Cage Sets up FILES With Sci-Fi

Nicolas Cage has set up THE DRESDEN FILES, based on Jim Butcher's bestselling novels, with the Sci-Fi Channel. The two-hour pilot for the series will be written by Hans Beimler and Robert Wolfe.

The story centers on Harry Dresden, a wizard who makes his living as a Chicago-based private eye. Using his extraordinary abilities to see the paranormal forces behind crimes, Dresden helps the police solve their more baffling cases.

Nicolas Cage, Hans Beimler, Robert Wolfe, Norm Golightly and Morgan Gendel will executive produce.

Sci Fi's Mark Stern said, "It's very much a detective procedural with a speculative sci-fi spin." He went on to note, "What the script did so well was to make the fantasy elements integral to (rather than superimposed on) the plot."

Here's the recipe for this show...

Mix equal parts X-Files, Kolchak: The Night Stalker, CSI, and Harry Potter.

Stir well, and heat at 325 degrees for 42 minutes.

Add commercials and serve until the Sci-Fi channels cancels it like a bad debt.

Please, please, please... DO NOT ruin these books for me - I love the Dresden Files by Jim Butcher, and I really don't want to lose them. I am terribly afraid that by trying to turn them into a potentially half baked tv show, the author will stop writing them and I will be left without my entertainment.

Anyone remember "The Magician" with Bill Bixby in the mid 70's? He was a Las Vegas magician who used his stage magic skills to solve crimes. He used to drive around in a "boss" white Corvette Stingray. They should do an updated Joss Whedon-type upgrade of this show the same way they did Battlestar Galactica (spider987 notwithstanding).

__________

If it's made by SFC, you can count on them molesting the material. Look what they did to EARTHSEA AND BSG. My condolences in advance.
