CASTLEVANIA and DEATH RACE 2000 News

Sci Fi Wire found out some intersting information regarding two upcoming films:

Producer Jeremy Bolt told SCI FI Wire that he and his frequent collaborator, writer/director Paul W.S. Anderson, are well into development on a new movie based on Death Race 2000 and a second film based on the Castlevania video-game franchise. "We're talking about two projects: Death Race and Castlevania," Bolt said in an interview on the set of Resident Evil: Extinction here, which Anderson wrote. "[Death Race] would be a remake of Death Race 2000, with Paramount and us producing it with Cruise/Wagner, Tom Cruise's production company."

The original 1975 movie starred David Carradine in a story about a futuristic car race in which drivers run down innocent pedestrians for points. The remake has been in development for more than a decade. "Paul came in and wrote the script and got it a lot closer," Bolt said. "We should be making an official announcement about it in the next few weeks. We've basically taken the idea of reality television and extended it 2,000 years. It's definitely a comment on society and reality television, but it's not as a much a parody or satire as the original. It's more straightforward."

Maybe the script calls for all the reality television stars to get mowed down in the race only to leave Anderson there to be mowed down last as an offering to the film gods for making bad films… though Milla is enjoyable to watch)……

This is a bad idea.

I like the idea of making Death Race a reality show; a new take on Running Man. I used to love playing the old Castlevania video game, but i worry that the movie would turn out like Bloodrayne. Anderson's movies, while not exactly "good" vilms, are usually entertaining.

I loved Event Horizon. I wasn't comparing Anderson to Boll when I made the Bloodrayne comment...I don't think Anderson could make a movie that bad.

Yuck... I hated Event Horizon, it was the movie that should have rocked but sucked.

The original Death Race was a great film. I like the "Running Man" angle Wes mentioned.

Castlevania... it was a fun game, but it's a game... I just don't have high hopes for this. I will basically be some kinda of vampire film with just a name "Castlevania" and most vampire films are either hit or miss... but I do like vampire films... ugghh... Now I'm confused...

Event Horizon? You mean Disney's Black Hole as a horror movie? That was a rancid movie.

Remaking Death Race is silly, and will lose a lot in the translation.

I thought Sam Neil and Lawrence Fishburne were great in Event Horizon. I haven't seen it in a long time; did it really stink that bad? I'll have to watch it again soon.

lracors, I agree with your comment about Castlevania; that's why I said it will probably turn out like Bloodrayne. Still, it'll be a vampire movie which I usually like even when it's a crappy vampire movie. I recently bought the DVDs of the Kindred TV series...talk about really bad acting, but it was still fun. C. Thomas Howell really is a terrible actor!
