China Ends Ban of Hollywood Films

National Treasure: Book of Secrets, The Golden Compass and 10,000 B.C will be hitting theaters in China after a three month ban from China Film Group. The ban of Hollywood-produced films was put in place to give free local box office reign on Chinese-based productions such as Assembly and The Warlords, says Variety.

There was some fears inside Hollywood that the ban would go longer because of relations between China & America but CFG denied the blackout by allowing older films such as Pursuit of Happyness and The Water Horse to get limited releases there earlier in the year.

Couldn't GC be viewed as an anti-government movie. Maybe the Chinese are getting a little more progressive than I thought.

I didn't even know China was banning America's movies. I can understand that they want there movies to do well, but banning anytinhg is never the answer. That is the trouble we have here in the US with some things. Like onlline gambling or sweet sweet chiba. Don't ban, regulate.

I'm sure with the Olympics and worldwide attention coming this summer, China will be on their best behavior in all cultural ways.
"Honest we won't torture or unjustly imprison anybody unless we really, really have to."
Wait, is that China or the U.S.?

Personally, I don't like a lot of things about China or Chinese people, however, banning american films in search of secure profit for their own movies is a good move, that's why they have a chinese movie industry, not like some other countrys like Mexico, in where for each 5 american films, there is 1 mexican film showing...

"Personally, I don't like a lot of things about China or Chinese people, " -end quote

Wow. What a blanket comment.

Having spent time in china, the chinese people are some of the nicest people in the world. They dont take things for granted, and they are friendly and helpful, even with the language gap. I would consider moving there if it werent for the language problem.

Now, the most interesting thing to me about this news is that they 'banned' them from the theatres, but you can buy them on dvd on every corner:)

With the limited copyright laws, it was amazing what you could buy there.

As for quality, my company imports some items from china. Electronics. And the fact of the matter is when you deal with them, you tell them how much you want to spend, and what kind of quality you are looking for. And they make it to very tight specs.

Dont blam china for a 2$ toy thats cheap. Blame hasbro for demanding that toy be made for 12cents.

After the olympics, china will be a whole different country. They have change alot in the last 3 years (culturally) and the experts say after the olympics, there will be little of their old world culture left. Good or bad.

I don't dislike the Chinese, it's the government I don't care too much for. Oh wait, I don't really like ours either.

Big culture change? umm... yes and no. Sure, go to Shanghai and other medium-big cities and that's true to an extent. But, I took a winding tour to Yellow Mountain a few years back, and there was a broad variety of old and new world lifestyles. I suppose over time new will trickle down. Still, it was pretty cool to see a few locales near/in Jade Valley where Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon was shot.

The real problem is our unsatiable greed. Look at the trade deficit. Look at our national debt. And Bush is giving us back money??! To spend on what? Goods from Asia, that's what. Boost our economy?? Boost China and Japan's economy is more like it. What we should do is ban goods from China... oh wait, we can't. We've become too dependant on them. [Bend over]

So they end the ban with a Nic cage movie and a Roland Emmerich CGI-fest?

I guess Hollywood wants to be banned in China forever after those two P.O.S. movies debut.

The beauty of the good ole U.S. of A. is if you don't like it here then leave. No one is holding you here against your will. Personally, I love it here and god bless America.

Spark1701 - The OTHER beauty of the good ol' U.S. of A. is if you don't like it here, you don't HAVE to leave. You can work to improve things from within, and that starts with airing your complaints about the USA.

The day our Government becomes so afraid of criticism that I am told I must leave if I don't like things the way they are is the day Democracy has died.
