Un-Wise: Chris Evans did draw more of the female crowd for Captain America, much like Samuel Jackson being cast as Mace Windu in the Star Wars prequels to help draw in the urban crowd. While Evans did an excellent job as Captain America, not everyone would know this at the time he was cast. From a marketing standpoint, it worked. I'm not saying that's why all women went and saw it - there are plenty of fangirls out there. And really? You have to use the cliched gay slander on me? How old are you? Two or three? Grow up. And I'm not whining about Cowboys & Aliens. I don't care whether you watch it or not. I just call you a hypocrite, because you are. You'll condemn one movie for being exactly what you like about another. What were your grievances for Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides? Bad story and no compelling visuals. So if it'd had good visuals but bad story (Transformers 1, 2, & 3) then it would have done well for you, yes? By that reasoning, At World's End should have been your favorite Pirates film, as it had all of the visuals but no decent story. Imagine how it would have looked in 3D. But no, you didn't like At World's End. And try taking a better look at the reaction to Cowboys & Aliens and then we'll talk ambivalence. Comments like, "This movie's going to be a steaming pile of shit." or "This is totally lame.", which are all over the place, fall into the negative category. Lastly, you're riling yourself with bait I'm not even throwing out there. You should be past such things. Set an example.

I thought the movie started off good then got worse as it went it on.   It had very little sense of danger once Rogers becomes Captain America.  I think he gets punched one time in the entire movie.  Anyway, in the end it was solid flick but nothing really special about it.

I probably will never watch this flick again, not cause it sucks balls but because I found Steve Rogers to be the most uninteresting character of the ones that Marvel as put up recently.  He's so one dimensional and the fact that he's a good guy who does the right thing 100 percent of the time doesn't sit well with me, seems like an outdated concept.  Shit is more grey nowadays and I like my heroes to be more complex.

Oh and The Avengers trailers sucked, cause at one point of the trailer you can' t tell what the hell is being shown due to the glimpses/flashes going by so quick.  When they did settle down a bit, what they showed looked cool.

Oh sheet, krath and wise war about to begin...

hanso, son!  You took the words out of my mouth for the most part.  I'll see it agian though when it comes out on DVD.  I didn't have a problem with Cap being a boy scout as that's who he's always been. In fact, I think that could be an interesting way to take the character in part 2...a boy scout in the 21st century.  A dead bread for the most part, could be a good fish out of water story unless Avengers screws up what they can do with part 2.

I felt the same way about Avengers trailer as well but they have the flashes in photo format on the internet now so you can see everything and it does look cool.

Hobbs old buddy, if you would be so kind as to point me towards where I can find the trailer photos, I would appreciate it.

CAPTAIN AMERICA OWNS!!  I'd like to see it at least surpass Hangover II for this summer, but as long as it ties or slightly beats out Thor, I'm happy.  The film is outstanding in every way.  It was definitely a B /A- film, and that's if I'm really nitpicky as a Cap fan.

After seeing Cap twice this weekend, I still like Thor slightly better.  Both very good though.  With actuals in, Thor was slightly higher than Cap and Cap will need some good legs to catch and pass Thor.  May 2012 can't get here fast enough.

Before I begin, I must side note-

Anyone else besides me ever get insanely, foaming-at-the-mouth angry when you keep typing in your username and password, you know their spelled/laid out properly, and you're about to throw the computer throw your window, when you realize your user/pass is for another site? Yeah, that just happened here.

As for Cap, I think the man known as awesome (See Son, Hanso/All-Hail) hit it on the head. With the story progressing, I felt less of Steve's peril, if there ever was any such moment where he was in danger. I can only remember him getting punched once or twice as well.

Captain America was good, but not great. It did it's job, but I think we're going to see a decline in comic films just because they aren't the next big "thing" anymore. Batman Begins comes out, everyone has to go broody. Iron Man comes out, everyone has to go pop-cultury. But the law of diminishing returns has come back on most films since then. I understand why Captain America had to be made, I think the film looked great, was acted competently, and was paced properly.

Yet, give me a week (or even less) and I'll have forgotten completely about Captain America. I think honestly Thor entertained me more, and it was him I knew less about.

Kudos to it knocking out Mary Poppins, erm, Harry Potter. I called that 70% drop last week, and, after seeing it, stick to my assessment-felt no danger in this film either, and there were way too many "take the majesty of the scene for its beauty" moments. Felt like that film dragged in many many placements. I may be wrong about Harry making 320 , but considering the opening weekend was 170-180 million, that's not great. Looks like it'll be Harry and Optimus as our only 300 winners.

Isn't that crazy? The biggest US film of 2011 is a tie between Transformers & Harry Potter, both only dropping around 325-350.

Makes me wonder what, if any, movie has a solid chance at 400 next year. This summer was crowded to be sure, but next summer? Look out

@ hanso...I definitely understand where you're coming from in regards to the Captain America charater. He is a boyscout in every way, but for me that's what draws me to the character. I'm tired of the anti-hero schtick. I liked unabashed heroes in comics. Honestly, at first, I didn't like that they gave Captain America a gun. I got over that quickly though and it really worked in the movie, but I loved the dialogue between Steve and Erskine when they first met. Steve said he didn't want to kill but he he didn't like bullies. The movie really captured the Core of Captain America and with how they've built the character it'll be interesting to see him apply those morals in Avengers. I believe his character excels because it's so different than what we normally get.

As for the Red Skull. I liked that this wasn't Captain America vs. Red Skull. It was Cap against Hydra and Red Skull was just the leader of Hydra. Captain America was just the leader of a group out to destroy Hydra's bases; finding and taking down Red Skull was just a part of the overall mission. It was much more believable that way than if Steve had just gone after Red Skull. He wanted to take down all of Hydra. And, for me, the movie gave me just enough on Red Skull to make him interesting and dangerous to Rogers' mission.

That's one of the reasons I think the movie is so good is because it didn't just fall into some good guy vs. bad guy rhetorical film; it was a film about Steve's journey and his part in a battle of good vs. evil. All of the characters had depth because it was somewhat of an ensemble movie with Steve being the spearhead.

I do, however respect your views hanso and I like that you explain your thinking and thought processes. I always find your posts interesting to read.

hanso my posts are not going up maybe its the spam filter for links.  Google the avengers teaser stills and you should find something and check out AICN for a good still of caps outfit for the Avengers.

krathpussydroid get off my dick already, you're like a little girl with a crush. I don't give a fuck about you or that you're gay for Evans or your stupid line of thinking for movies. So if you like one sci/fi film you're suppose to like them all. STFU already

wessmith good catch on the Carter stuff. I remember reading someone speculating about the girl playing Sharon but it didn't dawn on me
