CELLULAR helmer David R. Ellis has replaced Ronny Yu (FREDDY VS. JASON) as director for New Line Cinema's SNAKES ON A PLANE. This would be the third film that Ellis has done for New Line after this autumn's CELLULAR and last year's FINAL DESTINATION 2.
Written by David Loucka and John Heffernan, the movie kicks off when an assassin releases a crate full of poisonous snakes onboard a plane in flight over the Pacific Ocean, hoping that one of the reptiles will bite a star witness being held in protective custody. Since the snakes don't care who they bite, the rest of the aircraft's passengers and crew have to ban together to track down and fend off the deadly animals before they too are fatally bitten. After all, that's why it's titled SNAKES ON A PLANE.
The Hollywood Reporter adds that Yu left the project over the size of the movie's budget and creative differences. Maybe he wanted to call it SNAKES ON A TRAIN?
