In keeping with his plans to alternate between comedies and dramatic projects, Jim Carrey has agreed to produce and star in a film based on nonfiction book called THE CHILDREN OF THE DUST BOWL.
Written by Jerry Stanley, the book tells the true story of the plight of migrant workers in the late 30s fleeing into California to escape the dust bowl. In particular, it focuses on a compassionate high school superintendent named Leo Hart who spearheaded and carried through the difficult task of building a schoolhouse for the displaced children of the workers.
Miramax will release the film.
But first, Carrey will star in an untitled supernatural comedy for Gary Ross at Universal. That film is scheduled to start shooting in March in New York City.
