Fox Walden has launched the official site for CITY OF EMBER.  The film opens on October 10th and stars Bill Murray, Tim Robbins, Saoirse Ronan, Harry Treadaway and Martin Landau.

EMBER centers on the people of the City of Ember who have flourished in an amazing world of glittering lights - underground. Built as a refuge for humanity and powered by a massive generator - this city will only sustain for 200 years. Now Ember is falling into darkness as the generator fails, and the dazzling lights begin to flicker and fade.

Despite growing concern for the future of their beloved city, Ember’s students find themselves confronting the next step in their lives. A rite of passage for all graduates, it is Assignment Day, the day on which the Mayor himself will stand before the graduating students as they choose, by lottery, how they will spend their lives working for their society. Lina, praying with all her might to be a messenger, is appalled to be assigned to the Pipeworks, the vast network of pipes underneath the city. Her classmate, Doon Harrow, who wants more than nothing else to work in the Generator, panics when he pulls the messenger assignment. The Pipeworks isn't the Generator, but it is close enough and Doon offers to swap assignments with Lina. She is thrilled and grateful and eagerly changes jobs. Thus, an unlikely friendship is born, one that, as it blossoms, will change the course of all the lives in Ember.

Lina takes easily to the job of messenger and finds herself zipping all over Ember, delivering important missives to even more important people, including the mayor himself. At home she cares for her aging and forgetful grandmother, and her baby sister Poppy. When an old metal box is discovered in their closet, Lina’s grandmother is overjoyed. Completely sure that the contents of the box are of the utmost importance, she is completely bereft of any memory as to why.

Lina manages to jimmy the lock open, and discovers some cryptic and decrepit papers inside. Unable to piece the papers together, Lina resolves to decipher their meaning and enlists Doon’s help.

As blackouts in the city become more frequent, Lina and Doon realize that the information inside that box could lead to the salvation of their city and their fellow citizens.

CITY OF EMBER is directed by Gil Kenan.  Playtone’s Gary Goetzman and Tom Hanks produced.  The script ws written by Caroline Thompson (EDWARD SCISSORHANDS) and was based on the best-selling novel by Jeanne Duprau.

Though there isn't much to see just yet, other than a count down clock, click here to visit the official site. More is on the way.

Hm. Sounds like it could be interesting. Guessing by the ads that it is based on a book. May have to give it a read.

If you get the book it'll ruin your movie experience. I think I'll just wait, but you're right that it sounds prophetic

On a seperate note, it seems that Jarrod is on vacation but Mania seems to be leaving out some headlines and rumors that deserve some mention
1- Guy Ritchie is J.Silver's choice to direct Sgt.Rock from DC comics.

2-Kick Ass comic is in pre-production already.

3-Cap's shield makes a cameo in IronMan

4-Another site is reporting that Marvel will invest 150 to 300mil on Thor and it will be the most "fantastic" Marvel adaptation to date and Pitt is the name being tossed around for the role.

5-"Hancock" is doing reshoots in NY. Usually bad news this late in the game. The film has failed to get a pg13 rating two times and isn't testing well so far.

6-Here is a link for some semi-nude shots of Megan Fox...http://www.wwtdd.com/post.phtml?pk=6142

7-Transformers 2 is rumored to be heading for the 3D treatment

8-Point Break is gettingb a sequel, but no word if Keanu will be part of it.

9-The one that's eating at me the most, this is just a rumor, but some sites are saying that Matt McConaughey is being considered for Captain America

Sounds like a serious role for Murray. Interested.
WiseGuy, was the shield in this movie? Where cause I completley missed it. Also Why not McConaughey? He is obviously fit enough and can do the look. He does some bad movies, but he can act. Time to Kill still being his best to date, but I liked his acting in Marshall and Frailty.

Thriller, I posted a still from the film. You can find it on "Maniac' latest updates" on the right side of the home page.
I just don't think he can do Cap justice and his little southern drawl won't help. Agree that he was good on some roles. Maybe my hopes for Cap are too high. Just not a big fan of this guy. It might be from his team-ups with Kate Hudson, who I despise.

A 200 years old underground city powered by a big generator about to fail... that's the Matrix's Zion if the machines had never found it.
