Cary Elwes will be joining the cast for the upcoming performance capture/Disney digital 3-D take on A CHRISTMAS CAROL, says Variety. Director Robert Zemeckis has already cast Jim Carrey, Bob Hoskins, Colin Firth, Gary Oldman and Robin Wright Penn in various roles for the new version of the Charles Dickens classic. The trade reports that Elwes will also play multiple roles in the film.

Cary Elves is a great actor. Just watched him again in Hot Shots on cable. He is a very funny actor.

Cary Elwes, well that's good news I guess, but HOLY CHRISTMAS GOOSE! Jim Carrey playing four of the leads?! Page 1851 HTG HOLLYWOOD MONSTER COMPENDIUM Cont... JIM CARREY™‚ Likelihood of confrontation 235:1 Viewer cost and damage multiplier scheme: Jim Carrey x1 = ambivalence up to mild satisfaction (no damage, -1* to intelligence, -10 gold pieces) Jim Carrey x2 = stupefaction†(x2 damage, -4** to intelligence, -200 gold pieces) Jim Carrey x3 = super-stupefaction (x10 damage, -8**** to intelligence, and dexterity -500 gold pieces) Jim Carrey x4 = super-duper-stupefaction (x100 damage, -10****** to intelligence, and dexterity -1000 gold pieces) [* signify number of weeks x10 of sustained loss] ->All viewings of a Jim Carrey result in a -2 x (number of Jim Carrey) hit to charisma, followed by a desire to watch pro wrestling, shop at Wal-Mart, and a nearly insatiable craving for mayonnaise and WonderBread®. ->Simultaneous x3 and x4 Jim Carrey viewings incur a higher gold piece penalty to cover subsequent therapy and treatment costs to regain lost motor skills and IQ. Gold pieces insurance can only be used on Jim Carrey encounters of x3 thru x4 only, but must be declared at the beginning of the melee/viewing at a cost of 100 gold pieces. ->It should be noted that x4 and higher simultaneous Jim Carrey viewings are extremely rare; The HTG (Hollywood Tour Guide) should always recommend viewers not look directly at these shit storms and simply run away just as quickly as possible, for there is no defense or film critic strong enough to destroy it or to dispel the swirling chaotic evil soul sucking, wallet emptying cloud of producers, writers, and directors that are sure to accompany a Jim Carrey of this magnitude.

WTF was that?... Anyways, Jim Carrey's playing all the major roles? Mistake. With all the talent joining this movie, why not have other people play the other roles. Then I could probably deal with Carrey playing Scrooge (after all, Bill Murray did). But with Oldman, Wright Penn, Firth and Hoskins relegated to minor supporting roles? I'll pass...
MuensterJohnson 12/10/2007 9:43:12 AM
You know, that picture of Cary Elwes trying to escape seems fitting, what with the news of a x4 Jim Carrey in this movie. Truly frightening I would say!
monkeyfoot 12/10/2007 10:29:44 AM
Jim Carrey playing multiple roles sounds similar to what Zemeckis did with Tom Hanks in Polar Express. I have no problem with it.

Robin Wright Penn and Cary Elwes back together again? There's no way I'm missing this. Best. Romance. Ever.

That was funny Muenster. Good Lord I'm a geek.

Jim Carrey needs a big hit. I think he's taking the safe way out by doing a movie that probably would do well regardless of who the lead is. I used to love this guy but I think he may have ran his course already. I think he should go back and do a movie about the Fire Marshall he used to play in In Living Color.
silversurfer 12/10/2007 3:37:15 PM
It would've been interesting to see Cary as one of the ghosts though...I think the banter between he and Carrey would've been fun in and of itself.... Wiseguy562...a Fire Marshall Bill movie would be hillarious....with the right writers, that could be magic...
MovieMan 12/10/2007 5:25:50 PM
Yes! Fire Marshall Bill should get made i've been thinking about that for decades, well they're still making A Homey Da Clown Movie .
