Oh, and ditto what redvector said.  I feel like MOS is going to be good, but let's not count our super-chickens before they see the light of a yellow sun.

I would rather see a World's Finest with Adam West and George Reeves, Christopher Reeves or well even Dean Cain would not be bad.

WB is too stupid to make a universe. Sorry. Marvel will always have them behind the woodshed on this area.

Wiseguy 5/23/2013 2:16:43 PM

My God I can't even remember how long I've been saying that WF is the optimal way for DC to open up their universe

And yes Superman Returns did flounder at the box office. Decent opening and a quick drop. It also had the misfortune of being straddled with the money wasted trying to get the film off the ground hence a HUGE budget.

MOS however will set June on fire.....I'm sensing a new June record. Take that to Vegas

And yeah NO BALE. This is the true DC universe we're aiming for not Nolan's vision. Let his films bask in their glory

Wish, in the movie I Am Legend near the beginning while Will Smith is walking through the devastated NYC we see a shot of a movie poster with the Batman and Superman logos (like the one heading this articleO. It was supposed to be a tease for the proposed Superman vs.Batman movie that was being developed but never happened.

Wonders of Youtube! You can find the scene there by searching for the title "I am legend first scene" . The shot is 2:16 into it.

I remember saying months ago that I'd much rather see a WF movie/franchise than a JL movie/franchise.  For a number of different reasons.  Mainly, with the success of The Avengers, it's almost hard to not see any Justice League movie, Marvel's rival doing a big budget superhero crossover movie and it NOT seem like DC's knockoff version.  I don't care who's in it or who technically came first, The Avengers kind of set the bar.

More than that, doing a WF would allow you to focus on the most iconic characters in comic history.  It's not even like you can't have other characters either, just focus on superman and Batman stories.

More than that though, trying to do multiple franchises is going to take multiple movies.  But if you're going to meld in Batman in MoS, you wouldn't need more films, the character is already fresh in people's minds now.  Kind of like how they didn't need to do an origin story for the Hulk.

As far as Bale playing Batman, of he's done, he's done.  But if he wants to come back, that's fine with me.  The problem is Nolan's story line wrapped itself up, which was a bad idea IMO.

Taken right from wikipedia.....if that means anything.....

Superman Returns

Budget US$270 million[1]
Box office $391,081,192 $81,610,035 Domestic DVD sales

FUCK IT!!  Lets just agree on how much Man Of Steel is gonna absofuckinglutely kickass and be done with it!!!!

Wiseguy 5/23/2013 5:44:03 PM

Exactly. A film has to at least double its budget to come close to breaking even and that doesn't even include p&a

But yeah MOS will more than make up for all that

therockdltj 5/23/2013 6:49:30 PM

eldogg must have never heard of JAMES BOND!

Muenster 5/23/2013 7:27:20 PM

Incorrect and correct Wiseguy. P and A is not all the times included in the budget, that part is usually done by a different entity, separate from the production (money backers) team. Distribution takes a gamble (or not) and handles all the publicity and marketing. If the film tanks, Distro takes the hit. If it makes crazy bank they get a share of the profits and recoup their expenses.

Every wonder why some films start with the Distro fanfare and then are followed by so many production company name and labels at the start?

Here's an interesting example; that horrid Paranormal movie were less for around $15K. You can bet Paramount spent a lot more on marketing that $15K, IMDB and Mojo reflects the same. In this case Paramount purchased distro rights.
