I'm just surprised that another CGI animation company is taking a stab at yet another movie featuring insects, especially after the poor box office performance of The Ant Bully (I know, it will make it up on DVD sales, but I'm sure the studio would have liked a bigger chunk at the box office). The fantasy angle on this story sounds interesting. This will also be the first of the CGI bug movies to feature spiders as the bad guys - which seems odd that it's taken them so long to have spider villains, since they would be such a natural fit in any bug movie. So far we've had Antz (ants vs. ants), A Bug's Life (ants & allies vs. grasshoppers), and The Ant Bully (ants & allies vs. exterminator). Speaking of which, I thought it was interesting that we had two CGI movies this summer (The Ant Bully & Over the Hedge) which used exterminators as the Big Bad. When I was watching the final battle in The Ant Bully, I immediately had the sense that I had seen this in the not-too-distant past.

I agree this does sound familiar... but the elven magic and leafmen could be interesting... I'll wait to hear more.

Will this be serious or funny? I never heard of the book.

It'd be hard to take it too seriously, but… ;)
