With Captain America (Chris Evans) expected to jump Marvel timelines between this summer's release of Captain America: The First Avenger and next summer's premiere of The Avengers, it's probably to be expected that fans can look forward to seeing the iconic character in a new suit next year. Well, consider it confirmed with lead star Chris Evans telling MTV Movies that he does indeed receive an entirely new costume for Joss Whedon's superhero team effort, which began production this week in New Mexico. The actor tried on the new outfit as part of the screen test and here's what he had to say.

"Yeah, it's [the new suit] awesome, It's really cool. I was worried because I started to get really attached to the old one. I got to really start digging it. It's not that easy to move in, but I started really liking it."

Check out the rest in the video player down below.

Captain America arrives in theaters July 22, 2011.

The Avengers lands next summer on May 4, 2012.

Good to know, but let's see it.

Maybe he'll get scale mail and real wings?

Well early in the production of CA the concept art for the suit was released so I don't doubt that they'll do something similar with the Avengers. Another suit that I'd like to see is Hawkeye's.

batmite, Lets hope not. I hate the wings. They make him look dated.

I'm all for a modern Cap costume, only makes sense, really...here's my question about The Avengers...while I'm sure it's going to completely own on many, many levels, anybody else just a tad irritated that neither Ant Man nor Wasp are in this?  They're only founding members, after all.  And what the hell ever happened to Edgar Wright's Ant Man movie?

MrJawbreakingEquilibrium 4/29/2011 7:46:34 AM

Still working on it, Caveman, supposedly. Or at least in talks that are heading somewhere.

I'm not that irrirated about it. As long as they are making good movies. I wouldn't have minded all the changes in X-men if that last few movies were even near decent. At least this is Marvel changing up their own properties, they know what they're doing. We just have to look at it like What If comics or the Ultimate Universe - totally different universes. Maybe they'll even give the Marvel Movie Universe their own number like 616 or such.

Hey SC - I agree with part of what your saying but if they went that route of introing all of the Original members with indi movies before making the full Avengers then we wouldn't have it until like 2014 or 2015.  By then who knows if all the regulats like Evans, Downey Jr, and the rest will still be up for it and the like.

I think they had to strike quickly to entrench the franchise and they can add from there.  I'm still hoping for an Ant Man movie....hopefully they include Wasp with him that way it kills 2 birds with one stone.

As for Caps new costume I hope the wings are dropped too.  I like them but I like the movie helmet better.

SarcasticCaveman 4/29/2011 7:58:12 AM

Don't get me wrong, I'm with ya MrJawbreaking...that's why I said "a tad irritated" instead of "F*ING PISSED"...LOL.  Just wish the ball could have been started rolling soon enough to incorperate the characters.

Lsn22s 4/29/2011 7:59:35 AM

@ Caveman...I hear ya, but look at it this way....they HAVE Cap, Thor, Hulk and Iron Man....I'd rather go without Wasp and Pym than any of THOSE characters....Although if you switch out Hawkeye and Black Widow for Pym and Wasp that would make more sense...but then again, action-wise, Hawkeye and Black Widow will probably be more badass on-screen than a girl who can shrink and a guy who can grow really tall/control ants imho

SarcasticCaveman 4/29/2011 8:05:24 AM

True enough, Lsn22s...love the Ultimate Hawkeye...dextrous enough to rip out his own fingernails and use them as projectiles to kill his captors while being strapped to a chair...all kinds of badassery.
