A new presidential leader has been cast for Fox's 24. According to the Hollywood Reporter, the sworn in leader of the Jack Bauer hour will be veteran actress, Cherry Jones. There have been rumors of the producers looking towards a female president for a few weeks now which is based off the United States current political climate and the primaries which are on the horizon.

Previous movie credits for the actress is OCEAN'S TWELVE, THE VILLAGE & SIGNS.

This casting comes just a few weeks after Fox scrapped the new storyline of 24's creators. They wanted the show to veer in a different direction and be based in Africa. Fox vetoed the new storyline saying they never approved of it or more importantly, the higher budget being asked per show. This has delayed filming for next season until August.

Fox should pony up the cash and let the producers take the show out of LA. Something new is needed for the series in my opinion. I've always thought this show could survive without Bauer. Bring a whole new cast and a different setting. For example, the character DEsmond from Lost played, he was Bauer's British counterpart I believe. Something like that could work. Last season was weak, they better do something worthwhile this season and enough with the crazy out of the blue coincidences, like the puppet master that controled President Logan turned out to be Bauer's brother. Come on!

Actually I wouldn't mind Bauer taking over CTU in the role he used to have and Bill Buchanan had, as the acting driector. Then you can let Ricky Schroeder have his character be the main character, as head of field ops, and flesh out some of his team's back stories, making then semi-main characters... Last season I hated the guy, then as always the character redeemed himself and I grew to like him.

A new setting? Yes. 24 without Jack Bauer and Kiefer Sutherland is like Macaroni and Cheese without the cheese. Of course, like all mac and cheese, if you over cook something, it's just MUSH! Hopefully the news that the 24 movie will be shot out of America means that they're actually setting it IN ENGLAND or something like that. As for Cherry Jones? She's talented as ever, but the buck has to stop there. This President had better stick around.

How many years have passed in the Bauer-verse sense season 1 opened? I'm coming up with about 10 or so. In those ten years, the country has had 5 presidents I think. (Whoever was president while Palmer was running for office in season 1, D. Palmer, Keeler, Logan, W. Palmer) Talk about some chaos! Back to the show itself, how many Emmy awards does the Fox network have sitting around on the shelves at the home office for a Best Drama? I'm pretty sure that number is precisely... ONE! If the producers said they wanted to set the show on the moon they should let them and pay the fee happily.

Lose the president. And, don't make it such an obvious endorsement of Hillary. I will say, they both are quite manly...so, they got that right.

I'm hoping as well that Season 7's President will stick around through the show's completion. I don't like the constant changing of the guard in the Presidency either and would probably enjoy the show more if Bauer built another personal relationship with another President. I really enjoyed Bauer's relationship with Palmer in the early seasons of 24 and it added another layer to the storylines. Once Palmer left there were less emotional ties, leaving a disjointed connection between Bauer and the White House.

the first two comments are cleary made by people who haven't really payed attention to the show. Jack's british counterpart was actually Audrey Raine's ex husband Paul who died in the same season he appeared and Ricky Schroeder's character was permanently disfigured in the season finale and probably won't return to a working capacity in any future episodes. No offence intended as I've seen prior comments from both members that I've agreed with. I'm not a hollywood writer and I don't have any groundbreaking ideas for this show but I love it completely and I desperatly want for it to recapture the energy that made it the best show on television for the last six years. Here's hoping they do the right things.

On another note......hopefully the powers that be in this series start to tie some of the legendary things Jack has done in the past to the Government leaders and they start trusting him and really looking to him for guidance in situations that he obviously has a lot of experience in.......I mean come on.......how many more times can they cast his opinions aside and label him a criminal when he always gets the job done? That shit never happens to John Mclane.......

wish, Actually hanso was on the right track about Desmond from Lost (Henry Ian Cusick) appearing in 24. He appeared for a single hour in season 5 as a German spy who was after Collette. Jack duped him into handing over Collette's intel in exchange for the U.S. government's NOC list which turned out to be fake. Paul was never a British spy, nor was he any "counterpart" to Jack in any way. He was a businessman who was unwittingly passing money through his companies for the terrorists in season 4. You were right about, of course, about Doyle's fate in this past season's finale, so his return is doubtful at best. My hope for this coming season is that 24 centers on a small, core group of characters so the storyline doesn't get too far out of hand like it did this past season.

I hope they dial the threat back a little. It doesn't have to be a huge country or world wide threat to be interesting. Season 1 was a personal attack on Jack and a senator and it was amazing. Every year after they've upped the ante, but the downside is Jack has to win. So Jack ends up seeming like a super hero. I remember during Season 5, some guy infiltrated CTU (as always) and fought with Jack. After Jack killed him, he commented that he thought he broke a rib. Then he ran around saving the world for another 18 hours. WITH A BROKEN RIB! Has anyone ever had a broken rib? It hurts to breathe. Things like that have begun to bug me about the show.
