First Joss Whedon launched a new season of Buffy the Vampire Slayer in comic book form. Now Chris Carter, creator of the X-Files, is following suit with his creation. Shock Till You Drop is reporting that IDW will launch the 10th season of the X-Files at their publishing house.

“The entire project will be executive produced by the X-Files creator Chris Carter, who is returning in an active role to help steer his characters back to the forefront of popular culture once again.

The X-Files: Season 10 will be written by Joe Harris, writer of the acclaimed series Great Pacific, with art and colors by theComeback team of artist Michael Walsh and colorist Jordie Bellaire. Issue #1 will feature covers by Dave Johnson, Joe Corroney, and Carlos Valenzuela, along with a classic photo image of Mulder and Scully”.

The opening story arc will be called “Believers” where we will catch up with Mulder and Scully.

The X-Files: Season 10 launches June 19th at IDW.

I am a huge fan of the X files but maybe a good movie this time will be enough.

Why no mention of Smallville: Season 11?  :)

I never really got into X-Files, but more power to 'em.

So will this continue from the series or the last movie?

So stoked for this!

So excited for this!  The X-Files is the greatest show/franchise of all time, and it's wonderful to see it continuing!

It's going to continue from the last movie.  I got a chance to meet the creative team (Joe Harris and Michael Walsh) yesterday at Emerald City Comicon after the IDW panel.

Just let it be dead.

Smallville season 11 is awesome! I've got tons of The X-Files comics ..i'll probably get these too.

I'm excited to hear that they will finally give the fans some closure.  After the lackluster performance of the last film at the box office, this may be all that we get.  They have the entire alien story to wrap up.

Wouldn't Smallville season 11 just be Superman?

I don't know how I feel about this project.  The X-Files mythology became so convoluted and screwed up that I'm not sure it can be saved.  Although, I didn't see the second movie so I don't know what, if anything, it did to help.

@ DougRed4 - I'd even go so far as to say The X-Files is the best sci-fi/horror franchise of all time in ALL FORMATS. First I thought they'd actually decided to pick up the TV-series and continue on to where the 3rd (and final?) movie begins, but this should be interesting as well with Carter executive producing. I highly doubt this comic adaptation will increase the odds of seeing a new X-Files movie anytime soon though, which is really what I was hoping for. I could however think of alot worse to do while waiting for it than read these new stories.
