First photo of Tom Welling in a costume-like get up for 'Smallville'. PLUS: 'G.I.Joe' box office. Pixar sizing up 'Ant-Man'? Fox talks 'Jonah Hex'. More! Laboring over a charcoal grill with a cold one in hand, it's your Comics2Film 9.9.7!

G.I. JOE Box Office

'G.I.Joe' dropped three spots at the box office this week, landing at #8, according to Mania's box office report. In its fifth week of release, the comic/toy/toon film was pushed down by two new openers 'All About Steve' and 'Gamer', and lost ground to the appealing chick flick 'Julie & Julia' (also in its fifth week).

'Joe' took in over $5 million bringing its domestic take up to nearly $140 million.

The movie has done over $271 million worldwide, bumping it up to the #13 film of 2009, trailing far behind 'Fast and Furious'.

Pixar Sizing up ANT-MAN?

In their coverage of the Disney/Marvel deal, Entertainment Weekly dropped a cryptic bit of news which, if accurate, could be cause for excitement:

"Pixar is said to already be eyeballing an 'Ant-Man' movie."

As regular readers know, Marvel has been developing 'Ant-Man' for many years and, at one point, it was seen as part of the run-up to the 'Avengers' mega-film.

Director Edgar Wright ('Shaun of the Dead', 'Scott Pilgrim vs the World') has been developing the feature for Marvel and has written a script. As recently as last July he said he aims to return to work on the screenplay after 'Scott Pilgrim' is done.

EW offers no details beyond the above statement, so it's unclear how strong the interest is on Pixar's part, or whether or not Marvel is abandoning Wright's take in order to bounce to project to their new hit-making partners at Disney.

Stay tuned...

Thanks to CaptainSigma for the submission.

Clark Suits Up for SMALLVILLE

In the season 9 opener of 'Smallville', Clark gets a superhero suit. It's the moment fans have been waiting for, right? Well, not quite.

KryptonSite has posted over a dozen images from "Savior", the new season's premiere episode, including your first look at Clark in a costume-ish get up with the S shield and a cloak of sorts. OK, he looks more like the Vampire Lestat than Superman, but maybe this is the start of a progression.

The episode debuts Friday, September 25th. Here's how The CW describes it:

Clark (Tom Welling) tells Jor-El he¹s ready to start his training, but Jor-El sends him back to Metropolis to cut ties with Lois before he can begin. Chloe (Allison Mack) is shocked when Lois (Erica Durance) suddenly reappears after having been missing for weeks, but Lois has no recollection of vanishing into thin air with the Legion ring.

While investigating a monorail crash, Lois meets John Corben (guest star Brian Austin Green), a new reporter at The Daily Planet, with a negative attitude toward the Red-Blue Blur. Chloe begs Clark to use the Legion ring to go back in time to save Jimmy, but he refuses, driving a wedge into their friendship. Meanwhile, Oliver (Justin Hartley) continues down a dark road, and Zod (Callum Blue) arrives at the Luthor mansion.

The episode was written by Brian Peterson and Kelly Souders and was directed by Kevin Fair.

New LUCKY LUKE Teaser Trailer

Here's a second trailer for the French-language comic book adaptation, 'Lucky Luke'. This one introduces Sylvie Testud as Calamity Jane.

Thanks to AntoBlueberry for the submission.

Megan Fox Promises "Super-Violent" JONAH HEX

Actress Megan Fox chatted with MTV Splash Page about her new movie 'Jonah Hex'. She says the film, "manages to be super-violent while still having a PG-13 rating."

She also praised the acting in the movie citing stars Josh Brolin, John Malkovich and Michael Fassbender as bringing their brilliant talents to the comic-based horror/western. Check out her interview...

Clark Kent / Superman looks like an extra from Zoolander, or maybe he's about to face his latest villain - the catwalk.

I guess the Ant-Man news is good, they could really make that microscopic world come to life with the Pixar CGI.  Although I would still be fine with a live action flick and I don't know if having a Pixar Ant-Man would affect the link / progression to the Avengers.

Since I already dub Smallville to be "Dawson's Creek" with superheroes, I'll only laugh at Clark's new "costume".

FerretJohn 9/7/2009 1:14:46 PM

Less and Less interested in Smallville.  It's lasted so far two years longer than it should have and he's no longer actually in Smallville anymore.  And now they decided to radically remake the Suit?  No thanks!

redhairs99 9/7/2009 2:06:26 PM

I still like Smallville even though it verses sharply from the mythos.  I think it's more of a "I've stuck it out this long, so let's see how they end it" kind of thing, but they do still have some really cool episodes.  Definitely looking forward to another Geoff Johns episode this season with the JSA coming out of retirement to teach the fledgling JLA a few things.

Still, I thought Clark looks more like Neo then anything else that's been mentioned so far.

The only time Megan Fox should be allowed to open her mouth is to shove someone's johnson in it.

hanso 9/7/2009 3:06:44 PM

Clark looks like he's about to go shoot out a high school.

TKay42one 9/7/2009 3:16:50 PM

Yeah, I don't really care about Smallville much anymore either.  The last few seasons haven't been great, and even had an hour long Stride gum commercial...WOW.  It's still on my DVR though...what started out as true fandom has mutated into dark fascination...sort of like the train wreck scenario...you just can't look away.

Pixar doing Ant Man?  I love Ant Man and I love Pixar, but if these two meet, then it's the start of what I was afraid would happen if Disney got total control of Marvel.  I want the live action movie I was promised, dammit!

BunyonSnipe 9/7/2009 3:29:36 PM

hanso's right, as ever...

First victim is zac efron in all singing all dying bloodfest!

jfdavis 9/7/2009 3:35:52 PM

Having Pixar involved doesn't necessarilly mean animated as isn't that eartquake movie going to be live action? Still CGI experts working on the "shrunken scenes" may inded be cool.  I hope it isn't a strict hybrid though...

I like Clark's suit. It's been said before but it does look a lot like Superman's post-death costume which adds a hint of continuity which is amazing for this show...

Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going to think about GorillaPunch's comment some more...
