Wessmith, agree with you on Evans. He was Steve Rogers completely. Also the writing of the part. They made him a good, decent man which also made him an interesting person. A true hero that you can believe in and enjoy watching his journey. I'm glad they made him the focus much more than the Red Skull. Skull to me was kind of the cookie cutter manical bad guy with no nuances to make him interesting to watch. Hugo Weaving did it well as always but the wriitng of the character didn't make him someone I wanted to know more about. They did that with nearly everyone else. Even the Howling Commandos were given great characterizations to make them a joy to watch. I wanted to hang out with those guys and party.

Thought it was excellent, one of my favorite comic films, I may have enjoyed it more than Iron Man but I have to see it again to be sure. I enjoyed it so much more than I thought I would. I enjoyed Thor but wasn't blown away by it, thought cap would be on the same level, glad I was wrong. And again I may be in the minority on this but casting evans seems to be an inspired choice and goes to show again you can't judge a book by it's cover. I know a lot of people were skeptical myself included but he really did a terrific job just really enjoyed the movie. Maybe cause it's been a lackluster summer got to see it again to make sure but my feeling is this Cap movie is one of the best comic films in awhile.

I agree wholeheartedly with wessmith's post on story and characters. I thought it was done excellently especially when you take into account everything the film introduces, from the Red Skull, Carter, The Commandos, Bucky, Arnim Zola, Dr Erskine  and even TLJ's Colonel phillips who got more screen time than I thought he would. Yet the film managed to stay on focus on CAP

I remember a couple of people called Evans as their choice, I didn't think it would happen cause he played the Torch. Glad Marvel  and Johnston kept after him.

And let me say that I do hope The Commandos get their own film. That may be a lot to ask so I at least hope they do another period piece with CAP and give them boys more well deserved screen time.

Agree with you all...great movie, great casting.  One of my favorite comic to movie films so far.  And I dont even like period pieces.  I think Iron Man, Cap, Thor and Incredible Hulk movies all ranked about the same with me.  I like them all.  Let's hope they do a bit better with IM3 and Thor 2 then they did with the IM2 sequel when they come out in 2013.

Bravo Cap!

Question to my fellow maniacs...When Cap wakes up and the shield agent walks in she was played by Amanda Righetti (Friday the 13th, Mentalist). I thought it was a little odd that she had just this tiny part. Could she have been Agent Sharon Carter? I know she's a blonde in the comics, but I just thought it was curious that they'd put Amanda in the film in such a throw-away role. Plus, when Steve broke out she called alarm/code 13 or something like that and Sharon is agent 13. Anyone else see that and think what I thought?

Good catch wessmith.

She is not a well known actress but is a potential up and comer. Yes, Sharon Carter is Agent 13 of SHIELD. Would be cool if it was her.

I don't watch the Mentalist but I do read Maxim. :)

I had the feeling Cap would beat Potter. I thought after Potter had gotten a billion that most people who want to see would have seen it and that's a lot of people. And the Marvel movies are always a pretty big draw on top of that. I'm curious how much money Avengers is going to make. Is it going go make the same amount of money the Marvel movies make individually or multiplied by some arbitrary number.

After doing a little digging, I found out that Amanda will be in Avengers. Although her name isn't listed as yet, the majority of sites are speculating that she's playing either Carol Danvers or Sharon Carter. After seeing her at the end of Cap, the way she responded when Steve woke up I'm betting she's Sharon Carter. I'd like to see her build a little bit of a relationship with Steve in Avengers and then have a larger role if there's a Captain America 2.

I'm not suggesting the movie needed to be about the Red Skull but give the guy some meat.  There are plenty of movies where there was a great bad guy that didn't overshadow the hero.  Too many of you are hung up on all the batman movies when you make comments like that.  Darth Vader anyone?  Did SW the movie end up being about Vader or did you just know he was the main bad arse in the film our heros had to face?  The same can not be said for Red Skull.

Again, not hating on the movie.  I liked it but the 2nd half fell a tad flat because Cap didn't have a decent bad guy to face.  Heck, if they would have had Skull kill Bucky it would have added to the tension.  Like I said, Skull was wasted.
