Carrey to Join Kick Ass 2?

The Riddler in Kick Ass

By Robert T. Trate     September 03, 2012
Source: Screenrant

With only a few more days until cameras start rolling on Kick-Ass 2, the movie’s production has now hit a breakneck pace, trying to get all of its ducks in a row. While many of the first film’s major players have already been tapped to reprise their roles, a few newcomers have also been added to the mix including Donald Faison (Doctor Gravity) and John Leguizamo (Red Mist’s bodyguard Javier). Still, as with any good sequel, there were many more roles to go around, a few of which had yet to be filled.

The newest rumor was that Universal was very interested in casting Jim Carrey for the role of The Colonel, better known to Kick-Ass fans as Colonel Stars. At the time, it seemed like a perfect role for Carrey, who most recently wrapped production on The Incredible Burt Wonderstone, and now it appears Universal may have gotten their wish.

Only bad news here is that you said "first".  :)

I thought I'd read a couple of days ago that this wasn't going through, unless things have changed... just checked google news & it seems that the director of the movie, Jeff Wardlow, and Mark Millar made the following tweets (from The Guardian):

"6 days till we start shooting… and we officially have our Colonel. Alrighty f'n then," tweeted Wadlow, using one of Carrey's catchphrases. Millar later tweeted that the actor playing Colonel Stars "lives with 200 raccoons and parrots, owns the mask of Loki and [was] named by Spielberg as a genius". Those comments reference, respectively, Carrey's roles in Ace Ventura: Pet Detective and The Mask, and a spat with Steven Spielberg in 1995 that ended with the director praising the Canadian actor.

Wasn't wowed by the first but still enjoyed it. Maybe since I haven't and don't intend on reading the second KA series I'll enjoy this one better.

Oh yeah and getting Carrey on board is a huge plus. This went from no enthusiasm to middling

Wise-I am seriously wowed that you were not wowed by the first Kick Ass.... =^O

And i agree, Jim Carrey being on this film is perfect for both him, and the film. I really think a movie like this could jumpstart his career back again in a big way.

This could be a great thing if not all Carrey-ied up, like he did when he played "Riddler", lol..

MrJawbreakingEquilibrium 9/4/2012 11:59:01 AM

Phantom, why don't you add "Get off my lawn!" while you're at it, fool?

Most of the changes in the movie can be tweaked with little contunity errors for the second. I will admit comic leaps and bounds better then the movie. What i really want to know is how have they not recast hit girl? She has grown way to much.

The second comic tries to be a sort of Empire Strikes back. I think this movie is somewhat doomed. While i will go see it the first one was borderline. Meaning this one if not perfect will seem like some cheap knockoff.
