Captain Power to Return with Phoenix Rising

Rumors and Speculation

By Robert T. Trate     October 02, 2012

An interesting bit of news was sent to Mania about the possible return of Captain Power and the Soldiers of Future. The Geeks of Doom are reporting that Gary Goodard and company are planning a return to the series. Here is what Geeks of Doom reported:

“...Goddard is bringing in some heavy behind-the-camera talent to make this the best show it can possibly be. Along with Goddard the new series will be produced by Roger Lay Jr., Eric Carnagey, and former Paramount Television Senior Executive Jeffrey Hayes. During his time at Paramount Hayes oversaw the production of such hit shows as Family Ties, Cheers, and Star Trek: The Next Generation. Judith and Garfield Reeves-Stevens, former writers and producers for Star Trek: Enterprise and the creators of the U.S. spin-off of the popular British sci-fi series Primeval entitled Primeval: New World, will be working on the show’s creative development as well” (read the full story here).

Based on the article, it all seems just like a lot of wishful thinking. We here at Mania would love to see the series return. Check out our review of the complete series from last year here

I remember Captain Power debuted the same time as ST:TNG and at the time I thought The children's show made to sell toys had more mature storylines than Trek.

Or rather to be more specific, the Power's characters were going through various moral, relationship, and action-oriented dilemmas with some pain and suffering and were reacting the way modern people do. TNG characters had and always reacted from the more mature 23rd century way Roddenberry thought they should which made them seem especially aloft. I've gotten used to it now but at the time I was enjoying those low budget Rangers more.

There are some episodes on youtube still.

power rangers mixed with terminator mixed with trek borg, , sounds cool. i never watched the tv. show i just now watched the 80's trailers of the captain power show on youtube. not missing much at all but i can kinda see how this could be cool in a whole new way if done right. while watching some of the  tv comercials on powers i felt that it was aimed more to pushing toy sales and not so much tv shows. well except for the tv comercial interrupted by power from a signal from the future lol, i was like cool then in the middle of the comercial it turned out it was for a hand held lazer tag gun that you could shoot the tv and the tv would send a signal back to your lazer gun and if it hit you it would fall apart. crazy 80's shit no doubt

Done right, with the  right cast, good digital effects, well written story, and a focus on action and character development this could be exceptionally good. I hope to see Captain Power reborn on the small screen.

I really hope this happens.

Okay I just watched a clip on Youtube.  Not only have I never seen this, but WOW, WOW WOW WOW, I can see why this was dropped.  But I can't for the life of me see why anyone would have green lit the thing to begin with.  Holy swet mother of pearl was it LAME.  (I appologize to anyone who loved this in their childhood.  I liked Flash Gordon as a kid, and I know that is pretty lame too.)

I used to love this show when I was a kid.

I used to have one of the main villian vehicles for this show but had a hard time finding it on. When I did though I admit it was kinda awesome to interact with the show. I think I may have even had it on video. If it does come out I hope they put new toys out there that also interact with the new show if so I may buy my first toy in close to a decade or so.

I used to watched this when I was a kid.  I was so sad when Jennifer "Pilot" died.  I hope they really make this happen
