A CANDYMAN Remake in The Works?

Add Candyman to the growing list of horror films slated for a remake. Just a few days after it was learned Hollywood was remaking the controversial 1980's Mother's Day, Ryan Rotten has received word that Sony Pictures is likewise planning out a remake of their Candyman property. The first film hit theaters in 1992 and spawned two sequels, the story based on Clive Barker's short story "The Forbidden".

While Ryan cautions that Sony is merely mulling the remake idea over at the second with no director or writer yet attached, there have been whispers of replacing the hook-handed villain, previously played by Tony Todd, with a Caucasian character. That's just one idea for a revision, with all of this still being in "early talks".

When we learn more, we'll pass it along to you.

Tony Todd is creepy in any movie he is in. That`s one scary brother. I'm with Hanso, if they are going to change his ethnicity , it should be something besides Caucasian or Black. Make him like Indian or something. Not too many scary Indians out there in the flicks. The closest they got was that dude in Temple of Doom. Kali Ma!!!

The only way I'd go for this remake is if they made him a short, one-eyed singing and dancing black jew. Then, I'd be first in line. Otherwise, leave it alone.

a Candyman remake? well considering that I still havent gotten the final image of Virginia Madsen out of my head (where they make her look like a bald burnt crispy) all the Candyman sequels are abysmal... and I'm left thinking WHY was THIS (and Hellraiser) made into a FRANCHISE when Nightbreed was not, and SO MUCH BETTER???? for the love of GOD... remake NIGHTBREED and plan it as a trilogy and GET IT RIGHT THIS TIME... dont just retread films that already have a bazillion sequels... remake NightBreed (as CABAL) and do the series JUSTICE this time!!! Hanso... 5 times I think... Whitula doesnt have the same ring to it as the terrifying SPATULA!

From The Forbidden: "He was bright to the point of gaudiness: his flesh waxy yellow, his thin lips pale blue, his wild eyes glittering as if their irises were set with rubies. His jacket was patchwork, his trousers the same. He looked, she thought, almost ridiculous, with his blood-stained motley, and the hint of rouge on his jaundiced cheeks." (sorry, I couldn't resist, I'm a huge Barker honk) But, yeah, as far as I'm concerned Todd made that movie - Like recasting 'Nightmare' without Englund (or, for that matter, Hellraiser w/out Bradley), I find it hard to imagine anyone else playing The Candyman.
