Clark Gregg for Shield Series

It was always in the works

You probably had the debate whether or not Agent Coulson was truly dead this past summer. Would that really be all for the S.H.I.E.L.D. Agent that stood toe to toe against a Norse God? At one point we even heard a rumor that Agent Coulson would resurface again as the Vision in the next Avengers movie. That rumor was probably just a lot of fanboy speculation.

Last weekend at the New York Comic Con, Joss Whedon announced (via a recorded message) that Agent Coulson (played by Clark Gregg) would in deed make an appearance in the new S.H.I.E.L.D. TV Series.

Whedon had this to say:

"We all love Clark Gregg, there's no doubt about that," Joss announced in a taped message played for fans at New York Comic-Con on Saturday. "From before we made 'The Avengers,' we discussed whether there was a way for him to be a part of the Marvel Universe, perhaps a part of a TV show even after his death."

Marvel uber producer Kevin Feige then backed up Whedon will this remark:

"There was never going to be a 'S.H.I.E.L.D.' show without Agent Phil Coulson!"

So would this be an appearance? A flashback? Perhaps his memory being transported into a robotic body (I really liked that one, can’t you tell)?

Whedon that said:

"He's headlining the S.H.I.E.L.D. show and always was”.

The only question that remains now is Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson). Will he make an appearance? With production of the pilot already under way, we’ll know soon enough.

Great!  No body...then they probably aren't even dead.  Even if they are shot in the head, cough, Captain America.

I'm glad Joss Whedon is in charge of the show.  The man knows all about bringing characters back after death that make some manner of sense in the universe they are set in, and he's already done it in the Marvel Universe with the return of Colossus in the pages of Astonishing X-Men.

Bring on Vision...... hopefully. He's got the look and the voice for A.I. And all that take of him not wanted to be an A.I. character could have just been cover.

We already know that Fury was willing to manipulate the team with whatever lies were necessary to get them to work together.  He wouldn't hesitate to say that Coleson was dead, even if he wasn't.  Phil certainly wasn't doing too well either, of course.  He had just been stabbed in the back, after all.  Keeping his long recovery a secret wouldn't be too difficult.  It's far less of a stretch than most comicbook returns from the dead.

Once Coleson recovers, I expect he'll be charged with heading up a new covert team.  One whose security clearance level is far above the rest of SHIELD.  It's the sort of formula Hollywood loves, as it's tried and true.  Six Million Dollar Man, Knight Rider, Alias, etc.  Being set in the Marvel Movie Universe will give the show that extra something to set it apart from it's predecessors to be something new.

Whedon isn't doing Quartermaine, Jimmy Woo or any of that bunch won't be the primary agents it'll be all

original characters to copliment the fact that Coulson isn't from the "paged" marvel universe either... idgaf as

long as they incorporate some Marvel heroes who will never see the time of day on the big screen like Luke

Cage & Iron Fist , Moon Knight, Punisher (Sort Of) ,Dare Devil (Sort Of), Ms. Marvel (Maybe Lofty), Sentry

(Also Lofty), Mockingbird, Doctor Strange (Let's be honest never gonna happen), and Jessica Jones

(Definately gonna happen)

o yeah n i forgot DeadPool... btw did anybody else see the Miz as DeadPool at ComicCon, im convinced he should play Dead Pool in a movie now

Deadpool is part of the X-Men licensing package currently held by Fox.  SHIELD can't use anything from X-Men, Fantastic Four, Ghost Rider or Spider-Man.  Daredevil is now available, however.  The license for him expired last week and reverted back to Marvel/Disney.

im hearing THE HOFF as nick fury.

He either died and this Coulson will be a LMD like the ones Fury uses in the comics or simply Fury just manipulated the situation in the Avengers for obvious reasons. Both work for me
