According to GameSpot, developer Cheyenne Mountain has announced that it has begun production on the upcoming MMOG, Stargate Worlds.

As the title suggests, much of the material for the game will come from the TV shows Stargate SG-1 and Stargate: Atlantis.  The game is reportedly being developed with direct input from the shows producers.

The game should offer a great deal of breadth between combat, exploration, crafting, and quests that may be tied to a character's race or profession, as well as to local geography and the game's overarching story.  You can read GameSpot's article here for much more info on the game play.

The company is aiming for a launch sometime in 2008.

Seeing as I already pay about $15/month to play World of WarCraft, I'd rather not get sucked into another MMORPG/MMOG. I'm trying to ween myself off games as it is. Fortunately I have retained my life outside of the game unlike some tragic souls.

I completely agree, browbeat. I just started playing WoW recently, and I like the fact that there's an in-game clock. "Oh, let's see how long I have until my show's on. Oh, five minutes? Time to go." I don't care that I'm in the middle of a quest or something. If I'm in a group, "sorry guys, have to leave." I still have a girlfriend and friends, I'm not overweight. You just need to know how to manage your time. But I agree that one MMORPG is enough.
