I think Cameron has earned the benefit of the doubt for taking over a decade off before finally moving on his follow-up to Titanic. I'm sure he needed two to three years off just to recover from what was clearly a grueling production. I cannot wait to see what the teaser trailer will be like for the film, but since it's now coming Christmas 2009 I suppose we can't expect anything until at least the end of the year. I also nominate The Abyss as his most underrated and underappreciated film and one of the best sci-fi films EVER, albeit prior to Avatar's release.

Agreed, Cameron is the money. What was the budget on this would-be masterpiece? Do i recall hearing it was in the realm of $250 mil?! He better have some damn good tricks and story up his ass for this one! That's a lot of loot. What's the rating? anyone know yet?

Yes, the plot sounds recycled but because its Cameron I will see it. He has yet to let me down on a movie except the Abyss which I realize a lot of you like but I thought it was a weak story. It was just okay. He took a lot of time off between movies but the guy made what, a billion dollars that keeps rolling in so why not take some time off. Look at all the time off George Lucas took after Return came out. He made a shit load of money and took off to do other things because he could afford to. Cameron wasn't any different and I say good for him. I'll be there opening weekend for this movie.

Interesting release date, he's probably thinking best picture. It won't be 2001 because there is action but this could be a phenomenal piece of sci-fi. I would love to see Sigourney get a much deserved Oscar for her genre work. She has earned it with this the Alien flicks, ghostbusters and galaxy quest.
