Cartoon Network announces anime series

.hack//SIGN comes to the Cartoon Network

The Cartoon Network issues a press release trumpeting the arrival of
.hack//SIGN to the animation net's roster. The series, produced in Japan, will premiere Saturday, February 1 at 3pm ET/PT. The cable channel has acquired 26 episodes of the series, which features the character designs of
NEON GENESIS EVANGELION's and
WINGS OF HONNEAMISE's Yoshiyuki Sadamoto. The story is by
GHOST IN THE SHELL's Kazunori Ito, and the series s directed by Kouichi Mashimo of
NOIR.
The press release describes the show: "
.hack//SIGN (typically referred to as 'dot hack') explores the issues of what happens when the real world and virtual reality collide. In
.hack//SIGN, 'The World' is an immersive virtual gaming environment of the future. Millions of players log on each day to test their skill in virtual adventures and battles. But when 'The World' combines with their world, a whole new adventure unfolds."
