In an exclusive interview with CINESCAPE at Comic-Con International, in San Diego, CA, SMALLVILLE's executive producers, Miles Miller and Al Gough put to rest continued speculation.
"We were brought [to] the project by (producer) Laura Zisken and (director) Sam Raimi back before the first movie came out," explains Gough. "Then, after the first movie came out, David Koepp approached the studio and said he had an idea for the sequel that he wanted to write himself exclusively. The studio felt that since he had written the first film they were going to let him do that and asked us to basically step aside for a period of six weeks. He [has] turned his script in on the project [and] we will use bits and pieces and ideas from his script.
"We've been sitting down with Sam, Laura, and Avi Arad (SPIDERMAN's executive producer) and working out basically what the script will be. We're really happy to be on the project and so excited to be doing it."
SPIDERMAN 2 will begin filming in January, 2003.
