Thespian Charlize Theron is nearly set to join Tom Cruise in United Artist's upcoming thriller remake The Tourist, which is based on the 2005 French thriller Anthony Zimmer. She's in final negotiations to star while Bharat Nalluri is set to direct the feature, based on a screenplay by Christopher McQuarrie and Julian Fellowes. Spyglass principals Gary Barber, Roger Birnbaum and Jonathan Glickman will produce with Canal Plus.
India-born director Nalluri most recently directed the HBO film Tsunami and Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day. Production on the remake will begin by March 2009.
Plot Concept: Theron will play a female Interpol agent who uses an American tourist in an attempt to flush out an elusive criminal with whom she once had an affair.
