Just a few days after Hasbro producer Brian Goldner revealed that a script has been turned in for Paramount Pictures' G.I. Joe 2, Heat Vision has confirmed that director Jon Chu has been set at the helm. These past few weeks, Chu (Step Up 2 the Streets, Step Up 3D) has been one of the top contenders to grab the director's chair against fellow director F. Gary Gray, who was also in the running. Chu will direct the production, based on a screenplay by Zombieland writing team Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick.

With a director now on board the follow-up to Stephen Sommer's 2009 comic film, one of the questions is which stars will be returning to reprise their roles. While Channing Tatum is likely coming back as Duke, the trade casts doubts as to whether Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Sienna Millar will return to play Cobra Commander and Baroness.

Yawn. I so disliked the first one that I find it very hard to get excited about a sequel.  Lose the Ironman suits and love triangle, then maybe we can talk.

So does this mean that the Joes and Cobra are going to have a dance-off to decide who wins a battle?

Am I the only one who thought GIJoe was a steaming pile of excrement... it was a horrible horrible film, to be honest I'm not even sure I can remember what the hell was going on, my brain is blocking it out.

Recast the whole thing, and fire the new director and get someone who knows what the fuck they are doing, Step Up, SEEEERIOUSLY?

BunyonSnipe 2/27/2011 3:40:53 PM

Yeah madmaniac, it was a mess from start to end, I lost interest when Cover Girl was killed without a second thought...

I like Vosloo, but that wasn't Zartan...

I like Miller but that was not Baroness, I could say that for almost everyone, except Duke. And yes the love triangle was all wrong, it should have been Duke and Snake Eyes, as in the comics Scarlet loved Snake Eyes and in the cartoons it was Duke...

After Beaver and the Step Up films at least we know we're in for a great sequel. Yes more over top cheesy action, just what a cartoon based on toys deserve lol. Plus by all acounts the 3D in the Step Up and Beaver films was well done so we should have some nice 3D action, GO TATUM :)

madmanic, I thought GI Joe was a horrendous waste of 90 minutes of my life.  I want to believe that GI Joe 2 could be better given new writers and a new director, but I'm trying to picture the trailers promoting the film using text like "FROM THE DIRECTOR OF STEP UP 2 AND STEP UP 3D".  That idea doesn't sit well with me at all. to say the least.  So much for the idea that a sequel could fix the mistakes from the first film.

Why can't they just start fresh, new cast and no b.s. that Cobra Commander and Baroness are brother and sister, Duke and Baroness were a couple. Just restart the whole franchise or end it now. Please no more pissing on my childhood. For god sake why did they hire jack ass's involved with crappy dance movies?

Wiseguy 2/27/2011 5:42:18 PM

Start fresh? and let Tatum's stellar performance in the first go to waste not to mention Wayan's, that's sacrilege

violator14 2/27/2011 6:03:37 PM

OH great! The step-up director?? seriously???

Dont get me started on this crap again.
