Manic Maniac: We Are the Villain - Jul 03, 2008 - 10:29am
Quiet hanso. The adults are talking.
Once again Wiseguy we're on the same page. And yeah, 24 hours is not that long to do any REAL worldwide changes. I mean people are people and you're always going to have the "haves" and the "have nots". That has always been the case, even before Jesus. These ways are old and set deep into our instinct and character. Where, once again, Darwinism comes into play. The strong and couragous have always been the ones off fighting the wars while the weak smart ones are left to run things. For the most part these are the "haves" and therefore are surviving through the wars and battles to raise their families of "haves". What I'm trying to say is: What drives us? I like the comic with the alternate storyline where Superman ends up crash landing in the Soviet Union. It puts a total different spin on things. Would he be our hero? Probably not. He'd be their hero. You would need enough time to take out all the people in power who profit from other peoples suffering, no matter what their race, and show everybody that the world would be better if we all worked together. We'd be a much more technologically advanced species and could concentrate on the world wide problems then. It's hard to ask somebody to be a hero when they have their own problems to worry about. It's like, "yeah. I'd help you but doing so would mean that'd I'd probably lose my job. Then how do I pay the bills so that I can put a roof over my families head and food in their bellies?" That's the mentality of our everyday-hero in this society.
Maniac Gives Early Praise to Luhrmann's AUSTRALIA - Jul 02, 2008 - 07:26am
I'm not a huge fan of Kidman, but I don't mind some of the movies she's done. I'll probably go see this because I love westerns. This being about Australia reminds me of 'Quigley Down Under'. One Tom Selleck's better western attempts. I like me some epic western's too. As long as it's not like 'Wyatt Earp'. That was waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay to long.
Cohen and Ferrell Lead SHERLOCK HOLMES - Jul 02, 2008 - 07:09am
First let me just say that I'm totally biased on this since I'm a huge fan of Will Ferrell. I might be alone on this but I couldn't stop laughing at Jackie Moon's antics, or his song which is my main ring tone. I'm not stupid though and see the difference between his hits and misses. I think he should take a break and relax and then come back to movies.
As for this. I don't think you guys remember all the takes on this public property in the 80's. Do any of you guys remember 'Without a Clue'? It starred Michael Caine as Holmes and Ben Kingsley as Watson. It played on a different angle where Watson was the real genius and Holmes was an idiot who got credit for all of Watson's success. And then you have Gene Wilder's comedic spin-off from this franchise as well. So this kind of stuff has been done and re-done before. I also enjoyed 'Young Sherlock Holmes'. I thought the ending was cool with the hint to his nemisis in the hotel ledger. I always thought that there would be a sequel. I'm willing to give this a chance.
Phillip Noyce Directing Cruise's EDWIN A. SALT? - Jul 01, 2008 - 08:58am
Good observation monkeyfoot. I would rather he worked on Dune than this project. I don't like the roles Cruise protrays in his movies. They seem kind of everyday. Like a number of other actors could have been cast for the role and done the same job or better. I just don't see the appeal. He can keep producing just as long as he stays behind the camera. Anyhow I'm far more interested in a Peter Berg version of Dune than this.
Jonathan Levine Takes on VENDETTA - Jul 01, 2008 - 08:40am
Damn! That's right. I forgot about that fft5305. I agree with you, but I think for this they'll be going after a younger actor. I also don't know what type of "cleaner" they're referring to here. Could be the type that Keitel has played or the kind that's more techy and wipes peoples existance from government databases, membership clubs, gets ride of their personal belongings, and such. Kind of like the Eraser. Who knows.
Four Historical Figures Added to MUSEUM 2 - Jul 01, 2008 - 07:25am
This sounds like fun. I've always liked Stiller's movies. I can't wait for Tropic Thunder. I like when comedies portray Napoleon. You can always count on somebody ripping on him about his size and his inadequacies due to his height. But why the Egyptian thing again? Couldn't they use another medium for magical mayhem? Not that I care, but it seems over played in Hollywood right now.
Phillip Noyce Directing Cruise's EDWIN A. SALT? - Jul 01, 2008 - 07:19am
This is funny. In the "Related Content" box it pulled some really old articles. One of them titled "Tom Cruise still in IRON MAN" from Tues, July 25, 2006. Can you guys imagine? What a disaster that would've been. I'm glad Paramount and Cruise had their falling out, because they might have forced their hand and given him the role. Man that would have been another Marvel disaster.
Anyhow. I'm not to thrilled about this project since it sounds like another Mission Impossible rehash. I'm talking about the first one. Which I liked, but do we need another one? Eh?
Jonathan Levine Takes on VENDETTA - Jul 01, 2008 - 07:04am
I don't know much about this guy and his cridentials don't say much either. I've always enjoyed a movie about guys who clean up after these types of things. The problem is that they almost always end up with this type of story line. I mean the guys cleaning up after somebody so naturally he's going to see some nasty shit. But what intrigues me is the "vendetta" part. There's no mention of what he's vendetting in the plot summary.
Matthew Fox Ready to Lead BILLY SMOKE - Jun 30, 2008 - 07:52am
Yeah this does sound familiar. How many movies have we seen where a total badass is put on the brink of death just to come back and exact some rightous vengence through some stylized action sequences. Hmm ... to many to count. This is definitly not an original idea, but am interested to see how they carry it out. Sounds kind of like Punisher though, "ride the world of all assassins." Like taking on a life long vendetta. I wonder what the catalyst will be. I mean Castle lost his whole family. What's this guy going to lose? Or is he just bored? Or will it be one of those, "you were made to be a killer. A killer is who you are. You can't deny it." Sounds familiar. Just like this whole article. All you have to do is change the actual star and title and it could be 40% of my movie collection.
But still curious.
First SOLACE Trailer Online Now - Jun 30, 2008 - 07:41am
YES!! The premiere of a teaser trailer... I don't care for these types of things. It's like the receptionist at the front of my office, I can stare (in secret) but can't touch. I usually like to wait till the full trailers come out. I saw Get Smart last night and laughed so hard I shat myself. This is a movie that I saw the teaser for thought it would be stupid slap stick humor that usually gets old 30 minutes into it. But I was pleasantly surprised. I am a Bond fanatic so I'll definitely be seeing this in theatre even if it's just frivelous action and sex ... or just sex ... hey Hollywood how about a Bond porno?
Scribes Rogen and Goldberg Talk HORNET - Jun 30, 2008 - 07:31am
In line behind you guys on this one, but if it sucks then I may have to hop into something else to get my values-worth. When The Dark Knight comes out I won't be hopping, I'll be living in the theatre.
Top Maniacal Rumors: Shazam-mess , Avengers Team & Super Survival - Jun 27, 2008 - 09:39am
Come on joey-Giant-baloney. Japan's got one, so we need one too. I can't wait until the sequels start coming out with names like: "Cloverfield vs. Mothman" Battle royal in the big apple.
McGowen & Rodriguez Team Up for RED SONJA - Jun 27, 2008 - 09:26am
Damn straight Rick440!
And joey-slap-me-with-your-baloney you should know! When are you coming over for movie night?
fft5305 you've got a point. This has happened a few times and it usually turns out badly unless you've got major talent like James Cameron.
The Manic Maniac: The Comic Book is Dead - Jun 27, 2008 - 09:17am
You're right fft5305. I've had to say goodbye to my local comic distributor, where I used to get my issues way back in middle school, due to this. I still collect but with talented writer being snatched up by big name studios I fear that the comic book will be dead. How many times have read articles on this site about some comic book being adapted after two or three issues have been released. Almost as if these guys get into the comic industry as a bridge to the movie idustry. And why? Well because Hollywood has built that bridge and it's a big one. I'm not saying it's easy to get into the comic industry but I remember when seeing my favorite writers and illustrators on some of my favorite books and getting excited for the run. Well where's the new blood? In Hollywood. I think the future of comic books is trade paper back books. I remember waaaay back when only the most popular story archs would get that honor and it would take a long time before you saw it. Now it's more like a couple of months before the end of a story arch you can get it on TPB. Like a DVD release after the theatre release. Which is what this article is about. Bummer. Well I'm doing my part. When these movies come out my kids run to me and ask if I have any of the comic books and I tell them that I do, but they'll have to start at the beginning if they want to read them. RESPECT! And they do. You should here them in the movies picking the little easter eggs out, hacking up the mis-lead-Hollywoodized-rehash, and such, when the most of the audience is clueless about what they're seeing. Enough to make an old comic collector father proud.

Top Maniacal Rumors: Shazam-mess , Avengers Team & Super Survival - Jun 27, 2008 - 07:33am
I'm stoked about a Shazam adaptation. I'm glad that they didn't just grab the nearest writer for re-writes because we all know how that ends up.
What's up with Bryan Singer's Valkyrie? Isn't that thing being delayed BIG time? Why? That's usually a bad sign. I'll wait for some more info on Superman IV (the sequel to Superman Returns) per villain, co-stars, and such. Bosworth has got to go. They should bring in the Lois from Smallville.
As for an Avengers film I know that they're saying that these characters are a definit but could that mean that they're might be a couple others? Because I'm hoping to see the Black Widow. That russian red head would steam up the screen... the theatre... and my pants. And, yes, so far all the hints of a team being put together usually means that there is a reason. I mean the government doesn't just put a team together and then have them sit around waiting for some catastrophic event to happen. And I don't think one or two villains would be bad enough for a "team" to handle it. We'll see what happens.
Most WANTED - Jun 27, 2008 - 07:21am
Your both right. Um... I got nothing else to say. You both hit it on the head.
RUM TIME!!!
Hulk's Louis Leterrier Leading TITANS Remake - Jun 27, 2008 - 07:16am
I think Louis has proven himself for this kind of project. And, yes, with Kasdan behind the script this is definitly shaping up. I'm with the rest of you guys and wishing Sony would stop being the proprietary ASSSHOLES that they are and release a little of this to at least get some scripts written. BUT... I have hope. Maybe they're waiting for God Of War 3 to see how that does. But the argument there is that shitier games with only one treatment and lesser success have been made into movies. But that's Sony. Just like UMD, BETA, SCD, and many more they like to grab tight their properties until they squeeze the death out of them. I do own a PS3, but only because I had to choose between a turd sandwich and a giant dusche.
THE MUMMY 3 and Summer Olympics Team Up. - Jun 27, 2008 - 07:05am
That's for sure Jarrod. This sounds sooooo gimicky. Maybe because last Olympics ratings were terrible. So maybe they figure that nobody new of them? I didn't until they were almost over. In a time of DVR's, seasonal shows on DVD, and shows being put on the net, who watches LIVE television anymore. I get my advertisment from you guys when you praise or slam a show.
McGowen & Rodriguez Team Up for RED SONJA - Jun 27, 2008 - 07:01am
Yeah right joey.
I don't know about this. It could turn out to be one of those cheesy Kevin Sorbo movies like 'Kull the Conquerer'. Man that was bad. If Rodriguez goes gritty with this and dark than it would be cool. I like the idea of a Red Sonja battling evil in a world like that. Kind of the beautiful beam of light in a cold dark place. Oh man, the original . . . is a closet favorite of mine.
New Posters for PUNISHER Online - Jun 27, 2008 - 06:53am
I don't know about the chandelier thing either but maybe in the right context. I've ridiculously done stunts and then the same stunt, done right, with the right chemistry of story, professionalism, and acting turn out awesome. But we'll just have to wait and see. I like the comment by Lexi when she was surprised they were able to pull enough PG material make a trailer. For me that's a good sign, especially with a character like this.
THE INCREDIBLE HULK (Wii Version) - Jun 26, 2008 - 07:44am
I actually just picked this game up yesterday and played it last night on my PS3. It's really good. I played the earlier version for the PS2 and this one is very similar (even down to the combo's.) I can't imagine playing this on my Wii. Where Resident Evil 4 looked really good and plays very good for the Wii. This game is just a straight adrenaline rush of rampage and destruction. I think the Wii's processor would be maxed to the gills so they'd really have to turn down the content to make it work.
One little problem that I noticed, so far, is that you can't see very far. When I climbed up to the tallest building and looked across the city you can only view a couple of blocks. The rest is blocked by some kind fog looking mist like they did for GTA San Andreas. Where I can see the application for it in San Andreas (due to the MASSIVE amount of content) for a PS3 game (on a Blu-Ray format no less) it's kind of shitty. In Spider-Man 3 for the PS2 you can see further. Maybe I'm being to nit-picky or maybe I've been playing to much Assasin's Creed, where you can see for miles over the horizon.
Mandate Suffers Consequences in FAR AWAY - Jun 26, 2008 - 07:13am
I'm with you sportwarrior. I can't stand those movies that think more of themselves than the message they're trying to convey. I'm not sure about a photojournalist turning out a script and then directing too. Where does someone get the connections to do a leap of career like that? Can I do it too? I work the fry machine at my local McDonalds.
Walden Deals With Epidemic in CRUELEST MILES - Jun 26, 2008 - 07:10am
Sounds like Jack London's White Fang. I'm not into these types of movies. Chronicles II was terrible. It was like Lord of the Rings meets the Holy Bible. What I couldn't get around was that Aslan had this great power to destroy these bad guys but doesn't do it till the end of the movie until the little girl makes some kind of personal growth, or some silly shit. So he waits till thousands of guys die than does something. Weak.
SDCC Watch: Marky Max and Keanu Klaatu! - Jun 26, 2008 - 06:55am
You bring up a good observation sportwarrior. It might fit as Keanu (although not his invention) is closely associated with the "bullet time" effect. I don't know if they'll do that in the movie version of the game but for those of you who haven't played it the "bullet time" effect is such an intrical part of the game that you gain time as your hour glass fills up than you hit the designated button and when in "bullet time" you can gain better control of your dives, shooting, aiming, and such. In some cases it was almost impossible to pass certain levels with out it. Just thinking about Wahlberg doing that is kind of . . . well maybe a trailer would help. I keep thinking about 'The Big Hit'. I enjoyed the movie for what it was. On the other hand I think that Wahlberg can play the "on-the-ragged-edge-destroyed-cop-with-nothing-to-lose" Max Payne where as I think of Keanu as more of a pretty boy.
First Full Trailer for EAGLE EYE - Jun 25, 2008 - 01:47pm
I don't know what happened. I don't know why it did it twice.
Answer to your question is Spielberg gave Hanks his big break in acting in movies and eventually he was Spielberg's "it" man, just as Shia is now.
First Full Trailer for EAGLE EYE - Jun 25, 2008 - 11:20am
A couple of things here. The trailer was cool and I like the concept. I'm always game for some deep conspiracy stuff.
No this doesn't look like the Matrix. If anything it reminds me a little bit like Bourne. If anything....
Why do they have to show us who wrote the check for this? Do I care, does anybody care, that Spielberg backed this financially? Uh, NO! What? Putting that little credit up there for the trailer is going to make the audience think, "oooh, nobody writes a check like Spielberg. It must be awesome." I hate that shit. They should have given D.J. a credit for directing 'Disturbia'.
Oh and one more thing. Wiseguy Shia is only on top of one guys list... Spielberg's. I don't hate on the guy, because, like fft pointed out, I don't know him personally. He's an ok actor, but he's very smart with sticking with Spielberg because he is going to get noticed. Look what Spielberg did for Tom Hanks. Shit. We should all be that lucky.

Spielberg Ready for 39 CLUES - Jun 25, 2008 - 07:01am
Yes! LOG LOG LOG!
Maybe the real creative juices from Steven "Hollywood Whore" Spielberg have gone. But does the guy need another money grubbing franchise? NO! I think Indy 4 was a "genre spanning" enough for me. When the aliens popped up I lost it. I would have like some indications and than have it end with everything being lost and the audience would have to decide for themselves where they went. If after watching 'The Lost Ark' you told me that decades from now they'll be sequels. One where Indy saves the cradle of life (actually a prequel), one where he finds the holy grail with his father, oh and one where meets aliens who were here long before us and were the ones that taught us to stand up straight and pick up a hoe and shovel. I'd spit at you and tell you, you were full of it. Anyways. I'm with you joey. I've got three kids and I guess I should start putting money aside for this now. Thanks for the warning Mania.
Waldau Captains Starship in VIRTUALITY - Jun 25, 2008 - 06:50am
It depends on if that "VR construct" is a sentient being. Meaning, does it have a choice but to pleasure you? If not than your answer would be yes joey-spank-my-baloney.
I remember this article coming up a couple of weeks ago. Yes this does sound like star trek, but Moore's proved himself in my book, so I'll give it a shot.
Two questions:
1. Does this mean that "New Amsterdam" isn't coming back?"
2. Do you think that they ended BSG because FOX yanked Moore away for this? The timing is suspicouos.
Brosnan, Cage Join Polanski's GHOST - Jun 25, 2008 - 06:42am
Of course hanso. Because he'd be arrested! I don't care about that shit, though. I don't know the man personally so it doesn't sway my opinion of his movies. I like most of what he's done. I thought 'The Ninth Gate' was kind of cool. Will wait for a trailer for this one due to the section in the article that states that most of the story takes place in a oceanfront house in the middle of winter ... zzzzzz
MORE COFFEE!
Chris Carter Leading FENCEWALKER - Jun 25, 2008 - 06:37am
Funny hanso! That's a good one.
I'm stoked about the X-files sequel. It's my next thing to look forward to, after The Dark Knight comes out of course! I like Carter's work, but has he done anything else, movie wise, than the X-Files movies? Is he trying to break free of this? Because it kind of comes across like he is using all of us. He dangles a sequel in front of everybody and then comes out with something like this. Maybe he contracted it with FOX. Watch. If you read that it's being done with FOX than you know he put this movie in his contract to do a sequel for them. I mean what else does it look like? Oh he's just been taking a break. I mean what's he done since 2002, besides some money grubbing X-Files DVD's? Nothing.
Not that I have anything against him. Maybe I came on too strong. It's still early for me. Let me put a little rum in my coffee here . . . . . . [SIIIIIIP] Ahh. Much better. Hair of the dog.
Update: Four New TV Spots for DARK KNIGHT - Jun 24, 2008 - 07:59am
Fuck!! I typed up some good comments than hit "ADD" and I got some shit about inhancing my ads or some shit then I hit "No Thanks" and the page reloaded and their gone. WHAT THE FUCK?!?!? Shit!
Well I can't remember everything I typed but it was basically: I love this. I love Batman. I love the Joker. I can't wait.
Fucking fix this problem! Nothing more frustrating!
New Pics Online For FURIOUS 4 - Jun 24, 2008 - 07:33am
All I gots to say is that both American Muscle and Import Speed have their places on the track. The first pic reminds me of 'The Road Warrior' with the beat to shit Monte Carlo and (I think thats a chick) in black leather and on the back of a tanker trailer. All that is needed is some barbwire.
I enjoyed the first movie but it carries a heavy weight. That being that it was the first of it's kind of movie. Many have come out since that tried to best it but , IMO, didn't come close. I liked the third installment because it seemed to want to be it's own movie and not a bastard child of the first like the second installment. I do like that the producers have kept up with the characters though. Introducing us to Brian and Dom, and his world, in the first installment. Then their was that little gap filler on the DVD that showed us how he got to Florida. Then the second showed us some of Brian's past and a little action. The third brought us a different perspective of street racing and with the small appearance of Dom at the end it tasted nice when it was all over. Let's see what this fourth has to offer. Because from the description it sounds like the same premice of the second movie. Kind of like the producers are giving us what we should have seen from the first sequel.
I'll be in the movie seat with my Rum for this one.
Two Genre Stories Eyed by Laika - Jun 24, 2008 - 07:18am
This is cool. Though I may not like THESE particular projects, I like where they are leading. I can't figure something out though. With the subject matter of the first two projects it would appear to be a hard PG-13 or R type CGI movie. Is there any indication for these Jarrod? Because with the main character being in their pre-teens, it's kind of confusing. I remember 'Heavy Metal' and there was the Den of Earth skit that had a teenager turning into a muscle bound stud getting tons of poon-tang and bashing in skulls. Obviously no children or teenagers were involved in the project because the boy was voiced by John Candy. You can see my confusion here. I'm hoping for an R CGI project soon and one that has zombies in it is always a fun concept.
New Concept Art for Zombie's T-REX Online - Jun 24, 2008 - 07:11am
As a fellow writer I have a lot of respect for guys who delve deep into their projects (Kevin Smith, James Cameron, Steven Spielberg, etc.) Zombie has found his niche and seems to enjoy it. As well as his fans irascible because Dimension Films is funding his "shit". They wouldn't back him if they didn't that they'd make any money.
On a personal note. I don't care much for his typical movies. I caught the first half hour of 'House of a 1000 corpses' and didn't like it. I did watch his version of 'Halloween' due to my love and respect for the franchise. I actually enjoyed his take and wish he would do more like that one.
I feel the same way though darkheart00. I enjoyed his music a WHOLE lot more. Keep cranking them out Zombie!
Sony Gives Fans a Taste of HORNET - Jun 23, 2008 - 08:47am
Right on WiseGuy!
But I'm in agreement with most of you guys. I'll wait and see a trailer. I'll admit that I'm not a huge fan of this series, so this movie will be my first honest attempt at this franchise. And I know I'm not alone with all the new generations out there since the Hornet was mentioned. To me it's kind of a spin from Batman, which I know is the other way around (Don't get your panities in a bunch!) but from MY perspective that's the way I, and a million others, see it. I think his first task- no make it his second cause his first will be trying not to look like a dufis- will be to seperate this character from another well known rich boy with a secret alter ego, Bruce Wayne.
As for Black playing GL . . . I love the guy's work but in the comic world? NO!!! Unless he's cast as a character that fits his persona and looks than go for it. Sometimes a persons love for something doesn't always make it right. I wanted desperatly to make it with the entire cheerleading squad in high school, that doesn't make it right that I stalked them for four years. (JK) If Black had a love for the comics that fine, but take a lesson from one of the biggest fanboys in Hollywood, Kevin Smith, and bow out with grace and let some other more talented people do it.
I've always like the Green Lantern and felt that his character was never explored enough in the comics. I mean a guy with thee most powerful weapon in the universe.... There's a lot of material there for a movie WBs get off your asses and put pen to paper. I'd like to see a trilogy here with all the lore the GL universe has to offer with all those little old dudes that gave him the ring and everything.
New Spy Photos for TRANSFORMERS Sequel - Jun 23, 2008 - 08:30am
Once again WiseGuy we are in total agreement. The cars are nice, but I want some badass bot-battles scenes, and a little slowed down this time. I mean Bay is known for his cheesy slow-mo shots to put a "dramatic" element into it (Bay's only form of drama) and then when the fun starts with bots it's all speeded up. I couldn't help but feel like he was hiding something. Like maybe the CGI work wasn't as good as anticipated so he sped it up, put some camera angles that showed partial bots battleing, and such. This isn't the first time that's it's happened (I'm not saying Bay does this all the time but that other director's have.)
On a side not that vette looks AWESOME! I'm a huge fan of the car and it has a sweet touch of the Stingray. But looking at this photo makes me think that it should be attached to a Batman tagline. Maybe it's the color but that front end is very reminiscent of the Bat.
IRON Hits $300 Mil Mark, INDY Close Behind - Jun 19, 2008 - 07:15am
First I'm glad they pushed Star Trek back. More time to make it good! And they better, those damn asshole have almost run it into the ground. My opinion of course, many will say that's already in the ground and heading towards the center of the Earth.
As for this. I'm happy to hear of IM's success. I honestly thought that Indy IV and Dark Knight (SHUT UP HANSO! I KNOW WHAT YOUR GOING TO SAY!) would be the big contenders this summer and figured that Jones would be pulling ahead of Batman ... But then I didn't count on Indy IV sucking so much. I bet the continued success of it is due to parents taking their kids to see. My kids loved it. They like the big adventure stuff almost as much as me. I am a little disappointed though, I really wanted 'The Incredible Hulk' to take off and be successful across the board *sigh* oh well BUT there's still 'The Dark Knight' to look forward to! (There you go hanso!)
More Set Photos for WOLVERINE Online - Jun 19, 2008 - 07:06am
This sounds cool and judging from the pics I do think they'll do a lot of good with Wolvie's past. A couple of questions though.
The statement: "Director Gavin Hood is going to introduce the character from childhood and eventually bridge the gap of the clawed superhero character to the events that took place in the original X-Men trilogy."
Question 1: Does this mean we'll get to see Elektra (the way she ought have been portrayed and not in that pretty boy 'Daredevil' movie)? I mean she was a pretty big love interest for Logan.
Question 2: If you bridge this gap then does that mean that they don't intend to do any sequels? Or are thinking that they can just use the character and continue on after the events of the X-Men trilogy?
Some things on my mind. Your input?
AFI Releases Top 10 Lists for Genre Classics - Jun 18, 2008 - 08:26am
This is pretty accurate. You have to read the criteria for why they picked these movies. Yeah Jurassic Park was a great movie and it spearheaded live action CGI into motion pictures and showed us all how ALIVE these dinosaurs could be, but there just dinosaurs and people running around screaming and being eaten. I'd put Close Encounters up there before Jurassic Park.
I'm with the rest of you guys and think that there were a couple of genres left out. Where's Comedy? I mean motion pictures were making us laugh before there was sound. WTF?
Abrams Looking for NY TREASURE - Jun 18, 2008 - 08:11am
Yeah, I'm with you almostunbiased. Although it's a true story, I'm sure Abrams is going to put some Hollywood spin on it and have the children in a situation that drives them to solve the clues to either save some one from mortal danger or help their parents financially. Those two of Hollywood's favorites when it comes to these types of stories.
Although with Abrams doing it maybe the children will realize the houses is actually a giant starship and the clues were leading them to the control panels, or that the clues are warnings about a giant monster that is hybernating underneath them. LOL
Spike Lee Leading Time TRAVELER - Jun 18, 2008 - 07:56am
Amen! Can I get an Amen!
Tell it on the mountain wiseguy562!
I like Spike Lee's movies, yeah they're a little preachy at times, but he's got more hits than misses. As far as him taking this project on ... I'm not sure if he is going the Sci-Fi route here or is this going to be biography piece?
BSG's Campbell Joins KNIGHT, Rambin Joins CONNOR - Jun 17, 2008 - 07:35am
I'm with you kwsupes. I wasn't sure about the whole time travel thing to put them in the presant time, but it did provide for some comedic moments as they were learning about the new wave of technology. I'm asuming that at some point they will be returning back to their original time due to the fact of Connor's age in the movies and the flashes of the future.
I think the REAL surprise here, if there is any, is that David "The Hoff" Hasslehoff is returning to the series. I thought he was just passing the torch in the premiere. I didn't think he'd be coming back. Does that mean we're going to see a new Baywatch spin off down the road and he'll play the father of one of the smokin' hot life guards who manages to get herself into relationship trouble episode after episode but still be happy enough to run along the beach, bouncing around.
.....
I think I have a pitch here... Look out Hollywood here I come... LOL
A question here. Does anybody know if Val Kilmer will be returning to the series as KITT's voice? I hope not. He didn't do it for me. It's one thing to watch a CGI movie where the actor/actress is voicing a character, because usually the character acts and looks a little like the voice actor themselves so it fits, but listening to Kilmer trying to be a sentient A.I. car . . . . nope. Couldn't get my mind around it.
Cage, Nighy & Sutherland Join ASTROBOY - Jun 17, 2008 - 07:20am
I don't know about this one. I've never really been a fan of the franchise. A little robot boy running around in what looks like 50's style jockeys? Ummm ... not for me. The poster does look cool though, but if you look close enough he's still in those little shorts. Maybe after a trailer I'll decide.
Stan Winston Passes Away at 62 - Jun 17, 2008 - 07:11am
This guy brought to life what I thought I would only see in my dreams. He brought all of our dreams to life, well maybe some nightmares too. Rest in peace Stan. I'm glad that he got the chance to build his own studio and pass on his god like touch of creation to other talented individuals. His genius will be missed on this next Terminator trilogy though. Whether it be good or bad I'm sure it's something that we can ALL agree on.
Director Alexander Talks PUNISHER - Jun 16, 2008 - 10:02am
fft5305 They usually aren't. Trailers are up to the studios. They either hire trailer producers or use the ones they have working for them to do teasers and trailers for their movies. I believe a lot of it has to do with the publicity contract that is drawn up when the movie is being put together. I don't know if you remember but when Cameron had the studios backing him for 'Titanic' he was very explicit in making sure the publicity was toned waaaay down. He wanted the movie to grow on it's own. Though Lexi wasn't aware of a teaser being released is a bit surprising. Maybe she needs to catch up on reading her email or something.
Whiskeymovie I think you're dead on. You're always going to have people bitching about everything.
"Not enough action!"
"Too much action!"
"Not enough character development!"
"Not enough -
That kind of shit. This teaser is too short and disjointed to make a good assumption on whether the movie will suck or not. Hell, when I saw the 'Daredevil' trailer it looked dark and gritty, but look what happened there. Then you have the flip side. I thought the trailers to 'Rambo' were "typical" from the previous mind-numbing 80's style action sequels. Turns out the movie was more, way more. I'm looking forward to this. I've only read about Punisher in comics when the character crossed paths with the ones I regularly read, so I don't have any expectations as to the MAX series or the original. I liked Thomas Jane and thought that he fit the type of Punisher that was created for that peticular film. Was he true to the comic character? Maybe not. But he was true to his character that was put in front of him. This type of passion and openness from a director is refreshing.
Hoeber Brothers Adapting DC's RED Comic - Jun 12, 2008 - 08:17am
You guys are right. I've always been more of a Marvel fan with the fact that my top ten favorite heroes are mostly Marvel. But I do enjoy me some DC and would like to see this universe explode on the big screen the same way Marvel has. I really have to believe that WB is holding up the line on people wanting to move forward with these projects. I don't know what their beef is? It's probably money. WHAT ELSE?! It's kind of funny but DC has always done good with their cartoon content, but when it comes to movies... I dunno. If their leery about the lack of fans or a disinterest from AverageJoe about some of DC ancillary characters then they should have them make cameos in their bigger projects and if people like them than go for it. I thought it was cool that Smallville was incoporating other characters into their show. Even if their kind of teenie-bopper and over dramatic. SHIT AT LEAST IT'S SOMETHING!!! Warner Brothers you need to SHIT or get off the pot. And by that I mean, if you aren't going to use the rights to these characters then sell them and let somebody else do it... god damn...
fft5305 you're right. All the way through. Marvel has MADE these characters interesting. I mean turning Spider-Man into a movie was a no-brainer, but Blade? How many people remember that character? I mean I do because I'm a geek for that shit. I still remember reading about Morbius and the team of vampire hunters that were always after him. But Marvel did good and turned it into a successful trilogy. Gotta give'em props. And WB needs to take notes.
Paramount and M.Night Shyamalan Previews LAST AIRBENDER - Jun 11, 2008 - 10:19am
velgron. You're saying that the show will be over after The Book of Fire is done? That sucks. And doesn't make sense on a profit stand point. Kind of backwards actually. Wouldn't the studio want to make more to keep the fanbase, and possibly increase it? When AverageJoe sees the trailer and such wouldn't the studio want them to look for the cartoon the movie is based on? How many cartoons have been based on a movie's success? Where, this time, it's the other way around. Doesn't make sense to me.
My kids and I have been waiting for this to be a movie for a while now. Hope they get it right. I like that M. Night thinks that this is the next 'Star Wars'. Those are some pretty high bars to jump over. And on a second note, does this mean he's going to dedicate the years needed to see a "Star Wars" type of project through? I hope so. I have no quams about his storytelling abilities, but we haven't seen anything like this from him before. ???
Waiting in anticipation.
New BABYLON A.D Trailer Online - Jun 11, 2008 - 10:08am
It's funny because this reminds me of a Riddick style movie. With the voice over by Vin and his self-preservation-until-he-finds-something-worth-dying-for attitude. Which is funnier because the one question that arose in my mind as I was watching the trailer was asked at the very end by the girl. "Why are you doing this for me?" Then it ends with no answer. I hope the movie isn't as shallow and creates a credible answer outside of the usual re-done bullshit. I like McClane's theroy. "Because there isn't anybody else to do it right now." "And that's what makes you that guy." A no nonsense answer.
This does look amazing, but then again with enough money backing a suburb team of CGI software engineers I can look just as amazing and dramatic while taking a shit... so here's to me hoping for a decent storyline.
New French Trailer for TRANSPORTER 3 - Jun 11, 2008 - 09:57am
This actually looked like a cross between 'The Transporter' and 'Crank'. With the style and fighting scenes and then the disorientation scene and the wrist braclet threatening his life. Not that I mind, I enjoyed both of those movies... for what they are: Adrenaline Action. Die Hard, Rambo, etc, these movies are action from a different era... back when they had more storyline. I never got into Segal or VanDamme so I won't get into that one. I do agree with the rest of you guys, Jason Stathom is a really good action star. I can't wait for 'The Brazilian Job' to come out. I was disappointed with 'War' though. As soon as I heard that Jet Li was in it too, I immediatly started thinking about all the intense action... but blahhhhh. Not so much. Oh well.
Columbia Bringing SMURFS To the Big Screen - Jun 10, 2008 - 08:21am
I could see this working with the success of Shrek and other CGI fantasy based films. I loved how Gargamel, and his lazy cat Azreal, were always thwarted by these miniature blue creatures. As a kid I would scream at him to just step on the little blue bastards. Yes, my parents were worried about me as a child.
If this is a success for the studio, I wonder if they'll try 'The Snorkels'? Remember them? They were like underwater smurfs that had snorkels on their heads.
Eastwood's CHANGELING Debuts Halloween - Jun 10, 2008 - 07:57am
Are you kidding joey? I can't tell. That sounds like an interesting movie, but from Eastwood? It sounds like a joke. Not that I don't think he could pull it off, it's just that it sounds beneath him. His whole career in Hollywood has been drama. Even being as old as he is, if I saw him in a dark alley way, I'd be running the other way. I mean the only thing close to a Sci-Fi flic that he's done is 'Space Cowboys'.
Dazzler I was wondering the same thing. Also, why is this movie getting a "Halloween" type release? It doesn't sound scary?
Sienna Guillory & 4 More to VIRTUALITY - Jun 10, 2008 - 07:23am
I agree.
This sounds like a rip off of both ST:TNG and Dr. Who. I like the Sci-Fi movies where a crew of a ship undergo periles. I'm not sure what they call it, but movies like Alien, The Abyss, Deep Star Six, and such. If this show is along those lines than I think I'd be bored after a couple of episodes. Maybe this is a mix of all the above.
But I'm with you joey. Moore's done an awesome job with BSG, but if he sold his soul for it's success does that mean this will be good? Or did the devil trick him and the rest of his life will be filled with crappy success, that being his "hell." Tasting the fruits of being on top than living the rest of his life trying to get back there.
Stacy Keibler Joins Six Hour SAMURAI GIRL - Jun 10, 2008 - 07:14am
LOL joeybaloney
That's the funniest one yet. I thought the same thing reading her name. LOL
I agree with the rest of you guys. I just did an google image search on her and now my keyboard is all sticky.
Besides being smoking hot, can any of us really get excited about this? I don't watch the ABC Family channel but I would think that I could get more excited if this show was going to be on FX or Spike or even Skinamax, but a Family channel? Sounds lame.
Leterrier Interested in HULK Sequel - Jun 10, 2008 - 07:00am
The Hulk character has been my favorite before I was able to read, from the television series. So, yeah, I liked Ang Lee's Hulk. I was happy that he finally got to be on the big screen. BUT I'm not ignorant to the mistakes that were made in the movie. After watching it in the theatre I knew a lot of people wouldn't like it, and I could see why. I'm hoping that this version is better. I would like to see more story development and deeper characters, like in the revamped Hulk comics. I've seen the new TV spot (the one with the *SPOILER* in it) and towards the end there's a scene where Dr. Ross suggests to Banner that they take a subway train because it's quikest and he replies, "me in a metal tube with hundreds of people in the most aggresive city in the world?" Then she replies, "you're right. Let's get a cab." HOKEY! Don't get me wrong, I like me some hokey moments but not with this character. Spider-Man is good with the hokey one liners, Robin, The Flash, Nighcrawler, and a couple of others that I can't think of right now are also, but not HULK.Here's to hoping for a decent movie that does the character justice and not just some vehicle for Marvel to deliver us an Avenger movie.
Sander's Happy Madison Launches GENRE Label - Jun 06, 2008 - 09:33am
Shortcut is a short story by Stephen King. It's not exactly the same as what they announced here, but it's too similar to not go unnoticed.
For those of you who don't know what it's about: It's about a woman who travels, by car, from her house in the big city to her house in the country. She seems to get an obsession about her traveling time from point A to point B. While in the country she has a guy who keeps her warm between the sheets and the story is told from his perspective. She shares her obsession of getting between points faster and faster by taking these crazy shorcuts. He starts noticing these odd bugs that end of splatted on the grill of her car. Suggesting that she's traveling to places that nobody is aware of. Her obsession grows from there and the story gets stranger.
So you can see the similarities that I speak of. I wonder if he'll get an Adaption credit for it. As for Sandler branching out, I'm all for it. The more the merrier. Whether their good or not, it will force the genre and the producers involved to put out a higher quality film. At least I hope.
New TERMINTOR Blog Launched with Concept Art - May 27, 2008 - 01:21pm
I'm with mlaforcer on this.
After seeing what Cameron did with what little he had and where he came from. I was inspired to get into the movie business as a teenager, from watching 'The Terminator'. I have several reasons to be upset at what has been happening with this franchise.
-I don't like the fact that Warner Bros. got a hold of it. They seem to be fucking up with just about everything that's run across their table (except with Batman and I think somebody sold their soul for that success.)
-I could care less what a person calls themself. So BASED ON PREVIOUS WORK I can make an educated guess in that McG does not have the experiance to balance a Sci-Fi trilogy of this magnitude ("magnitude" meaning that he's coming in after a LOT of precedances have been established and has very TALL shoes to fill.) Do I think he's going to fail? I can't say since he's never done this kind of project before.
-I could go on and on about how FUCKING STUPID it is to make this a PG-13 rating (you can read my other comments on this when the subject was first announced) but all I have left to say is that it's a slap in the face and a kick to the testicles from the studio. You don't get more blatent disregard for the fans than this. They should have just released a press announcement stating: "We here at Warner Bros. don't give a shit about the fans of this franchise. We want to lower the rating so that we can get more coverage on the Disney, Cartoon, Nickelodeon Networks, sell toys, games, lunch boxes, underwear, to all the kids. We, the executives, would like to purchase another villa in Tuscani and believe this will cover it."
-I hate how people in Hollywood proclaim their devotion to a projects previous work by watching previous episodes, reading the comic books, reading the novel, studying the actors previous talent, etc. It doesn't matter how much craming you do before a test. If you've got it than you got it. If not then it doesn't matter. Joel Schumacher could have watched nothing but Tim Burton movies, read all the Batman comics in existance for five years and I believe his movie still would have sucked.
But despite all this I don't hope that this franchise fails. I hope one or more people sell their souls to the dark one and it turns out to be awesome. I've waited to fucking long to see this part of the Terminator universe to be served a large steaming pile of Warner Bros.
Sam Niell, Sean Bean and Ackland Find NBC's Crusoe - May 23, 2008 - 10:18am
Yeah. But then they'd be ripping off 'Cast Away' LOL
What I was trying to say was that when something good gets going on TV there is usually one or two more show that try to capture some of it's spotlight. And then tank.
Three More for 24 Prequel Movie - May 23, 2008 - 06:43am
Is this something that is supposed to come out this summer? Or is it one of those lead-ins to get people "caught up"? I want to make sure I don't miss this. I'm just glad that it's coming back. I wonder if, when the show's done with years from now, will the box set skip a number in the sequence of seasons? Would look funny on my shelf.
Sam Niell, Sean Bean and Ackland Find NBC's Crusoe - May 23, 2008 - 06:36am
Sounds like a Lost rip off. Unless Lost is a rip off of this? I didn't read the book or see any movies of this so I'm not sure. But the whole "flashback to tell a back story of why the character is the way they are" is half of what Lost is all about. So if there weren't any flashbacks in the book than I'd say they were ripping off the idea and might get people comparing the two shows. Which can be bad.
Common Joins Freedom Fighters in TERMINATOR - May 07, 2008 - 06:39am
KIMBO SLICE? Are you kidding? No way Hollywood puts him in anything, unless it's a role as a gangster. First he'd have to shave off the beard... then cover up the tats... then get plastic surgery for his belly button, because it looks like a huge ZIT. Even after all that, I'm not sure SkyNet can make Terminators with dark skin. Maybe when the planet got nuked all the materials make darker skin got burned up. Not to be racist, but we just haven't seen any black Terminators... now that I think about it I don't remember seeing any black survivors of judgement day at all. Maybe SkyNet was a program designed by a bunch of Neo-Nazis to ride the planet of anything and anybody that didn't look like them. Think about it. SkyNet builds a Terminator that has a thick Austrian accent. Hmmmm...
Anyhow. Glad the paragraphs are back. Now what's this I hear about the Avengers on Yahoo?
TERMINATOR 4 is PG-13? - May 05, 2008 - 09:06am
Ok. I've gotta chime in here. There are too many of you guys thinking this isn't a big deal. First of all if you think back correctly T2 had quite a few gory moments I mean the T-1000's main weapons were BLADES! What do you think he did with those? Work at Benihana's? You don't remember what he did to the foster dad? Or the security cop, who was getting coffee? And NO! You couldn't just cut those scenes out or "dumb" them down because Cameron put them in full view for us to see just how UNHUMAN, COLD, and CALCULATING. They are. Remember back in T1 what Kyle Reese said? "They can't be reasoned with or bargained with. They kill, that's all they DO!" As for T3, there should have been more gore, BUT there was still some. What the TX did to her fiance and when she decided that the cops were no longer usfull she didn't have them stop the car and throw them out she STABBED HER ARM THROUGH THE DUDE TO REACH THE FUCKING STEERING WHEEL. The shortest distance between two points in a straight line (unless you bring in wormhole technology). These are the things that need to be seen. Speilberg thought the same thing when doing 'Scheindler's List' and 'Saving Private Ryan'. Imagine those movies with a PG-13 rating. Would they've had the same impact? NO!!! This next trilogy is WAR!!! people not one or two terminators traveling back in time to surgically prevent a future event. I want to see a mass landscape with these robots taking on thousands of troops. I want to see them tossing all the dead bodies in huge heaps and burning them with out care. We have to see what transforms John Conner into this, "great military leader." We've seen three movie so far with John fighting against what he is to become. Only to realize at the end of T3 that judgement day couldn't be prevented. PANT PANT PANT Ok I'm done. If this is to happen then I'm waiting for the unrated version on Blu-Ray to see it. Fuck the man and his almighty greed for $$$.
Exclusive: NYCC Incredible Hulk Interviews & Panel - Apr 22, 2008 - 12:12pm
Dazzler, I'm sure you're not alone in your opinion there, but I think I'd be safe in saying that on THIS comment board you might be outnumbered. IMO I like what Marvel is doing by creating it's own comic-hollywood universe and taking little tad-bits from TV, movies, comics, etc... I wasn't aware of this Frank guy who seems to have the most awesome job ever. I think it's a good thing that there is one guy involved in all of the Marvel movie projects. That way, like he stated, we'll get to see some continuity in all these movies without dampening the "non-fan" base so that the studios will allow it. It'd be cool to see the super-soldier formula making it's way in and out of other Marvel movies leading up to an all out Avengers Movie. It took Hollywood long enough to get the idea and to let the fanboys take the reigns. I'm just glad I'm alive to see it done right.
Aja Talks PIRANHA 3-D - Apr 18, 2008 - 07:41am
AlpineWoods, you need a little schooling friend. James Cameron was the man behind the special effects and such. The sequel was his first directing project. 3D BOOBS!? Why hasn't anybody else thought of this yet? (meaning the porn industry) This guys a genius if he can pull it off... all the girls shirts! oh . . . WOOP WOOP!
BSG's Moore Has New Sci-Fi Trilogy - Apr 18, 2008 - 07:33am
I'm all for this, with one exception. As long as Cruise doesn't put himself as the main character in it. Hate that guy.
Columbia likes IRON JACK - Apr 18, 2008 - 06:34am
I'm going to agree with nrollins. Indian Jones got started because of George Lucas' love for the matinee serials and pulp magazine heroes of the early 1900's. So you could go even further in saying that they ALL are "ripping" from THAT. BUT since none of these are a direct "copy" from anything in that era, I don't think that it's entirely accurate. I do admit, though, that they're timing is suspect in trying to "cash-in" on Indiana's coat tails, like every other Hollywood studio does when a potentially big project is being released like 'Armaggedon' and 'Deep Impact' or 'Mission to Mars' and 'Red Planet' for example. I say go for it. If it sucks then we won't see sequels, but if it's good then that gives us, action adventure fans, more to enjoy.
Kilmer Leads Four in Streets of BLOOD - Apr 18, 2008 - 06:24am
Val did the voice of KITT in the new Knight Rider series. I don't know if he would've continued doing it if the series was picked up, though. Does anybody know if it WAS picked up? I haven't heard anything. I like Val as well and might see this, but flint is right, it does sound like K-Ville. Unless they do it right after where the city and it's people were still in the wake of the disaster. K-Ville was taking place a little while after all that and the cops were trying to clean it up and make their presence known.
In the Name of the King - Apr 17, 2008 - 07:09am
I never blame actors for being in certain moveis. There are soooooo many reasons that actors play in movies. From gobs of money being thrown at them, to being under contract, to just trying to keep their name out there. But I won't deny the fact that some actors do just make bad choices in movies.
That being said. I would think that as soon as an actor sees the name Uwe Boll on anything they would run for the hills and hide in the trees. I mean... COME ON! I know some directors have started out bad and then turns out that they were just learning but this guy... You'd think he does this shit on purpose with the style he does his movies in. I believe he would turn in a steamy pill of crap even if the budget was 200 million and he had the best team of stunt men, set crews, costume designers, etc.
Harrison Ford Open to a Fifth INDIANA - Apr 17, 2008 - 06:47am
FINALLY!!! I'm able to post comments here!
Give me more Jones! I don't care they are on number 9 and Indiana is on his death bed telling Shia about an unobtainable legend to start the adventure off. I love the down home fun and mishaps of these movies.
New Updates for WOLVERINE - Apr 10, 2008 - 07:45am
WISEGUY562 it seems that I'm always in agreement with you. LOL your response was funny.
I agree. fft5305 I hope that was a joke. Those twins were so lame. Everytime I watched the superfriends, as a child, I would hope somehow that they would be killed off, and that it would be bloody. I also hoped that the monkey would gain all of the superfriends powers and kick all their asses. ANY appearance of ANYTHING resembeling those twins will ruin it for me. Even if I hear that WB used drag-queens for ALL of the female super heroes, or all male super heroes were running around in fashionably colored banana-hammocks instead of their suits, or the entire plot can be written out with a #10 Sharpie Marker (the really fat ones) on a cocktail napkin, I'd still at least view it via DVD that I borrowed from a neighbor, network television, or through binoculars while spying on the hot chick from across the street. BUT if they put those Wonderless Twins in there I'm out.
As to the answer of my question relating to larkcall's "point": that's kind of silly. I can't see the people in control of this situation over in Australia making their decision based on what they're fans of. It's all about the $$$. Whose got it and who wants it.
Again, I'm agreeing with WISEGUY562, and want them to bring production of these movie back home. People here need jobs too!
New Updates for WOLVERINE - Apr 10, 2008 - 06:39am
larkcall are you making a point, or just stating a fact? Confused on that.
I'm looking forward to this, even though I think it's a little backwards, like putting the cart before the horse, with coming out with X-Men movies. But Marvel has redeemed itself with it's current movie releasing philosophy and maybe, please god, maybe after a few of these "origin" movies, enough years have gone by and then we'll all get the X-Men movie we want. That being said, I'm definitly looking forward to an avengers movie, even if it's 10 years from now.
DC on the other hand... All I can figure out is that they want to release the JLA movie to spark interest in the ancillary characters and use it as a test to see if putting out a Flash, Green Lantern, Aquaman, Wonder Twins (oops I don't think that's being considered... who knows...), Wonder Woman, etc movies will be bankable or not. That's what I think. I'll bet you all that once the JLA movie comes out and is received by audiences, whether it be good or bad, we'll start hearing about those other projects going forward into full production.
Paramount Unveils First EYE Pic - Apr 10, 2008 - 06:27am
Well... Shia is looking a little older with the scruffy peach fuzz on his face. I'm not going to make ANY comments on him personally. I don't want to be responsible for the landslide of Shia bashing AND praising.
I enjoyed 'Disturbia' for what it was and will probably rent this movie as well.
Disney's 10 Animated Films To 2012 - Apr 09, 2008 - 12:48pm
I'm going to chime in and put my vote down for another Incredibles movie. I thought that they did a great job with it and left everybody wanting more. I mean with the whole Jack Jack having totally cool powers and the family team-up dynamic!!! Come on Disney WTF!? Get your heads out of your- I'm getting too worked up.
I thought Cars was stupid, in sooooo many ways, but my kids loved it so I can see the $$$ there, but would figure that Disney would want more $$$$ and make an Incredibles 2 because your audience is MUCH wider- oop, there I go again.
As for Tinker Bell being hot: I agree. I banged her. My girlfriend was Tinker Bell for Halloween two years ago, I was an inmate on death row (bald head, shackles, orange jumpsuit with numbers stenciled on the front, and three-day-beard) and I was tapping the dust off of that bell like it was my last conjugal before getting the chair.
I vote, also, for another Tron. It would be cool to see an reimagining of the world that is in our computer systems (and not like The Matrix.)
Justin Marks Penning HACK/SLASH - Apr 09, 2008 - 10:33am
ponyboy76 you really need to read your own posts before replying.
"And I can`t really get excited about a scribe who`s previous screenplay was Street Fighter: Legend of Chun Li, especially since it Kristin Kreuk in the lead."
Your exact words, even with the spelling and grammer errors. So how is one to interpret this comment. Now I can understand if you replied with a, "I worded this wrong, that's not what I meant." But you replied:
"Some of you guys need to actually read posts properly. At no point did I blame Justin Marks for anything."
You need to take your own advice because your first comments have implications written all over it. One of which is that Justin Marks isn't that good at his job because the project he's working on is starring somebody you don't like. Which further implies that you don't believe he'll do a good job on this project as well.
Now to clear up any misinterpretations of what I'm saying. I'm not saying your opinion of him is that he sucks and everything he does will suck, even this adaptation. But on the other side I'm not saying that your opinion of him is that he'll turn this project into a successful one, either. So whatever is in the middle is what I'm referring to. And it's because, according to your post, you don't like Kristen Kreuk (Who I think will be an awesome Chun-Li for this project.)
Seperatly. I like your thinking WISEGUY562. You make a very good point with everybody trying to pick apart the continuity issues with something of this magnitude. They are better off creating their own.
Justin Marks Penning HACK/SLASH - Apr 09, 2008 - 07:38am
I'm getting tired of this. Some of you guys need to read up on how movies are made. Or maybe pick up an official copy of a script from a movie that you've seen. In most cases, when a movie goes bad, it's the director. A script won't describe how the set should look, where to point the camera, what to focus on, what the actors should be wearing, who the roles should be played by, (I could go on and on...) In this case, Justin Marks, should have an easy time with this project, unless the studios are pulling his strings, and since THEY brought him in to finalize a script it just might be. But you don't blame him for whose in it or the way it looks. You want an example than just take a look at the Star Trek movies. There's a perfect case of studio direction over screenwriter direction.
As for the second subject. I'd love to see a montage of famous horror icons being beaten and out witted by this duo... but sadly... it won't happen. Too many studios and character rights and bullshit red tape to go through. I haven't read these books yet, but I plan too, and wonder if these villains are in the books. Does anybody know? If so did they have to get rights for it? I don't know how that stuff translates to comic books or even novels. I guess the only other avenue to go would be to make up new villains that terroize the townsfolk and then Hack can do her stuff. Just won't have the same impact and fun, at least for me, than if she were to be battling Jason's brute strength and power to regenerate, or Freddy's wit and mystical dream powers, or Michael's unbreakable will and the ability to chase after one person regardless of his obsticles, etc...
I guess the only solution to this problem would be if Warner Brothers had purchased the rights to this instead of Universal.
Beattie Completes a HALO Spec - Apr 02, 2008 - 11:20am
I agree hanso. Metroid was, and still is, one of the best video game franchises from Nintendo. I'd love to see a CGI heavy Sci-Fi version of Samuses journey through space and her battles with the Metroids. There is a TON of content there to play with. Not to mention that she's a total babe (as far as video games go).
The other video game franchise I'd like to see is Zelda. But I know that Nintendo would probably do it all kiddie friendly. I'd like to see it done in the same vein as the Rings trilogy. That'd be cool.
As for this video game adaptation, I'm impartial since I've never played it and probably won't since it's a Micrsoft product, and I won't sucome to their corporate monoply tactics and buy into their game system. If the movie looks good and you guys give it your blessing then I'll go see it.
Two Face Update for DARK KNIGHT - Mar 26, 2008 - 11:25am
It seems that Nolan and Goyer are doing to comic book icons what should be done to the rest of them. I like the fact that they're setting up the characters prior to they're middle ring debut.
On a seperate note: What ever happened with Dr. Curt Connors in 'Spider-Man 3'? I mean they'd been setting his character up for two movies. I was expecting him to become more of the major story and turn himself into the Lizard. I would've picked the Lizard more over the Sandman. Anyhow, I just thought that it was a waste to NOT utilize the character.
It seems that Nolan and Goyer aren't having that problem. I would like to see their version of Bane. But that probably wouldn't work until a few more crazies have been introduced so that Bane can free them all and sit back while Bats stretches himself thin catching them all AND then striking at the most opportune moment to take down the mantle of the bat. But it would be a KICKASS MOVIE! The ONLY time I would like to see all those villains in one movie.
Also, I'd be surprised if Bale came back for more. Since he's already contracted to do three Terminator movies as John Connor. He'd never get a break between releases.
That's A Wrap for DRAGONBALL - Mar 25, 2008 - 08:49am
Azul, I think somebody's been switching the keys on your keyboard around. You're not making any sense.
As for this movie... I don't know. I'm going to have to say that I'm going to be walking into the theatre, if I decide to see it, taking on the role of "Average Joe." I don't know anything about this series. For once I can give an opinion on a movie from a total non-fan stand point. I figure that there's going to be a LOT of CGI work since they just wrapped up the principal photography and are planning on a release of one year from now. All that time in post-production usually means that they need to finish the film on the computer.
But from what I've read here, I am interested in the project. Be waiting for a trailer.
TROPIC THUNDER Trailer Online - Mar 18, 2008 - 06:42am
This looks awesome! I'm there! This movie has everything I love about movies, comedy, action, overly-dramatic-acting, epic scope, war, gritty realism, etc. I love it! I like the actors in this and the spoofing on Hollywood's eccentricities to make realistic movies. And finally a good role for Nick Nolte. Anytime I see Nolte or Busey playing a burn-out war vet it's been a good casting call. Wether it's a serious role or a funny one. I like how gritty they make the jungle look, like it's actually dirty, which it is. But if you watch movies like Rambo II you'd think differently. I mean how do they keep themselves so clean? Are a canister of Klean Wipes a part of a one-man-army's gear? Don't get me wrong I loved the movie for what it was but that fact made me laugh.
Anyhow-
This is going to be good. It's like they're trying to act over the top, which is easy for Stiller and Black.
Paramount Grabs MONSTER Zoo - Mar 12, 2008 - 10:55am
I'd have to agree aegrant. The 80's are over. The rag-tag group of young misfits has been played out. I can see a situation where a group of teens get locked in and have to ban together to get out a live.
I'd like to see Raimi do the writing with his brother and get some of that goofiness that we got with the Evil Deads put in.
So now Hollywood is stalking writters and optioning material BEFORE it's even published? I hope they wait to see if it's successful. Probably not.
SUPERMAN Sequel Begins Script Phase - Mar 12, 2008 - 07:29am
As a hard core fan of the hero, I can say that I enjoyed SR for what it was. I knew, going into the theatres, what to expect. It has always been the same over the years. Anytime Hollywood tackles, an already established character or universe in another medium, they have to introduce it to Joe Public and asume they know nothing about it. Now, granted, some franchises were handled better than others in this area.
The next sequel should have a little bit of all that's been mentioned here.
-Lex Luthor should reestablish himself by buying out, or hostile takeover, a strong manufactoring company that makes defense equipment.
-The bad guy has to be Superman's equal in strength.
There are several ways this could go, obviously. I would like to see Lex, being hellbent on destroying the one man who stands in his way for eventual global domination, develop Metallo. This way we could see Superman destroying the crap out of an army of prototypes and then Lex claiming it all a malfuntion in their programing and going the cybernetic route, but end up using an inmate for a prototype, who happens to hate Supes and wants revenge. This formula has been well established in the comic world and Hollywood and could work here.
Another angle would be Brainiac. But having someone develop him, ala Terminator, would be dumb. He's definitly gotta come from outer space. So here we can see Superman doing something out there, whatever it may be, getting the attention of Brainiac, who happens to be doing a scanner sweap of the area and detects Superman's supior physique. Brainiac comes to Earth to assimilate Supes and while he's here decides to consume Earth's inhabitants and low-tech engineering for energy to continue the battle against Supes, puting all of humanity in danger. Which has been done before in Superman II but this will put it on a more epic scale. And we can see some awesome battles take place all over the globe and maybe even take place on the moon or Mars so that no more damage befalls his beloved planet. In the background we can Lex rising up in corporate world and be a serious threat in the next sequel.
My Two Sense
Damon & Greengrass Talk BOURNE 4 - Mar 10, 2008 - 10:03am
I think that you are ALL right. The last three was very well rounded and finished itself nicely. No loose strings or plots.
To do another one would really warrant another trilogy. With the effort of the first three and the entire story spanning the trilogy a lone fourth film would come off as a desperate attempt at making money off of the success of the first three. The Die Hard and Rambo series were all individual movis centered around one character, and maybe one or two ansilary characters. To be done right it would have to be another trilogy and I think the ideas mentioned above would be perfect.
-Bourne older and settled into a new life.
-An old or new enemy gunning for Bourne.
-Bourne defending his new life, whiling fighting off this new threat.
-Bourne loses new life and is presumed dead.
-Bourne comes back and hunts enemy to no end.
Sounds kind of "re-done" but these are the things that worked before so naturally they'll work again.
Kunis Helps Wahlberg in MAX PAYNE - Mar 10, 2008 - 09:52am
As a big fan of the video game, I'm very excited about this. Maybe hollywood is learning from they're mistakes. Bruckhiemer's 'Prince of Persia' project sounds like it's shaping up. Despite a lot of hatred towards Kreuk as Chun Li, I think that she'll do it justice and the movie will be better than 'D.O.A.' (gots to have FAITH.) With Wahlberg in front of this and behind it, I believe he can pull it off. His movies 'The Corruptor', 'The Departed', and 'Four Brothers' has shown us his diversity and ability to get down and dirty.
As far as the John Woo thing rgtchitiger, you are definitely right. With the 'Bullet Time' and the jumping to the side while blazing two 9mm and other aspects of the game it would appear that they aimed for Woo's earlier look. Which is why I don't think that Woo could do this. He has drastically moved away from his earlier style and taken on a more American-Eye-Candy-Pop-Corn look. I know he's currently doing a movie in Hong Kong so I hope that he goes back to his roots with it.
Snyder Reveals WATCHMEN Characters - Mar 06, 2008 - 06:53am
You may be on to something there ponyboy76. Get Snyder to do the remake/reimagining of X-Men. He can do a more gritty version. I like Snyder because he comes across as one of those directors that only does the projects he's passionate about and gets to have complete creative control. If you guys haven't already you should see all the behind the scenes footage to his 'Dawn of the Dead' remake. Snyder is in all of it. From the CGI shots, to the gross-out make up, to sound mixing, he's involved in all of it putting his touches and unique vision on the whole project.
Reminds me a lot of some of the greats. I'm going to see this even though I know nothing about it and haven't read the comic book, but just because he's involved. When I heard that he was doing Miller's 300 I was very skeptical and after the movie had to eat a LOT of crow to all my friends.
I've learned my lesson and I'll be there in the front row.
DARK OZ Trilogy in the Works - Mar 03, 2008 - 08:59am
I'm with you Frozen. I remember watching 'Return to Oz' and finding it a little bit more enjoyable than the first. I believe, after watching it, I went to the library and found a small series of books that also expanded off of the first Oz movie and having darker overtones, but not like 'Pan's Labyrinth' more like the later Harry Potter books.
If done well this could be cool. I'm hoping for an R trilogy but will be happy with a hard PG-13. The same goes for the revisioning Alice movie, whenever that gets off of the ground.
Johnson Saves The TOOTH FAIRY? - Feb 27, 2008 - 10:29am
Yeah he had to pay Vince for the use of the name because Vince owns the character rights. That comes from Johnson in an interview. It wasn't until 'Gridiron Gang' that he started using Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson as a credit so that his movie fans would get used to his real name for when his contract with WWE ended and he would be just Dwayne Johnson. Vince was Executive Producer on all of his early movies because of the contract he had on him. Very similar to cast members of Saturday Night Live. When they go do movies you'll notice that Lorne Michaels is usually an Executive Producer on the project until the actors contract ends and they thing they can make it in the movie business.
As far as Johnson doing more family comedies... I still have a bad taste in my mouth from when Arnold did 'Jingle All The Way'. God that sucked. I just hope he doesn't make a habit of this and goes back to action movies or even action comedy. I thought that 'The Rundown' was very good.
Von Sydow Plays Doctor at SHUTTER ISLAND - Feb 26, 2008 - 07:58am
I think I may have an answer for you Whiskey. Because "chicks" have the physical appeal but will fizzle out of Hollywood if they don't aquire acting appeal, like all the other hasbeens from tv shows. Where guys don't. Their looks may make the girlie-teenie boppers squel but they grow out of it and stop watching shows and movies for just that reason. This insight comes from my daughter, who is turning fourteen next month, and told me this when I asked her why she doesn't watch those girlie shows she used to watch. She wants more depth. So now she watches shows with me like Chuck, 24, Lost, Bones, etc.
Hope that helps you Whiskey. On to the subject at hand. I've liked Von Sydow since I first saw him as King Osric in Conan the Barbarian. He's up there with the late Richard Harris. It's a bummer that he's getting older and will probably start slowing his career down.
WB Splits TERMINATOR Rights with Sony - Feb 26, 2008 - 07:39am
First of all I need to say that I'm a HUGE fan of this mythos that Cameron created and WILL see this in theatres.
When I heard that a third movie was going to be made I almost crapped myself and peed a little with excitment. Then I heard that Cameron wasn't going to be a part of it but the studio was going to go forward without him and I was pissed. Then I heard that Arnold wasn't going to be a part of the project if Cameron wasn't and I was happy again, thinking that the project would cumble. Then I heard that Arnold changed his mind, because the money was right, and I was out protesting the making of the sequel. But my buddies and I went to the movies to see something and wanted to hop into #3 and I figured since I wasn't paying for it I would see it. I am one of those people that admits when he's wrong and I will go on record saying that I enjoyed it. The part where the T-850 reboots and adjusts his torn head bugged me because it was too CGI, but other than that I liked the direction it took and I was satisfied with it. It proved to me that it could be done without Cameron. So I'm keeping an open mind with this one, even though McG is not my first pick (actually he wasn't even on my list), but he could surprise us all. I am excited to hear that Cameron has taken some interest in this and throwing some advice into the project. I aslo like Bale and think he'll be a really good Connor. I've liked everything he's been in and think that he can do justice to the character that has been building up for decades. I'm really hoping that these next three sequels will close the loop. Though I'm not sure where it should close.
Question: Is the tv series going to effect the sequels? Because we've already seen a lot of flashforwards showing us some of the gaps created by the first movie.
The Blob Has Been Cast for WOLVERINE? - Feb 25, 2008 - 10:35am
SonyMan you need to stop drinking the BONG WATER.
As for the serious posts. I don't think so, at least not in the way that you are referring to. I could see a mutant that might have the ability to control animals, kinda like Aquaman, but then again it sounds kinda weak... then AGAIN the X-Men had Dazzler and her little light shows were pretty usless... so... Who knows. I agree with Boxoffice. The Weapon X project didn't just use Wolverine. And I'm sure that, after Logan escapes, they'll probably be sending a couple of "fluff" muties to capture him so that we can see him kicking some ass. I mean it's cool to see him make fools of cops and normal folk, but we've seen that already. I want to see him do some serious damage to some threatening mutants. Sabertooth is obviously his arch-nemisis here and will probably result in a elongated fight sequence for the final battle. So I'm not to worried about the amound of mutants. Then again maybe they're thinking of a franchise here and they're looking to set up other key players for the sequels.
On a side note. I don't like the way Hollywood usually has the good guy killing, or permanantly disabling, the protaganists. For those of us that read comic books we know that these bad guys, for the most part, are always coming back and if they were that easy to get ride of then the evil doers wouldn't be that evil, would they. IMHO when Hollywood knows that they're looking at a three-picture deal, like Spider-Man, then they should have had Eddie Brock aka Venom's character being setup in the background and pop in here and again, like he does in the comics. You can have the other "fluff" enemies so that the hum-drum audience can get a sense of closure and not feel obligated to see the sequel or feel that they got jipped because they paid for a movie and all they got was a "part 1" (like the whining babies did with Pirates of the Carribean 2. I mean come on, you know there's going to be a third and since it's the second movie you all should know what it's about, genre wise. I just don't understand). Back to... Then when us fanboys go and see the third movie we don't feel rushed into an enemy that is suposed to be one of Spider-Man's biggest villains. Since dealing with him before he would know what to expect and therefore giving us a longer and more indepth fight scene with a more meaningful ending leaving everybody with a feeling of acomplishment. In the end you would have three seperate movies but together one main story. That's what comics are about. And I know that's why I liked X-Files so much.
My two cents.
Hutchison Talks PUNISHER:WAR ZONE - Feb 25, 2008 - 08:24am
You lost me there Sonyman. But I gotta say that, for '89, yes Lundgren's version was good. But I thought that Jane did and equal job, for what he was given. You gotta remember that it's not all on the actor's shoulders how a movie turns out. I too thought that it was a waste film stock to show us Castle working on his armored hot rod just to f&$k it up in a short time. With the comments, made here and in other articles, this sounds like a similar situation as with what Marvel's doing to the Hulk. The first Punisher (with Thomas Jane) would have been good if it was grittier, didn't have the detailed origin story and just relied on flashbacks (as when he was introduced in the comics), and Travolta was not involved. I thought that 'Man on Fire' was more of a "Punisher" than anything else. I'm eager for a trailer on this new installment.
My two cents.
First Footage from X-FILES 2 - Feb 25, 2008 - 06:25am
Very funny Whiskey. I'll agree with you on the Oprah thing. You get the right audience and they'll do anything you want, cheer, laugh, clap, etc. I also don't get the clapping thing at the end of a movie. I remember a few years ago there was a movie that people started clapping to and it turned out that the credits didn't role because there was five more minutes of movie left. That was funny.
Anyhow. This looks cool. I like that they're not rebooting the alien conspiracy thang. I think that it's been beat to death. Can't wait to see it. I don't know who owns the rights to this franchise but they could do a Bond thing with the X-Files. It doesn't always have to be Mulder and Scully. Though I do wonder how Carter is going to deal with the fact that they were both nation wide fugitives at the end of the series. Maybe that's why they're in Vancouver?
Eric Bana Talks STAR TREK Role - Feb 12, 2008 - 12:23pm
I actually don't have much to say on this subject, except, "who cares?" For me this falls along the lines of the fluff that the press and studios like to put out that to start the buzz going, or keep it going. I mean he really has nothing pertinent to say about the movie or his character. I know they are keeping it under tight wraps, and JJ knows how to do that, but I think this project is something a whole lot different than anything else he's done. Good Luck!
A side note, not related to this whatsoever. Variety reported that the actor was the voice for K.I.T.T., that we heard in the commercials, is no longer involved due to "contractual obligations" and the studio is going with Val Kilmer to do the voice. Not sure how I feel about that. When I read this SUNDAY I popped in Red Planet to see if I could get a good idea of what to expect. Undecided. They might take his voice and digitize it to sound more authentic like they did with William Daniels. I remember, way back, hearing him talk at some press conferece when Universal opened up the Knight Rider attraction and thinking to myself how familiar he sounded but couldn't place it, till they made reference to his character. Who knows. I'm sure I'll have a decision come Sunday.
First Trailer for STREET KINGS - Feb 12, 2008 - 12:02pm
I'm with the rest of you guys.
But that aside, why is this news worthy of this site? I've seen several updates on this movie and thought that there was a fantasy/sci-fi angle there somewhere. Nope. Just curious.
IRON MAN SB Spot Online - Feb 04, 2008 - 06:47am
EXACTLY!!!
Don't get me wrong, the game was good, in the fourth quarter, and some of the tv spots were funny, especially the FedEx commercial with the giant pigeons, but to be honest the only reason I set DVR to record the game was so that I could catch the teaser for 'The Incredible Hulk'. What happened to that?! A little- no, very disappointed.
As for this movie; I can't freakin' wait. This summer's line-up is going to have us fanboys camped out at the theatres ALLLLLLLLLL summer. These movies are going to make up for all the f$%k ups that Hollywood has put out claiming that they're based on the comics. Regardless of personal views about some of them that were done in the past, I think after the summer is over we're ALL going to be in agreement on these movies. Marvel going off on their own was the best decision, I just hope DC follows suit and drops WB.
CONAN Still on Hold? - Jan 30, 2008 - 06:59am
That was a joke right, whiteknight? I mean, I love the guy, I'm a huge fan of Arnolds. My girlfriend accusses me of having a man-crush on him and I'll admit that all three times I've met him I could barely speak, like a little school girl getting asked to the prom buy the cutest and most popular boy in school. But, "acting chops?" Arnold isn't "Arnold" because of his "acting chops." I don't think that, actually I know, that the producers of the two Conans didn't look at Arnold because of his acting ability. Now don't start hating on me, I do believe he has acting ability and I think that The Rock would be on par with this. I mean he didn't do that bad with 'The Scorpion King'. Given a good script with some top notch stunts and a director with the right frame of mind for this, then this movie could be a franchise for everybody involved. I thought that The Rock did really good in 'The Rundown'. That kind of character with some Samarian-I-don't-give-a-shit-if-you're-a-king-or-bigger-than-me-cause-all-my-people-were-wiped-out-and-I'm-gonna-kick-your-ass-and-chop-of-your-head kind of attitude sprinkled on top would be perfect.
Y: THE LAST MAN Trilogy Coming? - Jan 30, 2008 - 06:44am
I don't think it's a fanboy hate, in the manner to which you speak ponyboy76, but that he is a douche. He is arrogant and thinks that he is deserving. This kind of pisses a lot of people off BECAUSE he is average looking (for Hollywood that is) and most people would be greatful and appreciative of their success where he thinks it's expected. Then to hear that directors are lining him up with projects and producers want him in several of their films, it's like telling everybody that he's right for acting this way. This isn't a bash against his acting ability. I do think that he has done well with what he's been given.
I for one DO NOT think that he is like Tom Hanks. Hanks worked his ass off to get to where he's at and even had to dress up as a woman for a tv show for two seasons. This guy IS the average man with major ACTING talent. I could go on and on about this, but it comes down to the fact that the two don't even come close.
I for one am glad that this comic series is being taken seriously. I was upset at the idea of a "one movie" project for this. I just don't think that the director should, when handed a thick stack of papers with organized letters on it, run to Shia's house, panting heavily, and beg him to be in it. Give some other people a chance.
Raimi Moving Forward with WIZARD'S FIRST RULE - Jan 29, 2008 - 06:19am
To comment on the first couple of posts. Disney owns ABC so, while you won't be seeing a "Disney" style show, the credit is given due to ownership of the network.
I haven't read any of these books so maybe that's a good thing.
I'm trying to recall but has a book series been tapped for a TV series? I don't think so. I think that this could be a better way to translate these favs instead of craming them into a couple of two hour segments on the silver screen. Also the producers can change the direction of the series if enough people gripe about it where as on film you get what you get.
While I'm a fan for any series on HBO, Showtime, etc. due to their ability to not be restrained like public television, I'm hoping this pans out and we get more series on tv.
Alexander Updates on PUNISHER:WAR ZONE - Jan 29, 2008 - 05:59am
I agree with the rest of you guys . . . partially. I thought the first movie was good, with the exception of Travolta. You have to remember that it was a first. Just about all of the first movies in a series is a little bland. And, if I remember correctly, Castle wasn't "nuts" when he was working for the FBI, but he had the potential for it and they showed that by the cases he worked with disregard for himself. As well as the couple of scenes where they hint to us that he wasn't around his wife and kids much. All of these things weigh on him more and more as he seeks peace in killing the bad guys, which I believe is what makes him "nuts". He figures that he hasn't got anything to live for and that he is already so far gone that it doesn't matter anymore. That is what I hope to see in this movie, like the rest of you.
Oh, Lexi is definitely HOT! Here's me hoping she puts in a part as a stripper in the background! =P
Official STAR TREK Site Online - Jan 17, 2008 - 06:42am
Post #2- In response. John Logan, the writer behind Nemesis, talked very passionately about his movie too and look what happened. I remember this site even commenting on his quotes about being very excited to work on the project because he had been a fan since he was a kid and how he wanted to do the franchise, and the fans, justice.
.....
I'm hoping that this reboot to the franchise will breath some new life into the universe. But we are dealing with an unproven cast. I mean, the last two crews of the Enterprise were favorites of the fans through the series they were in.
A lot of pressure here, and I hope that they're up to it. I still have my doubts about JJ Abrams. TV is very different from film and I haven't been convinced that he's got what it takes to make the transfer over. As far as I can see he's only directed one movie, 'MI 3', and that didn't exactly knock my socks off or anything. There is no doubt that he can produce and even write, but he's going to need a lot more than that for this project.
Need to see a trailer to be certain.
