While at a press junket for NATIONAL TREASURE: BOOK OF SECRETS, reporter Heather Newgen asked actor Nic Cage about the chance of him doing a Ghost Rider 2 or a National Treasure 3. The actor responded that he's definitely up for both possibilities. While the actor insists he's up for a sequel to the flaming comic hero, it's far more likely there will be a third installment of his Ben Gates character long before any return of the GR. Cage expanded on what he wants from a third film.

"With 'National Treasure,' I believe that it should become more and more 'International Treasure,' Cage told us. "I was very happy to see that we went to London, England and Paris, France, but I'd like to see the movie go wider still. I'd like to go into Africa, Egypt, Asia, and keep going. My hope is that Ben is recruited and he gets a dossier from these other countries about their history, and has to download it and learn it, and then try to go on these hunts on their behalf. That would be a lot of fun for me."

NATIONAL TREASURE: BOOK OF SECRETS hits theaters December 21, 2007.

I believe this is one of those situations, where you get a a sequel that no one has asked for; the first one was no particularly great, it was forgetable. GR was just bad period. All the snazzy effects couldn't save that movie from his absurd performance(Sam Elliot should get his own GR prequel). I'm sure both films will eventually see sequels, which is saddening--much like most of his films since 2000.

I just re-watched GR. They should have stuck with the young actors in the beginning and leave it with that. Nick is just too old to do this anymore.

I enjoyed National Treasure and looking foward to part 2. I think it might end up with the biggest Box Office this holiday season. If it turns out that's a good film then they should go for a third. Making the movie "international treasure" like Cage says will prolong the series and give them more room to play in. Cage is getting old but if Ford can still be Indiana Jones then I'm sure Cage can play this Gates character a few more times :) But please no more Ghost Rider.

i felt that the first 'treasure' was WAY better than the first 'pirates.' the action was cooler, story was more interesting, and it was funny when it wanted to be. lets hope the 2nd installment is more comprehensible than that of pirates.....

Yeah, what hanso said. Except I think they could do a GR sequel. I think the first one was ok. Not bad, but not great. The f/x were dead on. I think they have something they could build on for a sequel. Or if Cage isn't up for it for a while, maybe they could pull a Hulk - reboot it with a whole new crew and basically ignore the first movie.

the first NT was the ONLY movie in my entire life that I had to stop because it was so boring. I've seen so many movies yet this one, could not finish it for the life of me...the fact that they do a second one probably means it will be better so I might try again once it's on DVD.

Haven't see the GR movie yet but from what I hear, it's not good. If they do a second one, maybe they will do better then the first one.

It seems now that many #2 movies now are considered when the first one wasn't that good, it's interesting.

Nic cage use to be one of my favorite actors but ever since The Wicker Man and Ghost Rider, It seems he's not choosing his roles properly, National Treasure was good but we dont really need a modern version of Indiana Jones, it's been done.

N.T. was just a so-so movie. I couldn't believe that they actually approved a second. He seems to have been miscast for this role. Cage to me never has never fit the hero role unless he's got a real quirk, which seems to be what brings his best out.I just can't see this one matching the first one's b.o., which surprised me it did as well as it did after seeing it. Then again I've been known to be wrong before.
