppose he moved on to other projects. I have always liked Cage, but I suppose you could say he sold out after winning his Oscar. He had a string of action movies that were a mixed bag (Face/Off still being the best) and other films that just looked awful (i.e. Family Man). I always thought Sean Penn's comment about Cage being more of a performer than an actor was silly since the same could be said about most actors in Hollywood nowadays. Either way, I think this film sounds promising and would definitely be interested in checking it out.

Proyas directed The Crow, and for that I will forever be indebted.
