Luke Evans for The Crow

By Robert T. Trate     May 06, 2013

It seems there was a huge race going on for the title character of F. Javier Gutierrez’s Crow franchise. The likes of Tom Hiddleston, Alexander Skarsgard, and James McAvoy were all up for the role. As it turns out, Luke Evans (The Hobbit: Desolation of Smaug) will now take on role made famous by the late Brandon Lee. Relativity Media is relaunching the franchise based on the James O’Barr comic book series. To accommodate Evans’ hectic work schedule the film’s start date has been pushed back to early 2014.

What are your thoughts Maniacs? Do we need to revisit The Crow? Is Luke Evans the right actor for the role?

I'm new to this site (by new i mean i've browsed but never made an account until.. well today!) but this news makes me uncomfortable... I'm a big fan of the original Brandon Lee Crow. Eh, i guess i'll save my judgements when a little more news surfaces around this.

I'll wait and see if there's any further buzz about this. If this remake is done, whoever is cast in Brandon Lee's role has big shoes to fill.

The Actors supposedly signed to play the Crow keep getting less and less famous (and expensive).  The last Mania article I read had Wahlberg in the Role and before that it was Brad Cooper.  Maybe the producers should take that as a sign.  Normally I'm OK with at least the idea of remakes, but what say we leave this one alone, just this once.  Please?  Let's let the fantastic original stand as Brandon Lee's professional coup de gras and leave it at that.

Where did they leave off in the Crow franchise?  Did they make something like six straight to DVD movies?  I'd rather they pick another story and character from the thousands created in the world.  We saw a great Crow movie.

InnrSanctum: There were 4 Crow movies all together. The Crow, The Crow:City of Angels, The Crow:Salvation, and The Crow:Wicked Prayer

...and the TV series The Crow: Stairway to Heaven

Yeah, I say leave it alone.  The original was great, Brandon Lee went out on a great note (sorry, not a fan of his before The Crow), and it's dark and gritty angst just fit perfectly in the early 90's.  I said it before, I'm afraid a remake made these days would either try to pander to the Twilight crowd or the Eli Roth torture porn crowd.

I don't mind another Crow movie. I love the Lee movie too, but he's a comic book superhero character. I don't think any of you would say "What? Another Superman, Batman,  (fill in the blank)."

Ooh a glowing Crow would be cool.

Yeah I'd see this but it holds little interest to be honest.

I can see some actors be wary of this role. The hardcore fans will be almost impossible to please but the upside is there in the film and hero have basically a cult following so if they can win the general audience they can really make a name of themselves
