We're approaching the final months of development for Capcom's next installment into their Award-winning franchise with Resident Evil 5 ready to hit both the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 either later this year or 2009, depending on different sources. Capcom, having just wrapped up their latest Gaming convention for upcoming titles, has released a new trailer for the fifth installment and this new trailer focuses on game play looks and feel for leading character Chris Redfield, who is returning to the franchise after a 10 year break.

The end of the new trailer also gives us our first look at the new leading lady who will be helping Chris in his latest adventure against the evils of Umbrella. Check out the new clip below.

Previous news posted here tells us what to expect with the new game such as;

Some of the details include some more information on leading character Chris Redfield's return after a 10 year void, where all that we know is that he has been battling Umbrella. The only clues from the new trailer is a badge he's sporting that says "BSAA", which according to the latest article, is a new extralegal organization employing Chris. In addition, the producer has pointed out that other than his trusty gun, Chris will be sporting a survival knife and a sniper rifle. Most of his arsenal will be carried on his back throughout the game, with a new single-button switching method for gamers. Chris will also be carrying a lightsource (flashlight?) in some of the game's darker settings like a cave sequence.

While the plot is still being kept under wraps, the overall concept is described as an "escape from a predicament."

The producer was silent on the enemies except to say that they will be neither Zombies or Ganados (the fodder of RE 4). Also, in some of the latest shots shown, the enemies are now representing multiple races even if the setting is Africa, something which has been brought up by fans after viewing the first trailers for RE5 this past year.

Chris won't be alone. He'll have two ladies around throughout the game, one is a blonde in a long, red dress, someone hinted that may need to escape with the title character at the end. The other lady is a darker skinned beauty who will be carrying her own arsenal and will likely be another ally for Chris.

Here's that new trailer!

Is that Ada Wong?
jacobjoseph 6/2/2008 4:42:48 AM
No it's someone new, Ada is asian, this new girl is black.
ponyboy76 6/2/2008 6:26:32 AM
The new girl is black. Its a horror video game, which if its anything like most horror flicks, she'll say something stupid and be dead in the first 30 mins.

You guys are right, should've watched the trailer first. I thought I read somewhere that Ada Wong might appear in this game, maybe i'm mistaken. Where is Scytheluna when you need him?

Damn, wish I could get video at work. So if this is coming out on Xbox first I'm assuming it was designed for Xbox and is being brought over to PS3? Or was there duel development going on? Does that make sense or am I a bigger idiot than usual? Still trying to decide which system to blow my money on and RE is a game I'm always looking forward to. If it ain’t taking full advantage of the PS3 that should pretty much seal the deal for me.

Seeing that all of them came on the Playstation first, aside from Resident Evil 4 and the Dreamcast one, I'm going to say that it's going to the PS3 first or atleast at the same time as the Xbox 360. I don't know why Capcom would do it that way. And I'd say go for a PS3 because although I admit they have a slow start their about to explode. RE5, Bioshock (finally coming to PS3, too), Metal Gear Solid 4, man I forgot all the good exclusives coming out. I know it's a matter of opinion but I like the PS3 exclusives better than Xbox 360, none of which I named aside from MGS4 and the PS3 is a Bluray player.

And by the way, the enemies sure reminded me of the bad guys from Resident Evil 4, with the things coming out of their heads and the man with the burlap sack on his head and a chainsaw. Hmm? I know they said it wasn't but it's awfully similiar.

I'm pretty sure RE5 will hit both systems at the same time.

RE 5 is a simultaneous launch for both PS3 and 360. Not sure who the new lady is, she doesn't resemble anyone from the previous games. I'm still waiting for them to decide to remake the first 3 games using the RE 4 engine for the Wii. It's easy money waiting to be made and most of those games are seriously due for an overhaul. From what I've gleaned RE5 was designed on 360 architecture and will launch for both systems as current plans indicate. It's going to be a few years before the cell processor is able to pull ahead in any perceptible way so it's a little early to be getting excited about any major differences in graphical output or performance between the two machines for the two versions of RE 5. I do have to question your statement about preferring Sony's exclusives to Microsoft's at this point though. Primarily I ask "What exclusives?" Other than Metal Gear Solid 4, the only real exclusive hits on the PS3 are Ratchet and Clank, Resistance Fall of Man, Uncharted: Drakes Fortune (Unless you count the Ninja Gaiden remake, which I don't). If you're suggesting that you prefer, Warhawk, Heavenly Sword, Haze, and Lair to games like Mass Effect, Gears of War, Dead Rising, and Halo 3, well, have fun with that because I bought each of those Sony games and they were all pretty lackluster. Don't get me wrong, the PS3 has a lot of potential, but the bottom line is that they're still trailing Microsoft at this point in terms of quality exclusive titles (especially with Ninja Gaiden 2's release and the forthcoming Fable 2 and Too Human and Gears of War 2) and unless you've played the aforementioned Microsoft exclusives, it doesn't make much sense to say you "prefer" the exclusive titles from Sony. I own both systems, so I can definitively make a statement regarding the offerings available on both systems. Have you played any of those games? I'm not attempting to be insulting, I'm just trying to get a feel for what you're basing your assessment on. Personally, even the best of Sony's stuff at this point hasn't struck me as ground-breaking, which isn't to say that they don't have a bunch of multiplatform stuff that's fantastic. Assassin's Creed, Bioshock, and Oblivion are games that any gamer should have in their collection, and personally I'm sick of brand loyalty and exclusives altogether. That's why I buy everybody's stuff so I never miss out on a good game. Analysts are projecting that third party exclusives are going the way of the dodo, due to high development costs, so Microsoft and Sony will have to start taking over more responsibility for making their consoles desirable. Sony's still got a bit of catching up to do, and while the climate may change a year or two from now, right now, Metal Gear is the only first rate title even on the horizon from Sony at least until the fall. I'll be happily dusting of my PS3 for that, but most of their great offerings are probably going to be announced at E3 and hopefully we'll get an armload of great stuff around the holidays. Resistance 2, Infamous, God of War 3, and the new Jak game will help to tip the scales a bit, and if we see any announcements at E3 regarding the follow up to Shadow of the Colossus, Sony will be well on their way to catching up, but let's not go congratulating them until they have something on par with Mass Effect all of their own. That being said, both consoles are getting Fallout 3, so everybody wins there. I think it would also help if they shut up about Killzone 2 until they're ready to release it. Jeez we've been hearing about that for 3 years since it was announced and it doesn't look half as good as Resident Evil 5 or Resistance 2. Look, either way you go, you'll get a great machine, Sony's got Blu Ray, and once they lose that crappy packaging and get some cool collectible swag, I'll make the move, but that wasn't a selling feature for me, merely an added bonus. In terms of games, for the most part buying a PS3 is an investment in what will likely be a bright future, even if the present is a little sparse on quality PS3-only fare. It took a few years for the PS2 to really show what it could do though, the same thing goes here. For now though, Microsoft has the edge in snagging exclusive properties.

Y'know I just reread the article and I had thought it read coming out on Xbox later this year and sometime in 2009 for PS3 - but that ain't what it seems to say now. You're probably right hanso, which makes me think it is being built for the Playstation and probably exported to the Xbox. This makes me lean a little closer to Xbox. Why can’t these damn consoles just be around the $200 mark each so I can get me both?
joeybaloney 6/2/2008 11:28:36 AM
Or.... maybe not. Where'd you hear it was being designed on the 360, scythe?
