Kenneth Branagh Ready to Direct THOR - Sep 29, 2008 - 09:41am
He recently directed Sleuth with Micheal Caine and Jude Law. Very interesting character study/ thriller. Worth the rent. And Hamlet was, IMHO, one of the best interpetations of the Bard. And I saw Keanu Reeves play Hamlet on stage. Wait... that wasn't a good thing... ignore the comparison please

WB Decides to Reboot Darker SUPERMAN - Aug 23, 2008 - 10:13am
This surprisees me. Considering SR made 370 mill worldwide, why would they be thinking reboot already? Sure the fanboys didn't like it but how much influence do we really have at the box office? Honestly I don't know. Have there been studies done? 2 fanboy/ internet favs stick out in my mind recently. Snakes on a Plane and the Grindhouse films. The internet was all hyped up about these 2 films, they were gonna bring in major bucks, yadda yadda yadda, but in the end, they crumbled. I realize other factors played into it, schedualing etc... but i think the studios thought they would do alot better consigering the online PR they were getting. And a reboot this early after SR would just confuse the average movie goer I think. I'll use my wife as an example. She doesn't understand why Batman keeps changing actors, and I've had to try and explain rebooting, new dirctors, etc etc.... I'm rambling, not enough caffeine in my system yet. My point, if the WB execs are getting all their info and ideas from the fanboys online, and cater the the minority of hardcore fans (I'm guessing it's a minority. I don't know really. Someone should do a study on it) they will alienate the average family movie going public. just my thoughts, take em or leave em

WITCHES OF EASTWICK Hit Small Screen for ABC - Aug 12, 2008 - 12:04pm
Two attempts failed? i thought Charmed lasted 12 seasons?

Lucas Updates on INDIANA JONES 5 - Jul 28, 2008 - 04:30pm
Fourth. Unfortunately, I have it on good authority, mr. lucas has surrounded himself in a cocoon of yes men and money. This coccon inpenetrable to critism, suggestions and logic. Given the Box Office of Indy 4, I think we can expect more of the same.

TV Wasteland: Dr. Horrible's Sing-a-Long Blog - Jul 28, 2008 - 04:25pm
Why did it take you guys so long to write about Dr. Horrible? I have to agree, it was very well done and entertaining. I'll be adding this to my DVD collection. I think we're seeing the beginning of a new era in entertainment.

Box Office Update: KNIGHT Scores Victory Over Brothers and FBI - Jul 28, 2008 - 09:07am
Saw TDK yesterday. Loved it, pushes the Superhero movie to new levels. Need to see it again to fully appreciate it. I loved how they used a real city and shot it to look more grounded in real life and not like a dark, gothic version of a city. I'm probably repeating other commnets from this past week but I've avoided all thoses post until I saw the film. Couple comments for posts above... While I love the Watchmen comic, and the trailer looks pretty bang on, I don't think it's gonna make 300 mil over all. I see a 40 mil opening and maybe top out at 120$ over all. kevin Costner is the man. Mr Brooks is great performance and interesting movie. Robin Hood will always be a fav of mine. I'm comfortable in my sexuality to admit it It's interesting that jonnie didn't like TDK. I'm not faulting you for your opinion, but I'm curious. Did you see the first one? Are you a sci fi/ genre fan in general? Wondering what your movie preferences are? Again not trying to slag on you, just curious.

Tim Burton Has His New ALICE - Jul 24, 2008 - 08:38am
Paint by numbers director? Have you seen Sweeney Todd? Not his best work I'll admit but hardly on the level of Brett Ratner or Rob Cohen. They're paint by numbers. Although Planet of the Apes was paint by numbers film and crap. nothing but a money grab for Tim. I do have doubts about this project only because Disney is attached to it. I can't imagine them wanted to stray to far from the cartoon version they have so much invested in. I imagin it will be more like Charlie and the Chocolate factory. PG with a couple "scary scenes"

Adult Source Media New Title Solicitation - Jul 23, 2008 - 01:50pm
When did Mania start covering Porn? Did I miss something?

Box Office Update: KNIGHT Captures Box Office History for WB - Jul 20, 2008 - 06:26pm
I haven't seen TDK yet, but I am impressed with the numbers. Slightly off topic here, but how come there's been no coverage for Joss Whedon's Dr. Horrible's Sing a long Blog. I thought Whedon had enough fans on here to warrant a mention of what he's trying to do. I watched it this morning, very cool, funny stuff. It's free until midnight tonight. Just an FYI. Please return to batman chat

Update: DARK KNIGHT Grabs Third Record - Jul 19, 2008 - 07:44am
Everyone is forgetting a little film called Space Chimps. Once the Friday Hype of DK dies, Space Chimps will rake in the cash for the rest of the weekend. SPACE CHIMPS WILL OWN THIS WEEKEND!!!! What? It could happen?

MANIA EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW: D.B. SWEENEY - Jul 17, 2008 - 09:49am
In my early 20's, there were 3 movies I could put into the VCR when I had a girl over that would guarantee I'd be getting some. Princess Bride, When Harry Met Sally and The Cutting Edge. DB Sweeney, I thank you for helping me get l**d.

Warner Bros. and Thurber Adapting ELFQUEST - Jul 09, 2008 - 10:53am
Loved the comics when I was younger so I'm a little worried about this being turned into a movie. Hopefully the Pini's will be heavily involved in the production. Who knows, this could stay in development hell for another 10 year. On a side note, did anyone else see the Elfquest Album that was put out, independantly I assume, in the early 90's? Songs based on the characters from the comic. I listened to it once and it wasn't my thing but was impressed that the creators tried something different.

New Video Journal for Zack Snyder's WATCHMEN - Jul 07, 2008 - 01:40pm
Dave Gibbons illustrated, Alan Moore was the author. I know it's an honest mistake but I need to point out stuff like that to keep my geek membership status current. FYI to everyone, In the Trees by the Watchmen, one of the related products advertised under this article, is an awesome album. Great Canadian rock band.

Spielberg Ready for 39 CLUES - Jun 25, 2008 - 09:04am
How much you want to bet he'll cast Shia Lebeouf as Blue?

Universal & Millar Plans for WANTED 2 - Jun 24, 2008 - 09:53am
I had no idea this was based on a comic. From what you guys are saying, I think I might have to pick it up. Sounds pretty cool. As for the movie, I'm expecting it to be on par with Bourne Identity. Good action scenes, basic plot, good eye candy popcorn movie. Nothing to tax the brain. And of course Angelina. Her alone is worth the price of admission.

Box Office: Paramount Finds Memorial Day Treasure with INDY - May 26, 2008 - 08:53am
As much as we would like to see Lucas step aside and let other people write, direct his movies, I think you'll have a hard time convincing him since he rakes in butt loads of cash whenever he releases movies. I wonder if he reads any of these message boards? On the subject of Indy, does anyone know if this was shot digital or on film? For the first half hour something about the film was bugging me and I figured it out. The film looked to clean. To polished. It didn't have that gritty film look to it. And there was alot more CGI then previous Indy films so that may have added to it. I remember reading an article were Spielberg said he wouldn't shoot digital because he likes the look of film. I wonder if Lucas convinced him to switch. All in all, I enjoyed the movie. Some over the top scenes (is Mutt a Monkey whisperer? I didn't get that) and the sci fi angle was a little much, but it was great to see Indy on screen again. I especially liked the nod to Marcus Brody (can't think of the actors name right now). Thought that was sweet.

Top 10 Worst Shows That Need a Remake - May 22, 2008 - 10:08am
Greatest American Hero would be a great show to reboot. But it would have to be cheesy, tonque in cheek, like Buffy or Xena. Misfits of Science (loved it when I was younger) would be a great replacement for Smallville when it eventually dies. It would capture the whole teen angst/ i got super powers but can't get a date to the prom vibe that the kids like these days. And V…. well how could you not want a remake/ reboot of that. Give it a 4 or 5 year arc and you could have another masterpiece like BSG. There is so much story potential there, it’s mind boggling. If BSG and Lost has taught us anything is that you can’t drag these shows out forever. They need a beginning, middle and end. As long as the writing is good, people will watch. V would be perfect. Believe it or not I’m walking on air I never thought I could feel so free-ee-ee Flying away, on a wing and a prayer Whooo-oooo could it beeeeee Believe it or not it’s just MEEEEEEEE It’s been stuck in my head since I started reading the article. Now it’s stuck in yours. No need to thank me.

Hill Out of TRANSFORMERS 2 - May 07, 2008 - 08:14pm
gauleyboy Not trying to be a dick. That's just how I interpreted your post. If I offended, I apologize. I agree with your opinion on armchair critics. I thought I was being funny. Guess not. But back to the article at hand. In a movie like this, do the actors really matter? You could fill the cast with a bunch of nobodies, and the film will still make a bijillion dollars because it has huge robots kickin metal butt. Shia Lebouef didn't draw people to the theaters, it was Optimus.Sportwarrior is right, save the money from hiring "name"actors and give us more robots

Hill Out of TRANSFORMERS 2 - May 07, 2008 - 04:40pm
Can't say I'm upset he won't be in it. I'm probably in the minority but I did not like Superbad. I like all of Apatow's other films, but Hill ruined this film for me. I stopped watching half way through. But since I haven't written a blockbuster comedy, I guess my opinion isn't valid. Is this a requirment now to post on this site? Prove you've written a blockbuster movie if you want to voice a negative opinion otherwise you have to love everything?

Indiana Jones Heritage Movie Photo Cards - Apr 13, 2008 - 02:30pm
I'm more curious as to what was going through Harrison's mind when he was getting slimed. "Have I fallen this low I need to get slimed?" or "What happened to my dignity?" or "How did George and Steven convince me to do this?" I would have hoped that an actor of Mr. Fords caliber wouldn't have to reduce himself to this type of lowbrow promotion, but I guess everyone has a price.

ROBOSAPIEN Begins Production in NO - Apr 08, 2008 - 05:28pm
I was going to say "I'm glad they're finally remaking Iron Giant" but then lister stoll my thunder.

LOST: The Other Woman - Mar 09, 2008 - 10:19am
Hanso, If I'm remembering this correctly, the side effects are a result of being exposed to a large dose of electro radiation, or something along those lines. Desmond was exposed when the hatch imploded and when he pressed the shiny button, Dan was exposed to little bits of radiation over time during his experiments over the last 10 years. I think Dan mentions this at some point in the episode. Or maybe the doctor on the freighter.

First Pics from Smith's PORNO and THUNDER - Mar 05, 2008 - 03:47pm
Wow...that is good make up. I should have read the EW article before I posted. RDJ 's character sounds hillarious.

First Pics from Smith's PORNO and THUNDER - Mar 05, 2008 - 01:28pm
Galaxy Quest comes to mind if you're looking for comparisons. It's a pretty good cast they have for Tropic. I'll probably see it. I've always liked Robert Downey jr. in any comedy he's done. And he's apparently playing an balck man so even more reason to watch. Ben Stiller can be counted on to deliver the same performance he has for the last ten years.

Special Edition INDY DVDS May 13 - Mar 03, 2008 - 03:17pm
SHOCKED!!! I am SHOCKED that the studio is blatently trying to make money by re releasing these movies AGAIN. I had NO idea that all they are after is money. I just can't believe it. No, I won't believe it. There's got to be more special features that we haven't seen on these DVD's. I really hope they show us the behind the scenes footage of the catering crew, and how the grilled cheese sandwich served to Spielberg on Temple of Doom inspired his more ambitious shots during the bridge sequence. Or maybe interview Lucas and finally get an answer as to what kind of insoles he puts in his shoes.

FAMILY GUY Spin-Off in the Works - Mar 02, 2008 - 01:45pm
scytheofluna I wasn't targeting you specifically, it's just something I've noticed recently. While I do see your point about wasting time on discussion boards , I also think the whole point of a discussion (in online forums or live in person) is to exchange ideas and opinions, whether you agree with them or not. I like hearing other peoples thoughts and ideas. I think sometimes we get so focused and closed minded on certain subjects (not just on this board but out there in the real world) that we forget that there are other opinions that are just as valid. Occasionaly my opinion has changed on a subkect because someone has brought up a point I have never thought of. I read an article recently about how the internet isn't bringing people together, like it was once claimed to be, but is really splitting us up into smaller groups. Instead of healthy discussions and debates, forums and chat rooms are becoming places where like minded folks gather to either all like or dislike a particular subject. I'm by no means an expert on this and have done no real research but it is something that I've noticed on various boards. Now these boards are on sites that are quite obviously one sided on certain subject matter (religious, political, etc...) I think it's great that there are websites like this were we can openly discuss subjects and hear differing opinions. Last point, it may be a waste of time to write about how much you dislike a subject, but an argument can be made, with all that is wrong in the world, wars, poverty, child prostitution, death and disease, that this site and the subject matter contained is a waste of time. We should be devoting all our energies to solving these problems and helping people rather then chatting about cartoons and robot movies. Is it's a waste of time, scytheoflune, then why are you even looking at this site? If you're like me, Merin, and others, then you like the subject matter and like to escape from the realities of the world for a bit. I think I'm done. Thank you for your time

FAMILY GUY Spin-Off in the Works - Feb 29, 2008 - 02:55pm
I don't have a problem with people saying they don't like a show or movie on these forums. As long as you do it in a semi intelligent manner and don't resort to "that show F#@!ing sucks, you guys are gay for liking it". What I think is funny, are the people who come on and ask why these people come on the forums and not like the shows. And then go to great lengths to explain why they shouldn't post on forums when they don't something. If every discussion was jsut a bunch of people agreeing with everyone elses opinion, it would get pretty tiresome. And am I the only one that caught the FEMALE Prison Break. I didn't like the original, but hot chicks behind bars? It's got HBO written all over it. I am so there...

Azaria's Sinister Plans in MUSEUM 2 - Feb 26, 2008 - 09:49am
It's an odd thing Ben Stiller has going. He plays the same character in all his films, yet some do really well, and others just bomb. I wonder if people are slowly learning that it's not the actor that makes the movie, it's the story. Maybe the studio will learn this and not pay 40 million for an actor and focus on a decent story. I like Night at the Museum and will go see this one.

Paramount Confirms CLOVERFIELD 2 - Jan 31, 2008 - 11:13am
I loved the film. And what I think worked so well was the perspective we got from the regular citizens witnessing the events. I also liked that you only got little bits of info, never the whole story. I'm a little on the fense with a sequel though. If they go for the same shaky cam, we found MORE footage shot by regular people, it will get repetitive. My idea. Have the story focus on the military aspect, but not the higher ranking, focus on the privates and coporals, the working soldiers who are in the thick of the action. How do they react when they're asked to take on a 50 foot lizard. Don't tell them where it's from, or what it is, just go and kill it. How does a solider react when he's just told to do something and not given a reason. Could turn into a film like Aliens if handled correctly. (I'm accepting offers from the studios now for this idea. Phone lines are open)

Brett Ratner Directing THE WOLFMAN? - Jan 31, 2008 - 08:01am
Ratner seems to be the go to guy for very safe, generic movies. he doesn't take any chances or try anything new. Very vanilla. If he did this, it might be reasonably successful with the general public, but would be forgoten within a couple years.

Destro Has been Cast?? - Jan 30, 2008 - 12:36pm
I remember watching Batam Begins in the theater and thinking "That Jumpy Guy nailed the character. Totally believable. He would make a great Destro if they ever made a GIJOE movie." Only someone who is able to pull off a complex character like Jumpy Guy would be able to play Destro. Best casting news yet IMHO.

NIGHTMARE Series Getting Remade.. - Jan 29, 2008 - 08:17pm
I understand their motivation to make more money by going back to the well and bleeding it dry, filling it up with new blood, then running it dry again. But when we occasionally see a new concept come out and it does well, I'm thinking Saw and Hostel, why don't they clue in and keep trying new ideas. It seems like we get more sequels and remakes then original ideas. Side question: Other then Saw and Hostel, have there been any other original horror movies in the last ten years that have made an impact?

Emmy Rossum Talks DRAGONBALL - Jan 26, 2008 - 09:34am
She looked at me and started laughing... then turned away and pretended she had a phone call.

Producer and Star Talk New KNIGHT RIDER - Jan 26, 2008 - 09:30am
Mercurial The series you are thinking about was called "Viper". I'm sure it was just a coincidence that the title and the car were the same. And according to IMDB, filmed in Calgary and lasted 4 seasons. Useless trivia to talk about over dinner tonight. I liked Knight Rider when I was a kid so I'll give this a shot.

TOY STORY Trilogy Goes 3-D - Jan 25, 2008 - 02:11pm
I think this is a smart move on their part. By re releasing the films in theaters, they can get the young kids who weren't around ten years ago when they first came out, excited about the films. Now if I remember correctly, Disney was originally making their own sequel without Pixar (or Tom Hanks and Tim Allen) because Pixar had ended their partnership (or contract expired, can't remember the circumstances). Once Pixar and Disney became freinds again, the Disney sequel was scrapped and Pixar started from scratch on Toy Story III. With Hanks and Allen I think, but again, not 100% sure. Does this sound right?

HD STAR TREK Teaser Online - Jan 21, 2008 - 02:42pm
Eric Bana and Wynona Ryder? Did I miss an update somewhere? I don't want to start an anti Wynona thread here, just curious.

Family Guy: Blue Harvest - Jan 21, 2008 - 01:47pm
I thought this was one of the weaker FG episodes I've seen. Alot of filler in between the few funny gags. Like the opening scene, when the star destroyer flies overhead, did it really need to be an exact remake of the original scene? There were a few scenes where I thought they were just re making the original film but in cartoon form. I got the impression that the writers just wanted to see if they could recreate the movie and not spoof it. I agree Robot Chicken did a much better job.

Norton Exits STATE OF PLAY - Dec 18, 2007 - 09:21pm
Russel Crowe replacing Brad Pitt? I would say that's an equal trade. Ben Affleck replacing Edward Norton? I would call that a step down.

BOURNE ULTIMATUM Sells $95 Million in DVDs - Dec 18, 2007 - 08:33am
After sales like this, plus the theatrical gross it's safe to assume that there will be another film in a couple years. The only question is how much they'll have to pay Damon.

Mitra Deals With Loss in BOY IN THE BOX - Dec 18, 2007 - 08:27am
Ever since I heard Corey Hart sing this song, I've been hoping for a movie. My Christmas dreams have been answered.

Guttenberg Lands in THE WELL - Nov 19, 2007 - 12:26pm
Does this remind anyone else of the Simpsons episode were Bart gets trapped down a well?

HITMAN Director Executed by Fox? - Oct 12, 2007 - 08:27pm
Super Marios Brothers was AWESOME!!! Sorry, I can't even say that with a straight face. I thought FINAL FANTASY was pretty good, albeit a fairly generic Scifi Film. I never played the game so I don't know how accurate it was. With all the Video Game adaptations that have failed, why do the studios keep insisting on adapting them? Resident Evil is really the only moderately succesful film that I can think of. The only GAME adaptation that was GREAT, now that I ponder a bit, was CLUE the movie. Absolutely hillarious.

Scott Farrar Talks TRANSFORMERS 2 - Oct 01, 2007 - 10:35pm
Layers to the story and characters? Don't get me wrong... I loved the movie. I was literally shaking with excitement when they started transforming on screen. But it was all about the giant robots beating the begezuz out of eachother and transforming into cool cars. In terms of plot and character... kinda lame. However, I cannot wait for the sequel. Gonna be AWESOME!!!!

Banderas and Freeman Stealing THE CODE - Oct 01, 2007 - 10:28pm
Wow, Morgan Freeman as Nelson Mandela. I can't imagine anyone else playing the part of such an influential and important figure. And I'm sure Eastwood would give it the respect it deserves. (sniff sniff sniff) if this is happening, I smell Oscars already.

ERAGON trailer is online - Sep 15, 2006 - 08:44am
If memory serves me corectly, the PG-13 rating came about because of Indiana jones and the Temple of Doom. I think Speilberg fought for the rating. Are the books for this any good? They looked to me to be more kid oriented. Trailer looks good, will probably see it cause dragons are so cool. They're haven't been alot of good dragon movies.

Zak Penn begins on screenplay for THE AVENGERS - Sep 14, 2006 - 11:05am
New to the forum. My first official post. I believe Dax is refering to the Hulk. They annouced a "re imagining" a month or so ago. I read into that a remake. I'm not 100% sure tho. I just need to say that the message board on this site is SOOOOO much more interesting and, for the most part, intelligent in their discussions. Unlike other "COOL" message boards that are just abunch of yahoos hating everything they see and swearing every third word. Thumbs up to all posters here. Oh and I agree that they should make the solo movies first and lock the actors into a contract so they can make avengers for cheap. I'm done....
