CHUCKY Getting a Remake?

The last time we saw Chucky, he was having "father" issues with his psychotic son in 2004's SEED OF CHUCKY. So, where do we go from here? Backwards judging by what the original CHILD'S PLAY producer David Kirschner had to say to Shock Til You Drop. The man behind the original film nearly 20 years ago is thinking about a remake of Chucky's origin. Here's what he said...

We're discussing it with Don Mancini, who has written all of them with us from the beginning," Kirschner told us. "The next one we're going to do is we're going back and remaking the first one and even pushing it further and making a very terrifying version of the first one, which is pretty scary as it is."

"We haven't come up with anybody yet," he replied when asked whether they were looking at any of today's cutting-edge horror directors. "We haven't really discussed that. We've just been working on stories, so I think that'll be a fun process when we get there."

Question: Why the remake?

"Look at 'Halloween'," he quickly responded. "It's kind of commerce to keep the franchise going, and another reason to go see it. For me, it's exciting, because the first one was really scary and then from there, we kind of… my favorites are 1 and 4. I love 4, it really makes me laugh and I think Jennifer Tilly is so great, but just the idea of going back to where we were the first time around and I think for me, it's almost 30 years later for me as a filmmaker from where I started to now, and the idea of taking some skill that maybe I didn't possess then and putting it towards the next film, I think could be exciting."

They don't know if Brad Dourif will be involved with this remake but they are keeping it as an animatronic doll just like the previous installments. The remake may have more details of the evil soul behind the doll, Charles Lee Ray.

2 through 5 sucked ass, why would remaking the first one (the BEST one) be any better?
If they had a clue as to where to go with the Chucky franchise they wouldnt have screwed it over every chance they had with 5 lousy stinking sequels.
heres an idea... make a legitimate Childs Play part 6, do it scary and redeem yourselves... till then Chucky is just lame and stupid.

FOR F*CKS SAKE...PLEASE STOP! NO MORE REMAKES OF MOVIES THAT WERE MADE WHEN I WAS IN HIGH SCHOOL! DAMMIT, DAMMIT, DAMMIT! THIS IS GETTING OUT OF HAND! SOMEBODY PLEASE DRILL A HOLE IN THE COLLECTIVE MINDS OF HOLLYWOOD AND LET THE STUPIDITY POUR OUT AND DRAIN AWAY! WE GET IT...YOU'RE CREATIVELY BANKRUPT! WE DON'T CARE! ENOUGH IS ENOUGH!

...

Okay...all better now...anyone else care to comment?

I agree, this inundation of remakes is giving me the shits. Halloween blew D-O double G and then they tell me they're gonna "remake" Near Dark. WTF!? Can't any of these shmucks come up with an original idea?

I am so sick of listening to all you little retards complaining because Hollywood wants to make money. Remakes are a profitable business and so long as people go and watch and make money they will continue to do them. So, shut your mouths, don't go see it, and quit crying.

hey Fedup, I agree with you on the retards complaining part, But this time they are right, most of the remakes that came out in the last few years are without substance, and they are, if you think long term, killing the franchise they are supposed to give new life to. I too think that if you want to keep making money, make interesting, scary sequels instead...

I agree 100% with number four. Just don't go see it for f@#$ sake! The complaining is just as old as the remakes. Now although I liked some of the remakes, this one doesn't appeal to me either. Let Chucky die!

I agree with Fedup, too. We can complain all we want. It won't make a difference. All we can do is not go see them. Remakes are unfortunately here to stay.

Clearly people should only voice their opinions on something when they're positive opinions. Rolling my eyes at you people complaining about people complaining about remakes.

trollman • Oct 21, 2007, 10:46am •
OK stop complaining about those complaints about complainers. They have as much right to complain as those who originally complained. Besides they are both right. The recent slew of remakes suck and complaining about them is a waste of time because hollywierd isn't smart enough to ask us what we think.

mellowdoux • Oct 21, 2007, 10:56am •
That does it. I'm absoultely sick and tired of the complainers here, who complain about the complaints of complainers, complaining about the complainers of those who are complaining about remakes.
I'm sick of it.
I think...
