Things look to be moving quickly on that recently reported Jim Carrey starring Howard Hughes vehicle. Now, word comes that Castle Rock has acquired the rights to Richard Hack's book HUGHES: THE PRIVATE DIARIES, which will be used as the basis for the film to come.
Castle Rock is said to have been eager to work with Carrey again after Frank Darabont's THE MAJESTIC.
Christopher Nolan (MEMENTO) will helm the project as well as write the film's script.
Carrey's Hughes project is the frontrunner now in a plethora of developing Howard Hughes movies. The strongest contender is Michael Mann's take on the billionaire with a script by John Logan (STAR TREK: NEMESIS, GLADIATOR), which may star Leonardo DiCaprio, out of New Line. Other Hughes vehicles in various states of developement include Warren Beatty's long developing, possibly stalled project, as well as THE HOAX from Mutual Film. The latter project focuses on Clifford Irving's book about how he sold his fraudulent Hughes biography, and what happened after the reclusive Hughes declared it to be a fake.
