John Carpenter fans may be pleased to see this even if no details are given. Two different stories wrapped up into one in some news from Variety centering around screenwriter Jeremy Passmore. One of his projects, SUMMER'S END , has been picked up by Platinum Dunes and Rogue Pictures, revolving around around a group of teens in a small Oregon town who survive a deadly virus that wipes out the adult population and must fight for their lives when the military attempts to quarantine the area.

What's the other bit of news in the Variety article?

Director John Carpenter will be working on another of screenwriter Passmore's projects titled THE PRINCE. No other details are given as of yet but his fans will be pleased to see another project on the horizon. Carpenter is currently working on PSYCHOPATH which centers on someone chasing down a serial killer only to find himself getting a little insane as he gets closer to the killer.

That's a horrible thing to say, exfan...Carpenter's an absolute favorite of mine, directing royalty you might say. I'll see ANYTHING he directs. Love his movie scores as well.

I agree with ya, muchdrama...I love Carpenter movies and watching Halloween and Assault got me INTO loving movies and wanting to know more. I can not think of ONE movie he has done that I do not own or dislike...Anything he puts out WILL be good, that I am certain of. It is also good to see him back at it...I was beginning to wonder there wtf had happened to him...It is good to see him doing good and making more movies!

People get down on Ratner, McG, and Len Wisemen, but defend Vampires and Ghosts of Mars? Even though i love Carpenter and his movies, that makes no sense. I don't see ow people can think that "Big Trouble in Little China" is a much better movie than "Live Free or Die Hrd" or "Rush Hour 2"....but then again, that's just me.

Big trouble in little china....to me was awesome, however ghosts of mars was absolutely terrible.

Capenter is 50/50 with me he has some great flicks like big trouble, escape from n.y., but he also has crap like escape from l.a., and ghosts of mars. I have to agree Whiskeymovie, people will say how crappy Ratner and Wiseman, (i can't defend Mcg as a director I hate the charlie flicks!) But say they love Carpenter when he has films with the same feel.

I agree with most of the comments here, Carpenter's work has slipped for quite some time. Here and there were some good movies (Most recent “In the Mouth of Madness†and his Masters of Horror work), but all in all they are getting pretty lame. Someone once wrote that Carpenter's work is pure guy stuff: sex, drugs, violence, and rock-n-roll, if you will. And I agree, while the plots are ho-hum, they do deliver on what you wanna see sometimes: ass kicking or boobs. I wish Carpenter would step his game up again, I mean for crying out loud this is the man who helped create “Halloween†and redefined the genre, his game should not have slipped so far as it has. That slip resulted in the kinda crap out there now. I do enjoy his movies though for what they are at this point, and would watch them in heart beat if I had a choice between them or watching guys like McG, Meyers, Ratner Boll, and whoever else is in the no talent pipeline now.
