British journalist Jon Ronson's book Men Who Stare at Goats has been picked up by Winchester, BBC Films and Mandate Pictures with George Clooney set to star. The book is a mixture of paranormal and military, with it being based on the U.S. Army's First Earth Battalion, a unit that was to use paranormal powers. Clooney's Smoke House partner Grant Heslov will direct the feature film.
If you're curious what the title refers to, it's based on the notion that one can kill a goat by staring at it.
Script was penned by Brit Peter Straughan ("How to Lose Friends and Alienate People"). The project has been around for some time, but international buyers only just received the script this week as the Cannes fest and market got started. Script topped the 2007 Brit List of best unproduced screenplays.
George Clooney's next film to hit theaters is Joel and Ethan Coen's Burn After Reading, a dark-spy comedy which stars the actor, two-time Academy Award nominee John Malkovich, Academy Award winner Frances McDormand, Academy Award nominee Brad Pitt, and Academy Award winner Tilda Swinton. That one hits theaters Friday, Sept 12.

The movie the story is about sounds equally intriuging(?...doesn't look spelt right). I wonder if it's going to be futuristic, set in space, or what? First Earth Battalion implies that there's going to be another Earth, no? We'll see.
