Author Tom Clancy must be a happy fella today because Paramount Pictures has ponied up more dough for another of his Jack Ryan novels. The screen rights for Clancy's
RED RABBIT, set during the early days of Ryan's CIA career, have been purchased by the studio. Producing will be former superagent to the stars Michael Ovitz and his business partner Mark Canton. Oscar-nominated screenwriter Robert Rodat (
SAVING PRIVATE RYAN) has been tapped to adapt Clancy's tome to the silver screen for a cool $2 million dollar paycheck.
Paramount wants Ben Affleck to reprise the role of Jack Ryan in
RED RABBIT; after all, his debut in the character's shoes in
THE SUM OF ALL FEARS did solid box office. Set during the Cold War, the novel is about Ryan helping a Russian defector supply vital information indicating the Soviet Union is about to assassinate the Pope.
