According to the USA TODAY, the Disney/Pixar film CARS will land on DVD November 7, 2006.

CARS is the second biggest film of this year, behind only the mammoth PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN: DEAD MAN'S CHEST.

The DVD will include an all new short film entitled MATER AND THE GHOSTLIGHT and a behind the scenes feature which explains how writer-director John Lasseter made the film.

ONE MAN BAND, the short film which aired before the film in theaters, is also included on the DVD along with four deleted scenes and a sneak peek at Pixar's upcoming animated film Ratatouille.

I just wish it would have been funnier, but I always liked doc hollywood, so I had to compare it to that which was good and funny. I miss dori. Now that was funny.

I agree that Cars was not on par with "The Incredibles" but is was still waaaayyyy better than all those other animated movies out there (Hoodwinked, Valiant, Madagascar). You know, as a computer animator, I am finding that the job market is becoming too saturated with night school animator wannabes, mainly because of all the trite being spit out by Hollywood trying to capitalize on this Animation boom. Ahhhh, but it is Hollywood, I would expect nothing less from them.

I loved Cars even though i did not get to see the ending.
This is my one dream was to get into Computer animation. But the lack of schools having it for a class back in my hayday in 1996 at the time prevented that dream from happening.
Pixar just always seems to make really good movies. All these other animated movies are stupid slapstick, goof movies where everything is some slapstick humor. It is like every scene is some goof humor and just try to get a luagh instead of telling a story. Pixar put out another great flick.

Cars was probably Pixar's weakest feature so far IMHO, but it's still the best animated movie I've seen this year (and unlikely to be surpassed, unless there's a sleeper out there somewhere).

You're right about most of these movies being simple gag-a-minute movies, which wouldn't be so bad if in the hands of Chuck Jones. Unfortunately none of these directors are on the level of Jones.

I've yet to see Cars. Based on the word of mouth that I was told, it wasn't *THAT* great of a film. The animation was flawless, but the sotry was just complete crap.

I'll be checking out the DVD though, so I can gauge it for myself.

Plus, I'm getting the feeling that Pixar has plateau'd. I think The Incredibles was their best shot to date, but everything else will never equal it (plus "Ratatoullie" or whatever it's called looks and sounds...well...terrible).

Dreamworks is probbably my new favorite animation studio. The 2 Shrek films, Madagascar, and Over The Hedge were AWESOME!

I loved Cars, I agree it wasn't the Incredibles or Toy Stoty, but any movie I can enjoy with my little monsters that much is a bonus.

damn i missed it in theaters, but Nov. 6th is my birthday so I'll have to ask for it!! :)
Hoodwinked ROCKED, Over the Hedge rocked too.

3d animation is hardly a "boom" when it takes upwards of 3-4 YEARS to make a feature... its kinda like draining a swimming pool.
by the way i never saw Valiant, how was that? (or Chicken Little for that matter but I own the DVD)

We reneted it. Valiant was just ok. My kids (6&7) were entertained for a while, but they actually liked Bambi 2 better and Mulan 2 also and Eight below better also.
Like I said it was just ok.
Eight Below is pretty good.
I was also entertained, but admit I missed about 30 minutes of the movie, because I found something else to do.

Valiant was OK, but not terribly memorable. Worth a look as a rental, and possibly a way to introduce your kids to WWII. Chicken Little was the weakest of all the animated movies I saw last year, but even that would likely be entertaining for kids - just not a whole lot to entertain the grown-ups.
