The LA Daily News reported today that Warner Bros is having trouble getting some "casting" done for their upcoming adaptation of Alan Moore's WATCHMEN. The film being helmed by Zach Snyder( 300, DAWN OF THE DEAD) certainly has a large cast of look a likes to incorporate into the film.

Richard Nixon, Henry Kissinger, H.R. Haldeman, Ted Koppel, John McLaughlin, Annie Liebowitz, John Lennon and Yoko Ono, Fidel Castro, Albert Einstein, Norman Rockwell, JFK and Jackie Kennedy, Andy Warhol, Mao Tze Tung and Larry King.

Alan Moore's WATCHMEN focuses on an alternate universe's version of the United States.

There could also be issues with some of those real-life characters, or their descendants, getting their hackles raised.
Nonetheless, I'm hoping they can get this casting sorted out, and move forward.

For once, this piece of news makes me feel better about the movie. In trying to get all those real life people (or, obviously, actors to play them) it looks like Snyder might actually make a politically scathing, culturally relavant, movie with some brass balls.

But, then, I've been disappointed before.

I guess I've never really considered the option that this might turn out good.

Still...

I didn't see Snyder's Zombie movie, but his Spartan movie is now in my top 10. I hope I can say something similar after he finishes Watchmen.

I'm glad they're at least thinking about things like this, and I love the comic, but I REALLY don't see it translating well to film at all, no matter who is directing it. IMO, not EVERY story out there needs to be put on celluloid so that those too lazy to read may view a dumbed down version.

It's no wonder this movie's had so much trouble getting to the screen. Will all those real life people be in the movie? They could either get actors to play them, or try using real footage through the magic of CG effects, like Forrest Gump. But that's a long shot.

I smell clusterfuck.

Why cast human lookalikes when an FX studio can digitally create historical figures as CG-characters inserted with the live actors? It can be done.

Can they just make a Sliders movie already?!

Snyder didnt anticipate this after he read the script?
